The ultimate Panarin placating move.

Bring in someone who makes as much as he does who also doesn't produce when it matters, at least that way he won't feel alone!

(I'm joking about Matthews before SA16 goes postal.)
Well one thing is for sure, Panarin would be a better fit with Matthews than he is with Zibanejad. Never gonna happen though we are stuck with Zibanejad forever.

Can we trade our loser Panarin for one of Toronto's losers (Marner, Tavares). They only have 2 years left so we'd get cap relief a year early.

While I don't know what people think about coaching, I do think a lot of people are vilifying Gallant. He system does work and has worked for decades, if you have a team that can do it. I'm not sure if he felt like he had that team after the deadline. Doing the same thing over and over again in hockey is not insanity, it's actually a strategy. And it works for him, and it's worked for many many others over the last century. If you don't have the supporting cast and a passionate group of younger players (REALLY pushing for a bigger job--Chytil and maybe Miller were sort of in that category), it's not going to work> and look, whatever advanced stats there are proving The Kids had more of an impact within the veterans, you see where the chances are coming from, and it's not them pretty often. I know there are people who would rather see Kakko or Lafreniere in the final minute of a game seven, down by one. If you know they're probably not going to score, you go with the guy gives you the best chance. Gallant did not mishandle the youth anymore than Quinn did. This is New York, that's the ultimate explanation for everything.

In the case of Drury,

His system is old and is not how successful teams play today. His system is predicated on avoiding the middle of the ice, chipping the puck up the boards and out the zone.

Modern hockey is done by utilizing the middle of the ice with short passes and working as a 5 man unit going up together with speed through the neutral zone.

Gallants system worked for decades but unfortunately is not how hockey is played this decade.

He is unflexible in his approach no matter how wrong he is, and frequently blames everything other than himself and his shitty system.

He is the worst coach we have had since trottier and its not even close. The man is a buffoon who road the coattails of extremely good good goaltending in every franchise he has been with while his teams got worse every single year.

The man should never be hired again as a coach in the league.

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek were discussing Matthews contract. Elliotte believes Matthews wants to sign a 4-5 year contract to stay with TO. Matthews is 26 years old. It would have to be a contract which makes him the highest paid player in the sport.

Elliotte Friedman. Choir boys don't win the Cup. You need to have a team full of pricks.

You can win with a mix of both.

What you can't win with is a head case wanna be stand up comedian who shrivels at the first sign of adversity.

I suggested trading Panarin for one of them. The number of chokers would stay the same but we'd get a choker off our team in 2 years rather than 3.

Rather deal Panarin for nothing than more chokers. Rangers need to change the culture back to hard workers. The Dubinsky Callahan Brian Boyle Dom Moore type of players mixed with the elite skill Rangers have with Mika Fox etc. Cant wait for Cuylle Othmann Sykora hopefully to be that types for the Rangers in the future.

Gostisbehere replaces kandre and thats a net positive. Holloway is versatile.

Laff-mika-kakko
Panarin-chytil-holloway
Kreider-trocheck-vesey
Cuylle-bjugstad-motte

Lindgren-fox
Gostisbehere-trouba
Robertson-schneider
Harpur

Id have othmann do a year in hartford then replace vesey with othmann in 2024-2025 season and keep vesey at 13th forward
I wish people would stop this nonsense. So we get a new coach and do you really think he is going to immediately stick his ass on the line and put both Laf and Kakko on the first line so we can "see what they really can do". No he won't. Any coach with a brain will come in and have a prove it process meaning you earn playing time based on performance. This silliness 3 weeks into the off season is over the top. Its obvious posters put down what they want to see versus what is best for team and what a sound coach would do.

THATS the problem you have with that post?

I think Drury will hire a coach that will tighten the leash on Panarin. Drury was unhappy with Panarin's playoff performance last season so he must be furious after what happened this season. GG is too much of a player's coach to rein in Panarin.

Why is everyone trying to trade all our young players instead of the overpaid do nothings that cost us a run this year? If you add up Panarin, Trouba and Zibanejad's salary vs their production or effort in the playoffs its obvious where the problem lies in the cap world. You can't have 3 guys eating that much cap and laying an egg like that.

Panarin to Calgary for Huberdeau makes sense until you factor the NTC. I honestly dont think he's going anywhere

I don’t think Panarin is going to waive unless Drury literally calls him and tells him how much he doesn’t want him on the team. In reality we have two players we could move in Goodrow and Lindgren. I am not a fan of moving Lindgren at his cap hit at all. Goodrow I can almost guarantee is getting traded even if it costs assets to move him. We just can’t sacrifice losing our young core players because of older vets. If for some reason Panarin did waive I’m not looking to take another terrible contract back. I would consider marner because of his age, but Toronto would be dumb to do that. If he waived and we could free up a ton of cap space to just add depth around the lineup I would be pumped. I would even try to keep Goodrow.

I hope Toronto signs him to that contract so we don't have to worry about it.

I think the biggest obstacle to moving Panarin will be whether or not Drury has the stones to do it. He's not getting a great package back for him and that's going to be a hard sell to fans under normal circumstances. What Drury has working in his favor right now is that most fans are fed up with Panarin. So giving him the boot for a bad contract, middle-six player, B prospect and a pick isn't quite as tough of a pill to swallow. Players generally don't want to stay in a place where it's widely known the team doesn't want him.

If Panarin is here next year, Chytil should be his center and Laf and Kakko should be stapled on either side of Zib. Kreider and Trocheck played well together and they can give the team a different look for a 3rd line.

Panarin has a full nmc. He’s not waiving it unless it’s the absolute perfect scenario, and almost no team that is a “perfect “ scenario can afford that contract without us taking back shit.
