Absolutely not, but you're missing the point. At this rate the organizational plan is to basically be the Edmonton Oilers and keep hoping the next high pick is the "light at the end of the tunnel" where they have finally "completed the rebuild."
There are a lot of high picks already in the organization. Guys Gorton acquired elsewhere like Zibanejad, Strome, Trouba were at once upon a time high draft selections. We're at the point where this season should be about starting to get more out of the young players they already have.
They just traded Namestnikov to put Smith on the third line instead of seeing what they have with Lias, Kravtsov or Chytil. They also bought out Shattenkirk as a salary move... just to dump Namestnikov two games into the season. The organization has also paid Panarin, Skjei and Trouba. This should be a transition season, not another full-blown "bad" rebuild season. If you don't grow with the kids this season, then next season with Byfield we'll only really be starting to get decent looks out of guys who should've started getting good looks from the get-go this season.
They don't know if they're coming or going. That, or the "young" talent they have here... maybe isn't as good as we first thought. Which is a MAJOR issue.
