He’s going to be the 3C I’ll put money on it win means one of or both Strome Chytil are gone
FWIW it's said he is more effective at wing than center but can do well on faceoffs which will be nice if he's on a line with Strome and Panarin or even with Chytil

How about not signing and overpaying him?

Because he's a player that is sorely needed and checks some boxes and just won 2 stanley cups and you gave up a 7th to sign him. Sometimes you have to overpay to get what you need. It's that simple. I want to win the Stanley cup not the cap cup. We are not talking about a 8/8 NMC type of contract here. I'm sure there will be wiggle room and options towards the end of the contract if needed.

by the time laff is up for a 8 or 9 million dollar contract the cap will have risen....right now its 4.4 % of the total cap, hopefully in 3 years the cap will rise and then we are talking about 2 or 3 %

you have to think drury is taking this into account, we have the cap space now
The cap isn't going up substantially anytime soon.

Let's take a step away from the edge here lol.

Hes not a 4th liner. He's a third liner that is good at faceoffs, very good defensively and a good Pker while potting some points who can play at all 3 forward positions.

Others have said this but if there are protections I think that will hurt more than then term/money.

I thought if they went 6 years, he'd be down in the low $3MM range. Guess it's only off by about $300-500K.

Please tell me when kakko or laf will be making 8 mil a season? They are both YEARS away from making that type of money

In Laf's case, I'd guess 2.

Which is why Eichel doesn't make sense unless you're parting with Zibanejad, and even in that case I don't know.

I think the FO is going to hitch their wheel to Zib, for better or worse.

Trouba & Kreiders NMC’s turn into M-NMC’s in 3 seasons. Have to remember that in our cap situation as well. I’m sure the plan is to move one or both at that time.

Panarin 11.6
Trouba 8
Kreider 6.5
Goodrow 3.6
Lindgren 3

32.7M used on 5 players

~48M left to use on these players or their replacements over the next 3 years as all will need to be extended, or traded, or let go

Fox
Zibanejad
Buchnevich
Strome
Shesterkin
Lafreniere
Kakko
Kravtsov
Chytil
Miller

And that would only bring them up to 15 of the ~23 players they'd need to ice a roster.

For the record, I feel like this was a bad idea.

Oh and that does not account for buy-outs or bonus cushion overage.

there is no way they offer laff an 8 mil contract directly after his rookie contract....mackinnon didnt even get anything close to that

If you want to win the stanley cup, you should be vehemently against a signing like this. This will hurt the Rangers ability to win a cup.

Eichel makes sense because you might as well go for it now before the team is f***ed because they overpaid guys like Goodrow and have to move good players because of it.

And you think that Drury doesn't know this? Strome and Buch are goners. The reconstruction of the roster has only just begun.

The cap was much lower when MacK signed.

Hischer got 7 and he can barely stay on the ice.
im fully expecting laf to be better next season, and the year after that but 8 million a season is absurdly high, there are only 49 players in the nhl signed right now that make that money....if hes producing at that type of level at 21 i still dont think he signs for over 8 mil and if he does its going to be for a long term that doesnt hurt us as much when the cap would have gone up in 6 years
