Really like Pacquette in addition to Goodrow.

Also, the Rangers personal cap will be going up every year until the actual cap goes up. In a weird, upside down, world the Rangers cap situation is kind of slick. The Rangers get an extra 2 million to use next year and the year after. That might help big time.

6/3.6 AAV????

Ugh....send that shit right back to the chef.

6 years on Goodrow is like giving a 6 year contract to a freaking setup man in baseball.

Prospects end up ending their entry levels and needing more cap space allocated to them. Like Lindgren last year took up 925K, now he will take up 3M.

Shesterkin soon will happen.

Chytil too, if kept, yet probably not triple his last deal, yet might.

Then keep repeating that with Fox, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Miller, etc. And remember if you instead trade them or delete them, you are not saving much cap space as replacing Lindgren with Bitetto is not really a viable option.

And again, you don't think Drury has thought of this? There are options and bridge deals and lets not act like every one of those players are in line for 8/8 types of deals. Only 1 is right now. We have no idea what other moves may happen to send money the other way and balance the roster. I want a winning team and in today's NHL winning teams all have cap issues. I don't bring a calculator to bed worrying about what the roster will look like in 3-4 years. Thats Drury's job.

Wouldn’t be surprised honestly if we see the Rangers sign Coleman (if he wants to come here) and trade for a partially retained Gourde from Seattle. Remake the TB 3rd line.

if that happens....do you really think signing barclay for maybe 600k over what expected is going to stop us from doing so?
It's not just Goodrow. It's becoming an issue... Trouba 2M, Kreider 1M Goodrow 1M etc.. it begins to add up quickly

We can't overpay on every contract.

We're becoming the anti-Lightning.
We have taxes out the ass, high cost of living and we're over paying on contracts.
Tampa has no state tax, low cost of living and are getting bargains.

In reality, yes 3.6M is overpaying for Goodrow but we also got him basically for nothing. Further, anytime you dip in the UFA market you’re going to spend more, it’s just a fact. They paid market value for an asset that they got nearly for free.

We got Goodrow at the expense of not keeping Buch.

Goodrow is a good player, but those type of players you find on the cheap. Not pay a premium on.

kreider is absolutely not an overpay. The term might be long, but he’s actually about 1m underpay or so. the issue is that he’s now on the third and blocked by laf and Panarin, but he absolutely took a cut to stay here.

Again, if you’re talking about the ability to move on from a player before they’ve played their first game, it’s a bad signing.

Im just saying their are always options because so many seem to be close to the ledge. Im thinking this deal will help a great deal right now. Im not so sure how it's going to look in years 5 and 6 but I frankly don't care.

I am simply explaining to you how it works since you seem to be having trouble with it.

Posted it in the Goodrow thread, I'll post it here:

Before we go freaking out about this contract...

First, I won't be surprised if the final deal comes in a bit under the reported numbers. I don't think anyone really expected Goodrow to sign for less than 3M. If we shave it down even a bit, maybe 3.45M it's less of an eyesore. But either way...

In the playoffs, Goodrow's usage went up to 18:15 per game in the first Cup run and 17:07 in the second. He can be relied upon. He won't put up tons of points, but he can play the minutes and be a catalyst for turnovers as well as keep the puck in the other end, forecheck, keep the opposition on their heels. I think he's going to be playing with Panarin.

Blackwell was 27 years old and had only played 33 NHL games in his life before coming to NY. He got plugged in next to Panarin eventually, and finished the season pacing for 20 goals and 40 points, and that wasn't playing the whole year with Panarin. Numbers could have actually been higher, and he isn't actually that good.

I have a feeling we're going to see Goodrow on the Panarin line and not in the bottom six. He'll still take the important defensive draws, protect leads and PK, but I have a feeling he's going to go in Blackwell's spot on the Panarin line. He's ideal. Puck hound, defensively responsible, non-stop motor. It's exactly what Panarin likes to have on his line. Even if Goodrow's production in that spot isn't any better than Fast/Blackwell, that line is still dangerous and Panarin is still a 90+ point player. That buys time for Kravtsov on the third line to ease in and distributes our depth a bit better. If Goodrow is filling a top six spot for us at 3.6M, that's not bad.

Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Laf - Zib - KK
Kreider - Chytil - Krav
Barron - Rooney - Blackwell

We still want to upgrade on Strome if possible, and if we can add another gritty 4th liner who can defend to take Blackwell's spot and use Blackwell as the extra, that's not too bad. Moreover, we wanted to change the look and identity of the team. If we add another gritty 4th liner and somehow change Strome to someone a bit more defensively reliable, this does that.

I expect Goodrow to play the exact same role that Fast/Blackwell played on Panarin's line and that he'll be around 15g 40pt spark plug. Playing with Panarin, he could be more. So far he paces for 30 points a year, purely at 5v5 and with 15 minutes a night on a shutdown line. If he's a 40 point guy who takes the important draws and PKs, 3.6M won't be the end of the world. If he plays 12 minutes a night on the 4th line, it's a dumb signing.

This is what I've been thinking as well - even before any dollar amounts or term got reported. Blackwell isn't good enough for the top 6 and Kakko and Kravtsov shouldn't be reduced to being Panarin's puck mules. With Goodrow's faceoff ability, you could even conceivably have Chytil at 2 C (if Strome gets traded and someone like Larkin isn't brought in).

I like it. I think both Strome and Buch are gone this year.
I could see Buch gone but have a funny feeling Strome isn’t. Don’t see a lot of takers especially if we can’t fill that center spot this coming season if he’s gone. Rangers wanna make the playoffs
