Based on what he's done in the past, he's terrible there at 2C. Maybe he can suddenly take a big step but there's really nothing that he's done so far that indicates that he's capable of playing that position well. He's 26 and broke 40 points once 5 years ago.

he was a .5 ppg guy last yr playing with slugs and @ 15 mins per night.

playing with CK and KK and more minutes i think hell be fine or more than fine.

head to head with brett howden last year, stromes metrics are better. CF% and oZF% no contest.

same with chytl comparison. strome atleast as good there better than both 5v5 and +/-

whether he can produce well shall see, but no question in my mind hes got the experience and smarts, the size, the wheels and the offensive ability to play 2C mins.

If Kakko does what he’s capable of (and I don’t think we’ve seen him really open it up outside of game 1 of preseason) it won’t matter who’s centering him. Just need a guy capable defensively that will get him the puck.

Feelin' good on a Wednesday
Here are the players taken with the Ranger's firsts when they didn't have one:
2013: Kerby Rychel
2014: Josh Ho-Sang
2015: Anthony Beauvillier
2016: Dennis Cholowski

When you're building and drafting at the top of the draft it's all good, but when you're a contender who gives a **** about 1sts.
Ehhh that doesn't mean we would've picked those players... I get your point but we were largely in a bad state due to dealing 1st CONSTANTLY

Land of no calls..
Sprong, the guy everyone used to kill the Gropp pick. Not that Gropp doesn't suck, but still.

I'm definitely one of them. I was definitely a big fan of Sprong leading up to the draft and was pretty ticked off when they passed on him. I still think there's potential there but not sure where he'd fit on this roster.

What I’m saying is at the end of the day, the Rangers didn’t give up on drafting any player of significant value with those picks.

I think the problem was not the dealing the late firsts, but we had no prospect pool to fall back on before dealing the firsts.

It's kind of the wrong time for the Rangers to be looking at guys like that, we have bigger talents with some of the same issues starting off in the AHL. Maybe Ho-Sang can be recast as a bottom six cycle guy, but I doubt Sprong can.

Ho-Sang is not the kind of player I want on this team and I would be surprised if JD and JG feel differently.

Would not call McKegg or Haley capable fourth liners, I don't think either of them are NHLers imo.
I must have looked at the wrong lines, I thought we were looking at McKegg and Fast as the fourth line wings. My bad. Yeah, Haley is borderline at best. McKegg I think is an NHL fourth liner.

Umm ok

And you watched his preseason?
Is there a point to this

He was a nobody until the second half of last season where he had some hustle shifts on the 4th line. He's been absolute crap defensively his whole career and only doesn't have that reputation because he hustles. He's also a mediocre PKer and has no offense to speak of whatsoever.

Anthony Mantha and Shea Theodore were taken within 7 picks after Rychel in 2013
Adrian Kempe was taken the pick after Ho-Sang in 2014
Sebastian Aho and Travis Dermott were taken within 6 picks after Beauvillier in 2015
2016 is still early to say anything definitive.
Theres still a lot of good players in the late first/ early second.

Is Rykov only here because he is hurt or will he play any games early this season and does Lindgren replace him when Rykov is healthy to be sent to Hartford? That is my thinking

Sounds like he's being put on SOIR

NHL CBA FAQ - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

If a player who is on a two-way contract becomes disabled during training-camp or who reports to training-camp disabled as the result of a hockey related injury incurred during the off-season, they can be placed on season-opening injured reserve, to possibly obtain cap relief. It is notable that the SOIR equations are not the same as the daily rate equations in CBA 15.6, which is instead used to calculate the players daily salary (as opposed to cap hit).
