The obsession with a 4th liner is mindboggling. I rather get a rookie or some undrafted player get a shot. Motte is not that good. I rather bring back Dom Moore or Brian Boyle types of players. They were great 4th liners, something Motte is not. Rangers need to draft and trade for those types. Not some injury prone player that is not that good.
Ive never understood the Motte obsession. If he is so good why is he available every season near the minimum!

I dont hate trocheck the player. I hate the contract. Especially since we had Chytil. I would much rather of went for a good vet on a 1 or 2 year deal to give us cap flexibility.

Especially knowing there is a big possibilty of a flat cap (which was true) and needing to sign Laf and Miller who if they had a big breakout year would seriously have screwed us (luckily? That didnt happen)

Cap flexibility for what? To sign a center this year to replace Paul Stastny (just using him as an example because he was a popular name last year). The money was going to a center at some point regardless

I still don't see how it's possible to bring back basically the same team while filling out the rest of the roster. Can they even fit a 21 or 22 man roster while filling out the non Laf/Key spots at 800-850K salaries? Or do they have something lined up for Goodrow or a surprise trade we don't know about?

They almost have to.

That Duchene buyout was supposed to be in a different post lol

This is a potential roster with no Goodrow buyout. Maybe they save an extra couple hundred thousand on the 4RW and backup but still doesn’t seem worth it.

I personally wouldve bought out Goodrow but I understand why they didnt. Drury must not feel threatened by an offer sheet, and with the cap space saved they just wouldve signed another bottom 6er to replace Goodrow at 75% of the cost, so the "savings" were a bit fugazi.

Goodrow is a good fit for Laviolette's style, and hopefully Peca and the new staff can actually make him into a center. Get Vesey to start taking faceoffs too.

Fair points. Arizona's LTIR antics were the real mockery of the league and it doesn't seem like it is going to change much.

But it is still jarring watching a team give borderline retired players 4 million just to reach the floor. Perry hasn't made 4 million in the last 4 seasons. Haha.

I think it's more about depth than getting to the floor. Chicago isn't hurting for money and I think they'll bring in a few players as FAs.
