Roster Building Thread VI (2022-23): Offseason edition

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Wheeler makes sense but I think he’s going at 50 off via trade

We need to see what pre draft deals happen

Helleybuck is still a top tier goalie, but yeah he’d crater any long run.

He'll be just as expensive when he expires in two years and they'd be really smart to let him walk.

They didn't lose because of goaltending. They lost because they played two teams much bigger than they are and Ruff's entire gamelan was "hit stuff."

They didn't use any of the speed that makes them a good team. It's insane they had to go 7 with us considering the gap between the two teams last year that was on full display.

He already underwent the hip resurfacing (like Backstrom and Kane), and his eye injury was so bad, they nearly removed it. Right now, he can't dilate the eye.

He only skated 1 day in April, picture day for the Caps.

The guy is an absolute fitness freak (just remembering his stadium stair run habit), but both are too much for a player who will be 35 in August. Would welcome him with open arms in player development.

Hopefully he takes chytil under his wing and makes him a strong 2way center. Chytil has all the physical tools. His mind needs to be sharpened…. Or coached.

His playoffs took the shine off. Spent the whole Rangers series diving around doing nothing. Trouba wrecked him. Scored 1 goal all playoffs. He’s lucky Panarin stunk to take the heat off, lol.

Devils locked into a soft core forever. I’m sure the doomspreaders will tell me I should be scared of them but we gifted them the series then they got worked by a team with structure. They don’t hand out anything for that.

I 100% agree with this if he would sign one. I’d consider giving him a league minimum deal guaranteed if it’s needed. Waive him if it doesn’t work

I think Engvall is going to get term from somewhere. I could see his next deal totaling anywhere from 12-15m. 4-6 years. He’s young and some team is going to be okay paying him to be that complimentary piece.

I wouldn’t be opposed to giving more term in favor of a lower cap hit if it helped. 5 year at $2.75m? He’d be a UFA again at age 32.

I see Hathaway being a Ranger on July 1. He just fits a need. Hope Rangers can afford him. I would not mind Fast back but I doubt that happens. I’d love Tarasenko back but I doubt that happens unless he takes a team friendly deal to give it one more shot.

The Rangers cannot and should not be signing players like Hathaway and Fast if they want more than $1 million. Even if they have no intention of bringing back Tarasenko, it makes no sense to eat up valuable cap space in 3rd/4th line role players. Everyone has packed Goodrow’s bags and then you are immediately ready to go spend that freed up cash on similar players who have accomplished less…

Devils have way too many players making a ton of money that are bad in the playoffs. That’s going to be what kills them

I’d argue that it’s better for the team to swing for the fences on guys who have top-6 potential or d-men than fu us who project as 4th liners. The issue isn’t so much that they sign 4th liners in UFA, it’s who they have signed.

Vesey is a god example of what they should be doing. Go sign 5 guys who want to play in the NHL that can fill a role and let them compete. No one gets over $1m.
