Speculation: Roster Building Thread VII (2019/2020)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Guys like Eric Staal can look good on paper, but for years he has been a negative contributor for his team. So easy to control and push back. Sure he is clutch and will put some pts on the PP and when getting top ice time. But if you play good hockey against his unit it’s just walk-over.

That's fair. He should be a 4 year college player, but I think after that he could be a very nice middle 6. Only time will tell, like most of these guys.

depends on how this year goes...and I have no idea what his personal plans are but I think its highly likely he signs at the end of the year unless his priority is to graduate.

Yeah that's true. We will see how it shakes out. I kinda hope he goes back for the senior year but if he's ready, and he feels he's ready, then maybe he makes the jump.

With 3 games in 3 and a half days, Quinn cannot lean heavy on that top line like he has. The bottom 6 is going to get more minutes because you cannot play that top line 20 minutes a game during this kind of a stretch, so finding an effective 2nd AND 3rd line is imperative.

If it's not working in game, I'd expect even more jumbled lines either tomorrow night or Friday night.

I'm a bit relieved though to have a coach who will ride his top players. Zibanejad is 4th among all forwards in ATOI w/ 21:51.

That was because we played 3 games in 30 days. I don’t think it will happen once we start playing more.

If we were good that would be different. But imo this season is sneaking into the playoffs cause Quinn overplayed Mika And panarin is just about the worst case scenario

The team making the playoffs because the coach did a good job at coaching is a bad thing?

Hey this morning is proof that even hfboards can get sick of talking the same points to death.

Season begins tonight. Got games every 2nd night at the worst.

We should really just start our evaluations over beginning now

It's nice to know he can and will do this if needed, but the rest of this month will be tough to do this. There was one game Zibanejad was out there for 25 minutes. That will not be possible moving forward.

a coach on a rebuilding team riding his top veteran players instead of developing the young players is not a good coaching job or a good thing...if we don't get a high pick cause all the kids took the next step forward thats great. but not cause he overplayed those 2...

we have already been thru this countless times...how many times did we have a good record cause hank was awesome and hid all the warts and problems of the team for us to then get exposed in the playoffs...we don't need to do that again. lets build a good TEAM and if it takes more time thats fine with me.

smith will continue to play until they feel that ADA and/or Fox can kill penalties...playing 3rd line vs 4th line, I wonder if that is more about putting Lemieux and Lias together??

Zibanejad has played 32% of the teams 5v5 minutes. Last year he played 30%. That additional two percentage points equates to less than 1 minute per game spread between the 3 other centers. It's not affecting their development.

oh I'm not saying its been a problem...I'm just saying, in theory, we can drastically improve our record play playing that top line a ton...but overplaying them isnt necessarily best for the team in the long run.

Deep down I feel Boyle’s gonna be a Ranger before thanksgiving

There’s a reason he hasn’t signed and it’s not bc he doesn’t have offers. He’s obviously waiting on something

Is Andersson that bad, have character issues, i don't get why Andersson can't play the center ice position in the top 6 and move Strome to the wing which what he is. Smith to Defense and use 7 d and 11 forwards
