at this point, 'Kucheroving' Kane might be an option

Should try and go after Puljujarvi too then. The word is that he might need double hip surgery, but he'd be cheap and you can IR stash him anyway. The team is going to be up against the cap, so might as well get there and have a player that you can try and make a reclamation project out of when healthy.

Maybe this is one of the reasons the cap is good. We are forced to hopefully play guys like Jones maybe a Cuylle and give guys like Kakko and Lafreniere even more time. I'm sick and tired of signing guys for bloated contracts who really have no connection with the team.

Cap flexibility for what? To sign a center this year to replace Paul Stastny (just using him as an example because he was a popular name last year). The money was going to a center at some point regardless

Maybe a lesser center for the 3rd line and then have some money to fill the gaping hole at 2Rw

A $6m 3rd line center is a bit overkill. Chytil should have been given the 2c from the get go last year and if u sign maybe a $3m 3rd line center u then have $3m extra to try to get a RW which we desperately needed.

Also more time and responsibility for Chytil would help him develop faster, in theory.

Again i dont hate Trocheck but his signing really screwed our cap situation and we now have no flexibility. And all the bog contracts have NMCs or NTCs and alot of term on them.

This is kinda my thing with the Goodrow buyout. They can re-sign their guys without buying him out, and it seemed liked most people wanted to get rid of his cap hit just to sign 2 bottom 6ers to UFA contracts. Not really good process imo. If they were making space to bring back Tarasenko, or a top 6 upgrade, let's talk...but it seems like they are more interested in giving their young players more responsibility. We've had 100 points in back to back years, went to the playoffs on ice skates in both. Getting to the next level was always going to done with the improvement from within. I'm ok with standing pat with this roster.

Not surprised we didn’t buy out Goodrow, just not the right time. I’d rather pay someone to take him, than to have dead cap on the books.
depends what you mean by pay to take him? a 7th rounder? sure. a 6th sure.
not like we have any 2nd rounders left until 2045 but I wouldn't part with a decent asset.

Only reason I would buy out Goodrow contract if it somehow helps us sign Miller to a longer deal now vs in 2 years when he would want maybe 8 million instead of lets say 5 million range.

Staple wrote $1.2M for the back-up goalie. He mentioned the Rangers have discussed Talbot internally. Talbot flipped out when Guerin brought in MAF. Talbot isn't interested in being a back-up. There aren’t many #1 goalie spots available.

If Drury frees up money, he will be targeting bottom six help.
If so, RW is gonna be ugly

I think Lafreniere & Miller are going to sign 1 or 2 year deals at best but yes that would be good process. These guys have agents, they know the cap is going up, they both have every reason in the world to not sign long term right now. Miller can get a 6-7m AAV with ease if he has a solid year under an actual coaching staff (hopefully playing 1st pair minutes)

In 2 years odds are cap is up significantly and kreider and trouba are moved. Im not concerned about locking up KAM in a couple years after this bridge

pretty frustrating it's almost like we have to root for him to not seriously breakout. Like have a 50 plus point season while continuing to improve his overall game.

Now is the time though. Cap credit the next 2 years, then a 3.6 mil hit which would hurt but cap should be much higher in 2 years, then a few years of about 1 mil against the cap which is insignificant.

Fair enough but it would be nice to be ahead of the game for once. Many other teams we will be competeing against for the next decade are doing just that.

Screw that. I hope he wins the Norris next year. I have no problem paying the homegrown guys who have earned it. He is a core piece for this team now and for years to come

Wheeler apparently prefers the East coast on his next deal. Same agent as Kreider too. I doubt he is signing for 1mil or lower though

Can't believe how many people were against it in the poll I made regarding that. I don't think people realize how bad our cap situation is.
But isn't his recovery scheduled for like 4-5 months? How is he gonna be out until mid april for the end of the season? That is like what 10 months?

I dont think he's what we need... but LTIRing him wouldn't hurt. Who knows what we look like down the road

Wheeler is a 35+ player so they could sign him for a $1MM base and bonuses that potentially roll into the following year. I’m not advocating the Rangers load up on bonus contracts but he could be a very useful add.
