I pass on Kreider. I trade him at the deadline for a first round pick even if we are in a playoff spot.

All the tools are there but the production isn’t. He will be another Nash who gets paid a lot for what he actually brings. We want people to score, not using hustle and defense play as talks to defend him (ex. Nash during the playoffs). 7m+ players should be point producers.

I just don't think 5x7 million is outlandish. He'll still have made over 50 million playing hockey and i'm sure he'd get another deal after that one. I could be way off base as I don't know the dude or what's in his head. I guess we'll see. Personally, I'd rather trade Buch and use some of that money on Kreider.

Well, $2 million annually is a hell of a discount. That's $14 million he'd be leaving on the table over a 7 year deal, to play on a second line.

It's possible, but I just don't see it.

We better get a young ELC left winger back, then, otherwise we're gonna be playing Panarin 30 minutes a game. I doubt Barron will be NHL ready next season.

Well depending on how things shake out, you're probably hoping that Kravtsov can take over that spot next year. Perhaps Chytil as well if it's ultimately decided that he's not a center. Same for Andersson.

I think it's totally reasonable for Chytil to start in the AHL, trying to learn how to play C in the pros. The question is, what if he's ultimately not a center at the NHL level? How long do they try to make him into one? At what point does it start to harm his overall development?

A few months in the A is NOT too long. But I would argue if Chytil's not showing significant progress by end of 2019, they need to re-assess. At this point, he doesn't need to be in the AHL to develop as a winger. He would develop more in the NHL as a wing. So, this is something worth paying attention to.

As far as I can tell, the only C in the whole system that looks like a true distributor is Henriksson. Tho, I think Andersson's vision and hockey sense is underrated by the staff. Barron is a bottom 6 center or a potential power forward. I would LOVE to see him turn into a Tyler Toffoli type. Not sure if his skating will be good enough to become that, but we'll see.

Kreider extension aside, don't forget that the Shatty buyout cap hit goes up by $4.6M next year and you need wiggle room for that. If you assume they let Strome ($3.1m), McKegg (750k), Haley (700k), Fast (1.85m) and Beleskey (825k while in the minors) go, that's $7.225m of space but you need room to resign Lemieux (RFA), DeAngelo (RFA), Georgiev (RFA) and replacements for the 5 you let walk.

While some will say Staal, Smith and Hank come off in 2022, keep in mind Buch, Andersson, Howden, Chytl, Hajek and Rykov will all be looking for extensions and Zib's contract, along with Kakko, Fox, Kratsov and Kakko are all up the following year. That's a big headwind if you assume Zib plays at the level we've seen him play last year and the start of this year and at least 2 or 3 of the kids develop as we are hoping they will.

Simply put, I don't think a Kreider extension at $7m or higher, even if on a 4 year basis, is a luxury the team can afford to have while keeping the upcoming talent in the fold.

5 years at 7 million. And I think 7 is on the high end.

I have a feeling any Kreider move will not go down to the trade deadline. Once we get to Thanksgiving, I expect he will be in serious play. The Rangers will have a good idea by then what they are dealing with and I think they would prefer to not have this hanging over their head all season.

And my preference, is to trade him for a good young player rather than another draft pick. Suitors should start to become evident soon.

RE: Kreider situation:

I think the way Bread has stepped in and immediately linked with Mika has been huge as far as solidifying the new core.

Bread came in and made Kreider pretty extra, especially moving forward.

Let him put up some points and ship him out for a nice asset from an 'over the top' hungry contender.
Kreider isn't extra when we have no other 2LW options.

Owen Tippet?

I think Kreider is definitely getting moved. He’s just not a guy you give big money to given the big contracts already on the team and the potential contracts for Kaako, Zbad, etc in a couple of years.

We lack secondary scoring right now but we’ve got Chytil and Kravstov on the way and at worst one of Andersson or Howden should at least get slid to wing so they can both play on the third line, if neither is being given a shot on the second. We could also get a young forward in exchange for Kreider. I’m not against packaging one of Hajek/Rykov/Lindgren with him to maximize the return.

Well, there are a lot of things to consider aside from just the Rangers. There are also the Knicks, concerts, etc. not to mention 30 other teams to consider when creating a schedule. I could be wrong but I don't think it is just one person or one factor.

Remember when we kept starting the season on big west coast swings under AV, and would get out to a slow start, and everyone was irate and wanted a cupcake start to the season?

Yikes, are there really some people here that would entertain the idea of giving Kreider another contract?

I don't think these people quite understand what the salary cap is, or have just horrible foresight.

To me it's kind of like an old love you can't let go, always been with Kreider. As of now, I think the team will trade Kreider, Fast and Strome.

Just all of them for picks. I specially look at Carolina, who have like 15 picks. Those three should get us like 2 prospects and 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

The other possibility Re: Kreider is if the Rangers can't find a taker for a young player as the basis of the return, they could always parlay the picks they get back for an asset that they like at the draft or over the summer, same as they were able to accomplish to acquire Trouba.

Some teams will take a pick in the 20's for a young player that they are giving up on.

I'd almost prefer this. Leverage the deadline and acquire what teams are looking to give away (picks and prospects) and then leverage the picks/prospects that teams value more in the off-season for an established player.

Where's the button to move ahead in the action for this stupid bye week?

@Loffen is not going to know how to make a GDT on Saturday.

I would totally give him another reasonable deal.
