i respectfully disagree. 20 min sample size i could buy, 108 min becomes a trend, that is the equivalent of over 5 full periods of hockey with 3 pts

I find your phrasing here disingenuous.

Those 5 periods is doled out very sporadic spurts and not always with the same line mates. Most of those times he's gotten PP run it on average less TOI than an ES shift

Do I agree that he could have stumbled into more than 3 points, probably. but it's a non-issue with the way most PP's operate in the NHL.

a few months ago there was a post that mentioned a large majority of PP goals are scored in the 1st minute and that beyond that, the number of goals scored on the PP drastically decreases (league wide)

Morgan Geekie signs. People forget he led the league in goals per game in 19-20.

Don't have much to add other than agreeing that Chytil is underrated by our own fanbase.

He's by no means untouchable, but he was really good last season. No reason to think he can't be a long term solution at C.

Yup. Been beating that drum for months. If Chytil had been developed in the AHL rather than in limited minutes in the NHL, he'd be talked about as one of the top emerging centers in the league. The first time he gets a legit opportunity (minutes, pp time, and linemates) he's going to break out. The only question is whether it will be here.

I can’t trust any measurement that suggests Danaults offensive contributions are similar to Barzal and Aho’s - there’s got to be some noise or other factors in those numbers. I don’t want to lean on “watch the games” but seriously - it’s stark when watching. He doesn’t drive offense like them at all.
It's stark when watching but it doesn't change facts

Danault scores at a similar rate at ES than some star players. Most star plays score like half their points on the powerplay. Nothing controversial here.

The question is can he do it by himself. Historically, from what I recall, when he’s not with gallagher his individual and play driving stats tank. Someone like panarin or maybe Barzal can produce regardless of linemates but Danault may need to be played with only strong players to get similar production

Those were literally points.

I'd give Chytil 28 over 6 years and lock him down at 4.66 per.

A criminally underrated forward that can generate offense at ES.
Getting $400K less than a UFA RNH? That's way too much at this point imo.

6 years $21-23M; buy 2 UFA years. If all goes well, get another massive contract at 27-28 years old.

If only we had a team with strong wingers.

chytil is such a funny case, if he wasnt nyr property then the same guys pumping his tires now would be saying he is worth gauthier and robertson in a trade bc of his injuries, soft matchups, and him never breaking 30pts in his career

To be fair, the same holds true in the opposite direction. If Chytil were on another team and still had the shiny new toy sheen, those trying to ship him out in every trade thread would be offering Zib for Chytil and a 1st.

Thinking expansion, I like Blackwell a lot. I think he plays a type of game not many of our guys do--lots of hustle and work ethic--but is he worth using a protection slot on?

Is it possible we swap Gauthier for a d-man considering we have that extra slot?

evolving hockey has Chytil at 3 years 2.6M.. so if you're looking at 5 years you can probably get him to sign for 4 per right now if you believe in him that much
if you're going 5 years, you probably want some ufa years... which bumps up that number significantly.

We're in a petty good spot with expansion. There's nobody we need to protect that I care that much about protecting. I would use a spot on Blackwell.

see that’s what the Rangers need to hit on. Don’t screw up the evaluation and if you project a player to be good long term at a reasonable or below future dollar rate, get it done. You can’t wait until they price themselves out of your cap comfort and hope to trade them at a deadline imo.

It's even-strength production. The Tatat Danault Gallagher line has always been at the top in that regard. Take one of those wingers away, and the line struggles.

On a side note, if Danault shuts down the opposing team and is good at transitioning the play out of the zone, it helps the offense... If he allows his wingers to cheat because of his defensive play, it also helps. If I had to guess, his 'career years' would have a lot of secondary assists.

He honestly is the exact type of matchup/defensive center we need... UFA terms is a disaster waiting to happen. I remember reading his sticking point was playing time in Montreal. He wanted ice time and was concerned with Suzuki and Kotka coming up...

the counter though is why are players signing those deals right now knowing that they may be taking really low money later one when the cap starts rising again? i'm not arguing at all, i am just questioning it from the player side, what is really their incentive right now to sign those deals?

Whatever D we got back in exchange for Gauthier likely wouldn’t be worth a protection slot.
