Everyone's gonna hate this idea for no reason but it makes a lot of sense.

The board's tendency to hate Eric more then Marc is so ****ing off the wall lol

I mean, I'd consider Strome for Staal, if it didn't completely ruin any chance of keeping Kreider.

If we're already 100% decided on moving on from Chris, then sure.

Minnesota apparently wants right-handed shots. Strome covers that base.

Morgan Barron, I think, will make a lot of Ranger fans very happy.

true as long as we come to terms with another C who probably tops out at the 3.

hes big and he can shoot but is he a top 6 guy ?

hell be great on the PP and hes got size but the rest, not so sure.

few years away anyway

IDK. That's kind of revisionist since that same investment was manifesting in pitchforks until he cracked the roster this season. I can't think of many first round Rangers picks who haven't faced substantially more criticism than their less pedigreed peers. Del Zotto. Kreider. McIlrath. Miller. Skjei. I mean just read the old Andersson threads, the Chytil one when he got sent down, and Kravtsov's thread currently.
Well personal attachment goes both ways, i.e. his poor play and good play may both be slightly exaggerated (keyword: slightly).

Too early to tell.

Putting up a lot of points in a reasonable amount of time isn't necessarily uncharted territory for Pionk --- he was on a 50 point pace well into last season as well.

The challenge comes when teams adjust, and the offense isn't coming. That's when you start to separate the guys you can consistently count on, from the guys who take on more of a specialist role.

Having said that, I think Pionk is a guy who could have a long NHL career as a player who ideally slots into the third pairing, occasionally the second, and probably plays for several teams.
A poor man's Doug Lidster, maybe? He was a very solid player at the end with the Rangers. I can only assume he was excellent in his prime.

Yeah but the support for him getting a chance at 2C vs. resistance to Howden doesn't seem to be based in their origin stories. It's about how they've played this season. I'm with you in that I don't care if Howden gets a shot at 2C and I'd rather see Andersson get a chance at 3C before getting into the top-6, but the McDonagh trade/7OA prodigal son thing doesn't line up with how these players have been perceived prior to this season.

was gonna say how can anyone complain about a 6th round pick becoming a legit 3C but then remembered where I was...

I will add a completely unoriginal point though one that bears repeating- I think the long stretch between games is causing us all to over-analyze.

What's especially weird is that the total number of October games isn't all that incomparable to a lot of previous years. I was thinking about 11-12 today, because it's kind of my instructive example for how October doesn't tell you much about a team (they were 4-3-3... looked the definition of mediocre... ended up with the 1st seed in the playoffs). The Rangers played 10 games in October that year, and they'll play 10 games by the time this October is up, but the season that year didn't open until October 7th.

So we're going to have a normal amount of data by the time October ends. It's just these weird gaps.

Hands down, purely in terms of style, Tyler Johnson is a perfect fit for us.

Guys like Eric Staal can look good on paper, but for years he has been a negative contributor for his team. So easy to control and push back. Sure he is clutch and will put some pts on the PP and when getting top ice time. But if you play good hockey against his unit it’s just walk-over.
Ya, I'd definitely take TJ over E. Staal if given the option. Not sure what that trade would look like or if Tampa would even be interested in trading him.

Well, since the Names trade, we've banked quite a bit of cap space that we wouldn't have otherwise. Could see a call up after the weekend. Someone like Nieves could come up and give a center option and move Strome to the wing.

With 3 games in 3 and a half days, Quinn cannot lean heavy on that top line like he has. The bottom 6 is going to get more minutes because you cannot play that top line 20 minutes a game during this kind of a stretch, so finding an effective 2nd AND 3rd line is imperative.

If it's not working in game, I'd expect even more jumbled lines either tomorrow night or Friday night.
