Henrique I think they absolutely would consider it if someone out there would actually take that contract on. He's replaceable for far less.

Arvidsson, no.
I actually think they see it the other way, veteran center who can play down the line up v. a winger who's just not really producing.

Though I suspect they are moving neither.

You're honestly better off going with a cheaper forward add like Kostin given the costs involved and spending more on a goalie if that's what it boils down to. Goaltending is a more critical position in a playoff run, if we have to face Colorado or Vegas or if this is the year Winnipeg finally has their shit together under their new coach, we are going to be in massive trouble with the tandem we have.

I don't buy it. I think the Oilers need to find a way to get back some of their secondary scoring and improve their PK.

I think the Oilers need an upgrade on their 3rd string/minor league affiliate in case someone gets hurt or one of their games goes completely off the rails.

I understand that it's not a popular argument, but there's a very reasonable chance that in the instance you make that big goalie move, those other areas don't improve and you end up with similar results.

Addressing the goaltending doesn't necessarily fix the goaltending. As indicated by the RV and Skinner signings. How are Draisaitl's wingers this year?

We still have to compete against the teams in our conference who are adding at the deadline. Status quo means we'd be walking into the playoffs with a weaker roster, just a different goalie.

The acquisition cost. The cost of long-term is significant, if you're suggesting it's notable.
I mean, if you look at what Anaheim has asked for to take on big salaries, it hasnt been much

There's nothing tangibly proving that. And there's no guarantee that your solution to the problem ultimately solves it.

You have to give yourself other outs. You need to find ways to improve your depth in multiple areas.

In terms of the NMC situation, yeah, that's f***ed. That's probably who you don't hand the keys to a player agent days before the draft and FA signing period.
There definitely is tangible proof of that and the eye test matches it too. The media has even talked about it but have tried not to blame skinner.
When every chance goes in, guys stop playing and start thinking. They grip their sticks they don’t play their game they play scared OR they take too many unneeded chances offensively in hopes to outscore the issues.

I agree...there are a lot of things to consider with a goalie.

That being said Gibson has not been very good for a long time...not just during the Dallas Eakins years.
our best bet would be a golaie that doesnt speak a lick of english to not let schwartz make him worse

I think a lot of us believed (hoped?) they actually had a plan this offseason and then heading into the season. Unless Stan can work some magic the next few days it really seems like they had no f***ing clue what they were actually doing and were just shitting in one hand and wishing in the other.

f*** me, get gifted 2 generational players and just completely f*** them at almost every single turn with pure incompetence.

100% but I think it's the principle of handing out NMC's that frustrated people and rightfully so.
Yep. It inhibits the team to make moves that may be available. Like let’s say you have the opportunity to upgrade on Arvidsson and Henrique cause you are getting a great deal for a guy. But their cap is an issue. You now lose out because you can’t move them.

It's a lot harder to be a GM in Winnipeg, Chevy leaves all these Oiler GMs in the dust. The Oilers have generational talents, state of the art facilities and now have playoff success. This should be one of the easiest jobs in the league quite frankly, Chia, Holland and now JJ/Bowman got handed a plate of gold and turned it into I wouldn't say shit necessarily but gold with a lot less luster.
If the Oilers had Cheveldayoff from 2015 on, we're talking multiple Cups but instead we're talking about only one year in a decade with a win beyond the 2nd round. Pathetic
Fools gold.

The Oilers are going to have a tough time adding players next season as well with Arvid and Henrique not being movable and Draisaitl and Bouchard raises kicking in. Leaving us with 4M to make any changes outside of Jeff Skinner coming off the books

Get a goalie, add Kostin and Frederic, play Savoie in the top 6 and make the underperforming players sit now and then and don't keep forcing them into the top 6.

Honestly it’s hard to really have a solid plan when your GM wasn’t here for the start of it.

To the question in the offseason after losing game 7 in the finals "Who is going to put the Oilers over the top?"

The Oilers management answer apparently was "Viktor Arvidsson"

I think Jackson is just incredibly arrogant to boot. He probably handed out all these nmc because he thought he built a dream team. I also think that trading a 1st round pick for a #32 pick is incredibly arrogant as well. No planned exit ramps in case things went bad.

We'll have a wee bit more than $4m. But there's a pretty big RFA that needs to be signed.

This guy is a nobody but he does work for Edmonton Sports Talk who do have connections to the team. Skip the last minute where he says an Oiler has requested a trade. I wonder if it's skinner

Which Skinner though is my question (I can’t listen/view it, at work so forgive me if it’s specified in the video). The right answer is either one, but I’d prefer Stu, but I doubt he would.

No he does. It was discovered this morning that RV and Henrique also have NMC.
OMG. I jumped into the last page here and missed that. What an epic failure of a management team. All three forwards signed with no movement clauses. One was bought out so that he couldn’t play for the sabres of all teams. Another coming off a season nearly lost to injury. We would have been much better off matching Holloway than either of them. At least with Holloway there was flexibility. Not to mention extra cap… This ruined my day. Fack.

Fools gold.
Perfect description or should we say, fools that were handed gold.

Chia is really the worst of them, this guy had McDavid, Draisaitl, a prime Hall and Eberle, Nurse and a treasure chest of picks and just about turned it into dust. Holland, for all his faults, did a commendable job of building it back up after the shitpile Chia left him, Holland's drafting is actually a bit underrated in retrospect, then JJ sort of tore it all down again. Letting Holloway go is the one that's really killing me, I loved that kid, and the Oilers could have had this major bargain for the next 2 years at 2.2m. Major ugh on that one.

I also see that Gibson has an additional year and would be their second slot taken up next season.

The Oilers are not on a strong position to win that trade.

So what. Skinner isn't a starting goalie. If we want someone half way decent we are going to have to pay up.

We could have been smart and did what Colorado did (picked up Blackwood for an affordable price of a 2nd round pick) but once again this org insists on being the smartest bozo in the room.
