You're forgetting his head coach... Quinn was not interested in developing Chytil. He had strome who he wanted to give / production to. Likely a big reason he's gone.
if it were just the coach's decision he would have been gone during the season. management was obviously okay with it as they stood by him. and all summer we hear that they want to upgrade on strome, not once have you heard they are going to move strome to give chytil a bigger role.

I’ll defend it. When it’s all in the last 30 seconds left, that’s not exactly giving much time to gain the zone and possession and set up. Pretty unfair for you to judge him on that very limited exposure with the second unit.
i respectfully disagree. 20 min sample size i could buy, 108 min becomes a trend, that is the equivalent of over 5 full periods of hockey with 3 pts

The quality of that ice time does actually matter. Just like quality of competition matters, on the PP if you get 10 seconds to just try and set up, and then the advantage is over, thats not really 10 seconds.
Also if you go on the PP with Rooney, its not really a man advantage is it?

Exactly my thinking, cause Quinn would switch powerplays usually after a clear towards the end of the PP. So in essence, those 38 seconds were really 20s of actual zone time per game.

Hajek still not signing is interesting. He might get dealt before 3 PM EST tomorrow methinks. Small potatoes, but still
do you believe the team may make any moves in the next 24hrs to improve players in protection spots or are they just going to sit tight with minor moves if any?

You are being way too critical. You are comparing his 3 to the best number at this level of ice time which was Spezza at 12 who is over 15 years older. Also, Chytil is 21 years old. You are just being hypercritical for no reason on a kid who is still developing and is already turning into a very good player.

Honestly I can't see Bonino getting 3-4 mil per season at this point. He is a Connecticut kid (Bruins side, but still). He got a 4 year 4.1 mil deal that just ended, and that was as a 29 year old fresh off back to back cups. In a flat-cap world at 33... but I may be way off base. His counting stats were surprisingly decent.

I don’t believe in Filip Chytil as much as some do around here, but the last thing I'd do to make a case against him is cite his power play production from this season.

Anyone with eyes would tell you power play 2 might as well have not existed with the way power play 1 kept themselves on the ice for 1:45.

Another veteran LHD but yeah, there are better options out there than Edler

Admittedly, these guys can go down hill in a hurry and I don’t have great track of recent Edler — he may be a good value signing.

But — why are we talking about the likes of Edler and Tarasenko and co?

It’s perfectly possible, maybe even probable, that we only will see intra decision games next season. Washington 10 times a year. NYI 10 times a year. Philly 10 times a year. Boston 10 times a year.

Does players even want to come here knowing how exposed they are and how they will play for a team on which nobody has any kind of capacity to stand up for each other?? I definitely think that plays a part for some players at least.

Why aren’t we talking more about what these guys can do without their gloves? KOs/60? Retaliatory match penalties/60? Suspended for leaving the bench to fight/60?

An overcorrection is needed. We need to be able to at least — MATCH — the physical ability of the teams it’s perfectly possible we will play 40-50% against next season. If we start well and they don’t and we are as soft as last season — what will they do? Rough up Panarin? Like why on earth wouldn’t they.

Reeves, Imama and co should be mentioned 10 times for every time someone like Tarasenko is mentioned. When we take on a LD — me must be physical. Like that LD is replacing Smith who was 10x as tough as the second toughest player on the team.

9 points but we ended the season on like a 5 game losing streak. We were in the hunt in april, which considering our division was fantastic.
KK took a step forward but that looked like his own.
Laf took 25+ games to get comfortable but then wasnt given the right time.

Miller needed to be sat a couple times, and definitely struggled once trouba was out.

Chytil in the first 1/4 of the season though... best center on the team playing 3rd line.

Yeah but that the same time, Boston was clearly better than us. If we don’t win the last game it’s 13 pts…

Danault is soo enticing as a 2c but this feels like Kevin Hayes. Valuable player but he's going for the big bucks.

Howden for Reeves. Hajek for MacDermid. Georgiev for Khaira+. Maybe Fredric in Boston. Or that bruising young RW in Vancouver. I would expect something smaller like one or two of these scenarios. FIRST

Are you talking about Jake Virtanen? :)

Boko Imama should be in there. His Leaving the bench to fight (LTBTF)/60 is the best in all first and 2nd tier leagues in hockey.

Pointless to crucify any of the young guys over it but the PP2 as a unit being awful was something you could pick up just from watching the games. I don't even care how bad the numbers looked. They barely ever gained or kept the zone.

I still don’t understand how Buch or KK (more Buch) wasn’t on the right side of that first PP unit. We had 4 RH players on that unit and he could have had some great angles to shoot off the pass.

Maybe Quinn was too insecure and defered to Panarin too much.

Im not sure who's more useless Reeves or Khaira. Atleast Reeves fights but its hard to do when you can't play hockey, he makes Tanner Glass look like Hossa. Pass on both of them, Fredric i could get behind but I'm not sure Boston lets him leave.

10x more than Lindgren? but point taken.

I looked at those stats and the point still holds. there are players getting more points w the same sort of pp time. I am not saying he CAN'T becoming a useful pp guy, I am saying right now he is not an effective one and if the argument is that he needs more pp time I continue to ask who is he taking that pp time away from to gain anything significant?

Yes there are also players who score more points than Artemi Panarin with the same amount of ice time. Doesn't mean he's not an effective player because he is not the absolute best.

I just sat down and thought about something a good friend said recently about Tampas $$ situation and their history with NYR. Maybe Tyler Johnsson (~$1 M retained) and their 2021 3rd for and another pick for Colin Blackwell and eventually a small added cost controlled piece to Floridas inner coast? Would we do that stopgap idea (presuming then Strome is dealt elsewhere for other assets)? It would lead to dominoes - thats 4 sure. I dunno

I wouldn't take TJ for free, and certainly not with a 2021 3rd as the only sweetener.
