This is a move you make when you are looking for the final piece in the puzzle.

We are not there yet.

Let's actually make the playoffs in a real season before we pay premiums on sandpaper.

This has all types of bad written all over it. Especially with future UFAs that know Drury is loose.

Yeah Tampa's players really took Yzerman to the cleaners after he overpaid for the likes of Valterri Fillpula, Matt Carle and Ryan Callahan.

This is not a good contract, but jesus calm the hysterics.

We're not blaming Goodrow, we're blaming Drury. He knew he had this albatross contract in Kreider and went ahead and signed another one
The funny thing is that people on here still think Zibby is going to sign for 8 a year next season cause he loves NY so much.
Perhaps the biggest reason I want them to get Eichel is because I know in my heart that they are both going to make around 10 mill a year. I’d rather pay Eichel from 25-30 with room to improve even with the neck question, rather then pay Zibbys 30-35/36 with a concussion history. This is going to be Zibanejad s retirement deal, his agent is going to tell him to go where he gets paid. We’re going to be lucky if he takes 9.5-9.75 a yr as a hometown discount

Buch is the one of the best two way players in the league. Not comparable

You’re right, they are not comparable. Buch will probably cost nearly double, be a bigger issue to the cap, and doesn’t provide the elements that are required to win in the playoffs that Goodrow does.

Buch, for as good of a two way player he is, will be redundant when Laf and Kakko (a great two-way player himself) develop.

The AAV is a bad contract.

The term makes it a putrid contract.

And this boots Buch out of NY.

Its just brutal asset management. Especially after losing Fast for a much smaller contract last year.

They.Are.NOT.Related. Not even a little bit. I don't know why Buch being on the outs is a shock to so many people. They've dangled him for the last few years.

And why are we going to pin the "sins" of Drury's predecessor on him?

If Buch is one of the best 2 way forwards on the league, wouldn't he at least get some Selke votes? Based off Hockey Reference which has it even if they got 1 vote it doesn't look like he ever has.

Buch was gone even before Goodrow's rights were traded for. They are going to reallocate what his cap hit would be long term to another position, likely a center.

Having Kakko and Kravtsov. Boot Buch out.
Goodrow will likely be 3C , 3 W
None of the 3 above are ideal for 3rd line duty. The kids are going to need minutes and at the moment there’s a lot of cash invested in LW. That’s why Buch is likely gone. That, and he’ll bring back a solid pick/prospect

Drury isn't exactly clean of that. He was in the room and had a voice in it.

And they are related in terms of money and position.

Money coming off the books from Buch is being reinvested into Goodrow.

Buch's RW spot will be replaced by Goodrow.

And as good as Goodrow is at his game, Buch shits on him.

"Will cost nearly double": Yeah, because he's actually effective in the offensive zone besides forechecking
"Be a bigger issue to the cap": Bigger contract =/= bigger issue
"Doesn't provide the elements...": Like what? Grit? Sandpaper? He was regularly the first Ranger to respond whenever a scrum formed. He showed arguably the most consistent engagement level of any forward on the team.

And that is fine with me.

It's still garbage asset management and a brutal contract.

Like I don’t understand how this is so hard to comprehend for some people. Management said a long time ago that they wanted to build a heavy team that was hard to play against.

Right now this team is soft as baby poop and is very one dimensional. It’s clear in the playoffs you need to have BOTH skill and grit to win games.

Unfortunately to change the identity of the team that requires some casualties. Some will hurt more (Buch) then others (Stromboli) but are a necessity to make this team more well rounded. Goodrow helps with that. Would we have liked to to be on a cheap contract, of course!

Look at some of the pieces the Rangers have to surround their skill players (Panarin and Zib).

Goodrow, Kreider, Lindgren, Trouba, Schneider, Laf (when he grows his man body), hell even Rooney. They are far from done but if those islander games at the end of the year showed anything it’s that the Rangers, as currently constituted, cannot play a brand of hockey that will get them far in the playoffs.

Do you know what his stance was on Fast? Because you're running on an assumption that he didn't want to bring him back. For all we know, he wanted to keep him.

Sounds like they want to play Goodrow at C, not wing. BTW's, Goodrow played LW, not RW, with Tampa.

Buch will be replaced most likely by one Kakko or Kravtsov, not Goodrow - Which is what 70% of his place has been clamoring for anyway. Those are the guys we NEED to become players for us. They aren't going to do it getting Quinn-minutes.

As far as the Goodrow contract being an overpay, I'm right there with you. Tying Buch into the equation is just stretching the truth out so you can complain about it more. You don't need to do that, the contract is reason enough.

Ok and he also had the most moveable contract capable of bringing back a decent return.

I said before the trade deadline that I wanted Kreider traded. I would have loved to keep Buch but unfortunately he has the most value of the “big” cap hits that we can move right now.

Management said a long time ago that they wanted to build a heavy team that was hard to play against.

They all say that, Quinn said that in 2018, Gallant said it, AV said it etc. This move is a knee jerk reaction to Tom Wilson, full stop. Whether or not it's right we will see but this has Dolan/Slats fingerprints all over it.

Lots of that stuff is based on reputation. He had the lowest GA on the PK of any forward in the league this season, second lowest of any player (only after Hedman). He is near the very top of the league in many defensive & penalty killing analytics.
