I'd argue that the team drifted away from Torts' defensive system and into that man on man BS that AV liked.

Having Girardi playing man on man defense was criminal.
AV employed a man to man system. It was a shitty system, but there nonetheless was a system and game plan in place.

This team hasn't had a defined game plan in the past 5 years since AV was let go.

I don’t understand what people think about lindgrens next contract to be in the 5 or 6s. He is making 3m per, has not put up offensive numbers and won’t get a big raise.

His next contract should be 3 or 4 years at 4m per. That’s it. Done.

then at his last year we trade him. That will take him to 29 yo.

Hes not getting $5mm. Theres not a team in the league that will pay him that.

Contracts have skyrocketed. Tanev got $4.5m and at this point, Lindgren is better than Tanev. That's what a serviceable defenseman costs.

The answer to this team’s 5v5 problems is to acquire a guy who currently is a candidate to be bought out by the Vancouver Canucks. Am I understanding correctly?
To be fair, it's more than "acquiring a player". It starts with an actual system that the players are buying into.

He could potentially benefit from an increased cap. I don't think he'll get over 4.5. But the bigger issue will be, If not Lindgren, then who? If you don't solve the hole on that side with either a player now, or an expected player to take Lindgren's spot after next year, then the organization will do what they can to keep Lindgren.

Fine with me, but this is an organization that gave both Marc Staal and Dan Girardi contracts over 5 million dollars for multiple years and they were just as limited as Lindgren offensively.

The new whipping boy if he was here. Another player forced into a position due to lack of depth Dryden Hunt part 2 lol
Comparing Hunt to Garland is a lazy way of telling me you haven't seen Garland play nearly enough. Hunt is a 4th line grinder who might be able to move up to line 3 in a pinch or the right situation.

Garland is a legit middle 6 forward with speed & tenacity. He's also skilled with the puck & has a good shot, so he can play on PP2 & even kill penalties. Plus he's excellent at agitating & getting under players skin. Something we can sorely use around here.

Garland is a 1st liner on a really bad team. Should be a 3rd liner on a contending playoff team. If he is top 6, Rangers are in trouble.

Garland was a force on Arizona. The most diet of marchands the way he skates on his edges, or maybe more like an upper-class Yamamoto. Speaking of, I'd take a flier on him if the oilers make him available--for a cheap price ofc.

I'll disagree there. From what I've seen of him, Yamamoto feels like he is a product of Draisatl/McD.

I beat the drum for Bennett when he was available. I beat the drum for PLD when he was on the outs in Columbus (even if he wanted to leave for MTL, we would have had him these past two 60+ point seasons instead of Trochek and would get an asset back if moving him to MTL). I brought up moving Chytil + for Hintz back when Hintz was a 35 point player. Maybe just let me do the pro scouting :sarcasm:

I watch the ECF and I just want to be FAST and hard forechecking team. We’re so plodding and predictable. I want the speed and tenacity to be on top of the opponent the second they pick up the puck and just cause HAVOC around their net, capitalize on garbage goals and quick shots off broken plays that are created by just buzzing. You can reach a team to do that. Some players don’t have it in their DNA, but most can be taught. Just chase the puck and the man who has it like he has the only known dose of the cure for cancer and you need it for your mother. Every shift. The end.

Got the winning lottery numbers for this week and who's primed for a breakout next year that may be available or blocked?

I could probably put together a good list of players I think will take a step next year. Where we fit them and how we acquire them is an issue though. I’ll probably edit this post with some picks for next year breakouts - excluding obvious choices like blue chip prospects - and we can come back in a year and see if I’m as dumb as I sound or not

True but we are already in a cap crunch and I highly doubt he will get anything with a 5 In front of it. And are we all really complaining about lindgren making 4m per year?

im hoping that druzy has learned from his predecessors and knows that this is his last contract with us

As far as signing Lindgren, I'm all for it. Let's say it's around that $4.5 figure. We're weak on the left and he leaves a huge hole. Who are you getting instead that's saving us money at that price?

Maybe Jones or Robertson take over but they're on ELC's which gives us a nice wait-and-see window while we use their ELC savings to pay Lindgren.

As far as trading Lindgren for more of a need, that depends on what's coming back. LD is arguably the biggest need.
We may have some common ground !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to move Lindgren b'c it is max profitable planning to do so NOW
moving later = huge less return + assumes he does not become super damaged goods. Right now he is only physically declining, slowly, but surely.

I am more optimistic than you about Robertson + Scanlin
I would move Lindgren for max top $$ value return in picks, pocket the cap savings and redo w/who we draft using those picks.

Agree if no good offer, don't just ditch Lindgren
but admit
if high enuf offer on the table, grab it

No stupid buch mistakes waiting til he has no term on any dea

Who cares? I don't give a crap what they did in the 60's and before when the "draft" was completely rigged towards teams in Canada.
Mmmmmm ok

We're the shittiest original 6 team was my point.

We are, AND HAVE BEEN a rudderless ship & 1994 was the "broken clock being right" one time in 80 f***ING yrs and I'm sick to f***ING death of it.

It's too bad no one in management is.

Good for you if you aren't either.
