I am simply explaining to you how it works since you seem to be having trouble with it.

I don't have any trouble with it and I understand that nothing is absolute in term of players future AAV and term. I don't sleep with a calculator under my pillow worried about what may happen 4 years down the road like you apparently do.

the two are not interrelated.

If they want both, they can have both.

And play our newly minted Goodrow on the 4th line?

Buch and Kakko will play ahead of him, and it's a total waste to have Krav buried on the 4th line.

And the cryptic quote by Drury is enough for me. Buch is a goner.

I could see Buch gone but have a funny feeling Strome isn’t. Don’t see a lot of takers especially if we can’t fill that center spot this coming season if he’s gone. Rangers wanna make the playoffs

I could see them working a deal for a Larkin or Dvorak this summer.

Why are you mad at me for laying out what the deal is?

Buch is a goner regardless of what happened with Goodrow IMO. He’s been on the trade block each of the last 2 years (different gm yes, but still) and it was obvious reading between the lines that he and Strome were the most likely to be traded this summer.

plus it sounds like they want goodrow down the middle, not at wing.

kreider is absolutely not an overpay. The term might be long, but he’s actually about 1m underpay or so. the issue is that he’s now on the third and blocked by laf and Panarin, but he absolutely took a cut to stay here.
Which is why you look at these contracts in the team context as well. 6.5 million for a 3rd liner IS overpay. No way around that.

I don't think he's going to play on the 4th line. I expect Goodrow to play the exact same role that Fast/Blackwell played on Panarin's line and that he'll be around 15g 40pt spark plug. Playing with Panarin, he could be more. So far he paces for 30 points a year, purely at 5v5 and with 15 minutes a night on a shutdown line. Playing with Panarin 16+ minutes a night is a different story. Panarin is one of the best even strength point producers in the world and loves to have a guy like Fast/Goodrow on his off wing. If Goodrow's even a 40 point guy who takes the important draws and PKs, 3.6M won't be the end of the world. If he plays 12 minutes a night on the 4th line, it's a dumb signing.

If still look into Coleman btw. We’re slow as balls and he could be a good fit with Panarin.
I’m guessing he would want same or more money than Goodrow. And if Buch is gone for another player with some salary and term we probably shouldn’t hand out any more big ufa deals so quickly

this is the wrong way to look at it.

Kreider will still be top 6 in TOI at the end of the day. He won’t come off of pp1 as there’s no reason for him to.

I'm not knocking the player.

I'm ripping the asset management aspect of it.

No one can defend the term (6 years for sandpaper), but at 3.6 AAV, it only makes sense if he's the 3C.

But your argument about being with Panarin.... We had the perfect player for that, and wouldn't give him a 3rd year in the contract in Fast.

That part makes zero sense.

1. Get Coleman on the same contract
2. Get Gourde from Seattle at 50%. The savings on Gourde would make up for the slight overpay for Goodrow and Coleman.
3. Win Cup?

Im not mad at all. I disagree with your doom and gloom scenarios.

It's not a scenario, nor is it doom and gloom. It is where they currently are at under the salary cap (assuming this deal is 3.6M) and what players will either need extensions of replaced over the next 3 years.

There is nothing to take exception with, besides, I do not think this was a good idea.

Different GM, president, coach, etc.

Also, maybe lesson learned the hard way. Panarin wants to play with that type of player.

It was reported there's a lot of interest in Strome, which I understand as he is not a bad player just not ideal for us at this point.

Maybe he does, but it still doesn't take the smell (term) off of this proposed deal.

Signing grit to that type of deal is the equivalent of giving a 7th inning setup man a 6 year deal.
