I'm liking the idea of Erne more and more. He plays with an edge and speed the team needs. Obviously no spares to start the season. They could offer Halak league minimum and bonuses which can be pushed out to next season to help create some space. Or they could go 2 years will Miller and drop his cap hit down maybe $500k per year.
I think we could get Vlad for like a 2 year $4M - 'I want to win' contract.

I'd be happy with Vlad or Engvall.

For a 4th line guy making less than $1m? Isn't that kind of what the team is looking for?

Hes coming off of a AAV of 2.1. He isn't making less than 1m.

There are dozens of players who are better than him who will end up signing for less. There are others who are way better who will sign for slightly more.

This will be an interesting off season around the league due to the cap expected to go up substantially over the next 2 years. RFAs likely might not want to sign long term yet, older players could take 1/2 year deals etc.

We really think Erne will make more than $1m? He was waived last year and no one claimed him

Lets sign Erne and Motte and not give any chance for Edstrom, Cuylle or Othmann any chance to make the team. Might as well trade them before they ruin their career. Enough of Tyler Motte. He is not that good and overrated. The obsession with 4th line PK guys with speed and nothing else shows the lack of knowledge among the fanbase that likes players that have no skill. The same fans that still think Gauthier is gonna break out because he has speed and no toolbox.

No one had the money (or desire) to accommodate him at his cap hit.

He'll make less than 2.1, but he'll come in between 1-2.

There will be guys who end up signing at league minimum or end up getting PTO's who are better players. I like his skill set, he just has never been able to put it to good use.

Well Haula got 3.1M and AFP projected 3.3 so seems to be in line. Tarasenko is 3X5 (Rangers prob need to get him to take 4 and ship out Goodrow). Still feels like Toffolli at 35-50% or a Wheeler buy out are the best option to fill RW hole (Unless it’s Laf or Kreider).

Of course the Flames can't blow everything up, but I would be right at the front of the line to ask them about Dillon Dube. He's 24, coming off a 45 point season, and fills a team need. You don't have to play him on the top 2 lines either.

Signing vets won't preclude guys like Edstrom, Cuylle or Othmann from making the team. Edstrom and Othmann likely need a year in the AHL in any case. There's no need to rush them. If and when they are ready, a spot will be made for them. Any vets we sign for 1.15 mil or less can be sent to the AHL without penalty.

The alternative is that we force young players into spots they aren't ready for, both hurting our chances to win and their development.

Conroy is going to have his hands full dealing with everything else. I can't see him even entertaining the idea of trading Dube.

Devils are locking up Haula (3 years at $3.15) and Meier (reportedly 8 years at $8.5).

Trade for Helleybuck next?

The Rangers should not be spending $3 million on Engvall or any veteran bottom 6 player. Just keep Goodrow then.

I don't disagree, was just stating that it may be a comparable he uses.

I'll say this though, if the team traded Goodrow for, say a few late round picks (5th + 6th + 7th) and then signed Engvall at ~$2.8m-2.9m I wouldn't be that upset. I can see the appeal for someone like Engvall as a better fit in the lineup than Goodrow. The team drastically needs guys who can compliment their other pieces. I don't see Goodrow as being that guy.

good. I dont think that team is built to win.

They will be ground to dust each playoffs after killer regular seasons... really curious to see how they look without Brunette

He cleared waivers last year so he probably is around 1 million after a poor season

Does he play RW? I thought I remember him being drafted as a center, but I thought he was also a LW with Calgary. Could be wrong.
