Character issues are so overblown in the NHL. It’s not like the guy participates in drive by shootings during the weekend for fun
I'd agree in most cases, but not in this one. Based on all available information, Ho-Sang appears to be a very difficult player. It is hard to coach, mentor, teach a player who wants to blame everyone else for their shortcomings.

That's fine I'd just rather claim someone who I believe is worthy of minutes instead.

There is something to be said for a known quantity vs. unknown. Rangers obviously feel comfortable with Haley and what his potential role will be. A waiver pickup may not be as comfortable sitting in the press box for 70% of the season and want NHL playing time.

Ugly bottom 6. Hoping we claim someone.

I mean, I think a Lemieux-Andersson-Namestnikov third line is probably pretty solid especially for where we are as a team.

And if Howden isn't in the AHL, he's gotta be somewhere. Therefore him and Fast on the 4th line is as nice as you can hope. A waiver claim replaces McKegg, that's the only real spot I see for a tangible and practical upgrade.

Really the two spots you want to change are 2C by swapping Strome for an upgrade, and at 4C by swapping out existing Howden for better Howden.

Gorts saying all the right things.

Chytil and Kravtsov didn’t have spots in the top 9 so rather have them get big mins in Hartford.

Wants Chytil at center

Lindgren knocking on the door will be a first call up. (Probably as soon as someone kills Hajek)

Maybe. But this is a guy that multiple teams had on a do not draft list, a guy that the Islanders AHL coach called a baby and immature. Which is fine. Some players grow out of that. But I think Ho-Sang's issues run deeper than that. He fails to accept responsibility. Anytime there is an issue Ho-Sang blames someone else. This isn't a Tony DeAngelo situation where I think most (not all) of the headcase concerns were largely overblown.

The Rangers aren't going to undo all the work they have done to draft, develop and sign guys with outstanding character by putting in a claimer for a guy that, based on what I have read, is the very definition of locker room cancer.

At at the same time, who is that coach? Is he sound? What was the problem?

I have no idea. But I do know that the Islanders has really had an worthless approach from the get go. Players that are outspoken often have a bad self esteem. I have no problem with discipline, but when they cut him from camp instantly after over sleeping they humiliated him tremendously in public. And after that there has just been a looooong line of more of the same crap, calling him out in public and humiliating him.

I listened to a few interviews with him, he sounds like a good guy. I am sure he has issues, but I don’t know...

I don't mind strome getting a look at 2c for now, but I'm sure chytil will be back up and in that position soon enough. And hopefully when he comes back up they can stop bouncing him around between winger and center. He seems more comfortable to me in the center position.

If strome can't keep up with kakko and kreider then chytil might be back before the end of october. If strome does enough to hang around then we got some good trade bait and if he exceeds expectations then good for us we just found a 2c. If not, chytil gets a lot of playing time and starts to heat up in the ahl and comes in hot.

What I’m saying is at the end of the day, the Rangers didn’t give up on drafting any player of significant value with those picks.

I think the problem was not the dealing the late firsts, but we had no prospect pool to fall back on before dealing the firsts.
Without knowing who they would've selected (and there's obviously no way of knowing that) it's hard to say.

Moot point tho... those days are long gone

Has anyone actually reported an SPC for Haley? Obviously the implication is that he'll be receiving one, but I hadn't seen anything.

Well they closed the camp thread, so I guess we talk about the final cuts here?

Quinn had some tough decisions, and I wouldn't put too much into who made it or not. The difference between those who stayed or who didn't, isn't that big a deal.

I like that Quinn went with the tough gritty players to start. They played well and made a good showing this preseason. They drew penalties, scored, gained zone time, and cycled well,... so good for McKegg, Haley, Lemieux and others. Can't underestimate the importance of our 4th and 3rd liners.

Quinn also reduced the number of youngsters this team will carry. This was a necessary part of the process. He has 3 rookies, and 2 sophomores to start the season. And one of these rookies already looks like a seasoned pro (Fox) on D. So Quinn did good job in limiting the learning curve and all those mistakes that go with that.

I had a feeling Quinn would go this way. This team is so young, you can't have that many rookies and 2nd year players to worry about at one time.

We are still weak up the middle, and that will be clearly evident if Zibanejad doesn't remain healthy. Namestnikov has looked good this preseason and should get a look at center, I suppose.

Would rather see Names as 2C than Strome. With Kreider and Kakko, hopefully builds trade value. Frees up LW for Lemieux and McKegg, lefties. Strome and Fast can play their natural side.

I'm not upset that we sent Kravtsov, Chytil, and Lindgren down. Knoblauch down in Hartford should do a good job preparing them from the NHL. We'll see all three sooner rather than later, IMO. I'm also not upset with Haley being signed. He'll be up in the press box with Smith most nights (assuming there are no injuries).

I probably wouldn't claim Ho-Sang, but I would put serious consideration in claiming Daniel Sprong and having him play over McKegg.
