At 36, I could see it.
Wheeler is a 35+ player so they could sign him for a $1MM base and bonuses that potentially roll into the following year. I’m not advocating the Rangers load up on bonus contracts but he could be a very useful add.
1.5 + bonuses maybe?Wheeler apparently prefers the East coast on his next deal. Same agent as Kreider too. I doubt he is signing for 1mil or lower though
Wheeler, by every account, is a terrific locker room influence. If he's coming dirt cheap, it's hard to find a better option. My concern has always been with the locker room stuff. Is our leadership core strong enough to absorb another loud voice? Im not totally convinced, but Trouba is our Captain and he knows Wheeler well so maybe theyll get his input.
Something I’m seeing is that there is a general reduction in goalie value similar to the way running backs are being devalued in the NFL. When a journeyman like Adin Hill can win a Stanley Cup, that says a lot. Antti Niemi was at much different. Probably the biggest Piece of evidence is that no one seems to be running to Winnipeg to trade for Connor Hellybuck, who is clearly a top three NHL goaltender. All of this is relevant to the Rangers who have Igor‘s contract expiring in two years. That will be one worth watching.
Wait like seriously? Wasn’t he a big part of the toxicity in that wpg locker room.Wheeler, by every account, is a terrific locker room influence.

I don't think he was ever an issue. The people i know speak very highly of hIm.Wait like seriously? Wasn’t he a big part of the toxicity in that wpg locker room.
I hadn’t considered tanking but you’re right this might be the approach now.Goodrow needs to be on one of the top two lines. Those lines have no grinders as we saw against NJ. The problem with our top 3 lines was that none of the guys can battle on the boards and actually win the battle.
Goalies are inconsistent. One season they can be top five in Vezina voting. The next season they can be average. The special goalies are not special because they're so much better than the rest (they're not), they're special because they're consistent season over season. You pay Igor because you know he's going to give you great goaltending for the next few years. But you can probably go bargain bin hunting for a goalie who can put the same numbers as him next season.Something I’m seeing is that there is a general reduction in goalie value similar to the way running backs are being devalued in the NFL. Unless the 83.5 cap is BS, I don’t know how they do that without bridging Key and carrying a 21 rosterGuess they’re hanging onto Goodrow?
Rangers need to take this same approach
$1M barely buys you a studio apartment in Harlem. Pretty sure I saw Vesey living under the Queensboro Bridge but not many are willing to slum like him he's a character guy.How come we can't sign a bottom 6 guy like that for a million? Probably doesn't want to come to NY
We have one. Vesey. But the Rangers are only allowed 1 per league rules. How come we can't sign a bottom 6 guy like that for a million? Probably doesn't want to come to NY
Not gonna lie his speed would be nice.Ugh, I really want Duchene. Zibanejad, Duchene, Trocheck - would be incredible
Duchene isnt a center anymore he’d be on the wing. No shot he’s coming to the Rangers.Ugh, I really want Duchene. Zibanejad, Duchene, Trocheck - would be incredible
I’m thinking Wheeler might actually be a good player to play with Panarin to do all the dirty work maybe put Zib or Chytil between for some speed
Rangers need to take this same approach
Ideally we need speed but again we can’t be beggars. All depends what he would wantWheeler's demise is GREATLY dramatized. The guy is still a good top-6 winger with size. His reach, like Kaako, makes him a weapon at stealing pucks and holding possession. He's been a good defensive forward for years but people don't watch enough Winnipeg games to know.
