Speculation: Roster Building Thread VII (2019/2020)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I’m not rooting for us to lose. I just think it’s a win win for a rebuilding team when the two options are make playoffs and contend, or miss playoffs and get an elite player to further boost your team’s talent crop.

A Byfield type player could be the difference between being contenders and being a dynasty.

I' also really excitd to see what we have in our D prospect namely Robertson, Jones and Miller.

expecting them to lose cause the team isn't very good yet isn't the same as rooting for them to lose.

All my usernames and email addresses and stuff is always just my real name, but I didn’t exactly want to do that for a message board so I felt like the whole thing behind George Kaplan not being a real person fit really well for a username and I think the Vertigo poster is way better than any of the posters for North by Northwest and I think when I changed it I was in a huge Hitchcock phase (not that I’m ever not in one because he’s got a billion great movies)

Disagree. Of course I'll get upset. I have a vested interest. I mean hell, can't you say that about EVERY team you root for? "It's okay if they lose because it means a higher draft pick"? It's a nice consolation for some, but not for me.

I just mean that I’ve looked at this roster before the season has started and went “oh, they’re going to be bad” so when they’re bad and they lose I’m way less upset then when a few seasons ago I was expecting them to go deep in the playoffs and they would lose games where they were bad. With the way the lottery is, better odds are great and all, but the lottery balls only come up once, so I’m not going to get too worked up about that

I think we're just upset on the circumstances i.e. it being the winless Devils after waiting like 20 months between games. Like if we lose tonight against the Caps it won't be that big of a deal, they are a much better team than ours.

Fair to be realistic, but personally, we could have a bunch of Haleys on offense and Staals on defense and I'd still be upset if we lost. Maybe I'm too competitive and naive, but I want and expect us to win every game.

Last night was definitely some of the worst I’ve ever seen around here, but it felt like a lot of this stuff has been popping up here and there for a little while now, though the schedule probably plays a pretty big part in that

I definitely won’t fault you for that, that’s pretty much how I was since I started following the team so closely, but since the letter I feel like I’ve zoomed out or slowed down a little bit and it’s helped this whole process be fun for me rather than pure misery
