there is no way they offer laff an 8 mil contract directly after his rookie contract....mackinnon didnt even get anything close to that
What a stupid comparison. What if Lafreniere puts up two PPG seasons now, and demands the Mikko Rantanen contract?

And you think that Drury doesn't know this? Strome and Buch are goners. The reconstruction of the roster has only just begun.

Even without Strome and Buch, like they just disappeared and the Rangers did not allocate cap space to any replacements, this is not a good cap position to be in because they both will need to be replaced with contracts/cap hits.

If you want to win the stanley cup, you should be vehemently against a signing like this. This will hurt the Rangers ability to win a cup.

Yes, Im sure getting a quality player who you just got for a 7th, just won 2 stanley cups, diversifies the roster, plays defense, is hard to play against, can play center, plays PK, is going hurt their chances to win a cup. LOL.

That’s my point. They matter….to a point. They definitely matter, but they don’t replace skill at the end of the day.
I would hope we have enough skill especially at the forward spot. Goodrow was never gonna get 2.5 million over 4 years. He's probably worth 3 million over 4-5 years s we probably over paid by 400-600 k and 1-2 years. I don't think this is the end of the world especially since we haven't even seen the guy play a game yet on broadway. I just say him and his line be pain in the asses to play against over the last two years in the PLAYOFFS.

Let’s be realistic here, this entire board as a collective would be laughing our asses off if LouLam and the Isles signed him to this contract.

It is not a good move.

The Islanders have signed a variety of contracts like this over the past several years and have made it to the ECF two years in a row. They very likely win the cup this year if they pull out that game 7 which was effectively a coin flip.

And they’re on a collision course for the same trajectory as the 2015 New York Rangers. I don’t see your point.

We are not in a position to be gambling with cap space on win now players.

Tom Wilson broke a whole organization's brain, moves like this never work out. The best defenses of it compared a team that doesn't make the playoffs unless Gary lets 3/4 of the league in to the President's Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning.

I hope Buchnevich is asking for twice as much as this, because if he's asking for a RNH-type deal this is insane.

And they will be at possibly lower costs using picks propects to get it done. Like I said in my previous post the roster construction is not done.

In my eyes, the answer is a resounding yes. And don’t forget Barron is also in the fold. They played him the entire year in the AHL at center as well

I thought they wanted him on the wing to ease him in? I remember Drury saying that.

Or was that just at the start and he took the middle the rest of the way?

Well it depends on the team signing him. The Isles don't need that type of player, the Rangers do.

if that happens....do you really think signing barclay for maybe 600k over what expected is going to stop us from doing so?
It's not just Barclay Goodrow. It's the combined effect of these contracts. Kreider, Trouba, Goodrow... All you have to do is overpay each with a million or 1.5, and suddenly you are looking at 5 million less than you should have.

After my initial reaction, I'm willing to hold on a bit to see what else Drury has going on to improve the roster. Buchnevich is gone, he basically admitted that. Hopefully that means Strome is as well, and those two are used to acquire us a good top-2 center.

Prospects end up ending their entry levels and needing more cap space allocated to them. Like Lindgren last year took up 925K, now he will take up 3M.

Shesterkin soon will happen.

Chytil too, if kept, yet probably not triple his last deal, yet might.

Then keep repeating that with Fox, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Miller, etc. And remember if you instead trade them or delete them, you are not saving much cap space as replacing Lindgren with Bitetto is not really a viable option.

Posted it in the Goodrow thread, I'll post it here:

Before we go freaking out about this contract...

First, I won't be surprised if the final deal comes in a bit under the reported numbers. I don't think anyone really expected Goodrow to sign for less than 3M. If we shave it down even a bit, maybe 3.45M it's less of an eyesore. But either way...

In the playoffs, Goodrow's usage went up to 18:15 per game in the first Cup run and 17:07 in the second. He can be relied upon. He won't put up tons of points, but he can play the minutes and be a catalyst for turnovers as well as keep the puck in the other end, forecheck, keep the opposition on their heels. I think he's going to be playing with Panarin.

Blackwell was 27 years old and had only played 33 NHL games in his life before coming to NY. He got plugged in next to Panarin eventually, and finished the season pacing for 20 goals and 40 points, and that wasn't playing the whole year with Panarin. Numbers could have actually been higher, and he isn't actually that good.

I have a feeling we're going to see Goodrow on the Panarin line and not in the bottom six. He'll still take the important defensive draws, protect leads and PK, but I have a feeling he's going to go in Blackwell's spot on the Panarin line. He's ideal. Puck hound, defensively responsible, non-stop motor. It's exactly what Panarin likes to have on his line. Even if Goodrow's production in that spot isn't any better than Fast/Blackwell, that line is still dangerous and Panarin is still a 90+ point player. That buys time for Kravtsov on the third line to ease in and distributes our depth a bit better. If Goodrow is filling a top six spot for us at 3.6M, that's not bad.

Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Laf - Zib - KK
Kreider - Chytil - Krav
Barron - Rooney - Blackwell

We still want to upgrade on Strome if possible, and if we can add another gritty 4th liner who can defend to take Blackwell's spot and use Blackwell as the extra, that's not too bad. Moreover, we wanted to change the look and identity of the team. If we add another gritty 4th liner and somehow change Strome to someone a bit more defensively reliable, this does that.

I expect Goodrow to play the exact same role that Fast/Blackwell played on Panarin's line and that he'll be around 15g 40pt spark plug. Playing with Panarin, he could be more. So far he paces for 30 points a year, purely at 5v5 and with 15 minutes a night on a shutdown line. Playing with Panarin 16+ minutes a night is a different story. Panarin is one of the best even strength point producers in the world and loves to have a guy like Fast/Goodrow on his off wing. If Goodrow's even a 40 point guy who takes the important draws and PKs, 3.6M won't be the end of the world. If he plays 12 minutes a night on the 4th line, it's a dumb signing.

Strome will be gone after next year. Drafting Svechkov friday and he will be our Nick Suzuki in 2022-2023.
Will slide into the 2c spot and lead us to a cup. :) :) :)
Save big bucks and profit
