He won't get 4M from MTL. If he was, he'd be signed already. So IF he signs with Habs, which is my hope, I believe he will be signed anywhere between 3M-3.75

I peg him at 3.25 I would even go 5 no clauses knowing that it will be easy to move if it comes to that.
Evans may find that is where his market is at when or if he does opt for free agency.

Forget it. Mostly mediocre players who will get far too much. It will be difficult to make a good move there.

I am not sure Evans or Armia move the needle enough for a playoff push but it's hard to sell the players on gutting the depth when we're three points out with 3 days until the deadline. Detroit are falling off their "new coach high" and Columbus are riding on unsustainable magic.

But Boston can heat up at any time and the Rangers are doing quite well since getting Miller. So we're really longshots even with us being currently equal to about 8 teams. We're 3 points out but also 4 points from third last in the east.

It's tough because fans and players both have expectations, but what's better long term? Would a first and a second from selling Evans/Armia play with the current core? Probably not, but you can probably get a better player with those assets than Evans/Armia in the summer.

If it's me I would probably even buy. I would expect Laine to get better with rust shaking off and I feel like we could go on a pretty big tear to end the season. BUT so many teams are in the same position, there's not going to be a lot of sellers if 10 teams can plausibly make the playoffs.

I've said it before but trading a ton for Rantanen and extending him could be a big play. He's obviously not signing in Carolina if it's taking this long and though his stats aren't great, his advanced stats are actually better in Carolina than they were in Colorado this season.

Other than Rantanen I don't really see much in the way of guys who could become long term fixtures. Maybe Bennett but why would Florida trade him, let alone in the division? They're trying to defend the cup.

Donato is not a core player on any playoff team.

Boeser is a maybe, but likely not worth his contract ask. Scoring 40 was a major outlier from his career averages.

After them the next age appropriate player is basically Jake Evans. One of the worst deadline groups I've seen; nearly every major UFA is on a contender. If you filter to only teams that are not even in the race Donato is the only guy above 20 points.

Unless you target an expiring RFA the team doesn't want to pay. A Peterka or a Zegras type. Or pay premium for a next-year UFA like Tuch.

Max Truman said on BPM Sports that from what he hears, the way Evans is talking to his close friends and the way he's arranging things, he is expecting to be traded. Marinaro added that Evans knows he's being traded and that Evans is devastated (he's been saying it the last week or so).
