I keep wondering if that #4 pick is gettable. I mean, if the Avs go on a nice little run here in the POs, and prove they're close, what's better for them, a high pick who might be ready to contribute in a meaningful way ~3 years down the line? Or a package that includes immediate help for McKinnon while he's dead, square in his window? Something like Kreider, Pionk, and the Winnipeg pick for #4OA? Or how about Kreider + Skjei straight up for the pick?

They would want Zibanejad.

I do think it's gettable, but it's going to hurt. No one is giving away the 4th pick in a deep draft.
I mean, if the Rangers weren't rebuilding, then either Kreider+Pionk+WPG pick or Kreider+Skjei would hurt. Arguably as much as Zibanejad by himself.

It's only because the team knows it's not competing next year, and likely the one after that, as well, that you would make such an offer.

I think Zibanejad would entice them the most due to position need and his contract.

I have a hard time seeing the Avs moving it. They're playing well right now but they live and die by that 1st line and need talented depth at both forward and on defense. If they could get a really, really good top-six center with term of the right age for the pick? Maybe. Would they be interested in Zibanejad? Yeah I'm sure they would, but they could also keep the pick and add a high-end talent while signing Hayes to be a "good enough" option on the second line. I think Sakic is going to continue to take things slow.

That all being said, they can't draft for shit outside of the top-10. They haven't had a guy taken below #10 play any meaningful minutes for them since Ryan O'Reilly. I could see them moving their own pick for more immediate help, and maybe Skjei is appealing for them with a package around that pick. If they think Hayes is a potential fit, adding his buddy Kreider is a nice selling point and he helps their top-six.

From the Rangers perspective, moving Zibanejad for a high draft pick is a lateral move at best if you think Zib is the player he showed this year. Best case you draft a center who is maybe a small notch above him, but he likely takes a few years to get there. Now, if the Rangers think they're selling high on Zibby that's another story, but I think they really like him as a foundational piece going forward. He gives Kravtsov or Kakko, or both, a really talented center to break in with and insulates any other kids behind him down the middle.

I don’t see them dropping from 4 all the way down to 22.

I was, but Uncle jas and @Edge showed me a different standpoint. I can now see the plan coming into place.

Yes, but I think this is a good thing.

To me, somebody who doesn't change opinions is uninformed and close-minded. It's perfectly healthy to change your opinion with new research, different viewpoints, different conversations.

The only time it's bad is when you change your opinion solely based on who you're with to try and fit in with the crowd.

Also, my underwear is fresh af.
The great British economist John Maynard Keynes was once accused of changing his position on an issue, and his response was (call it a paraphrase as I'm going off memory) "when given new information I sometimes change my mind. What do you do?"

He's also the guy that when asked about the long term impact of some policy or other "in the long run we are all dead". You win some you lose some.

We don't necessarily need two top-six centers... 1. they're looking at contention with the Rubix Cube clusterf*** on D for AT LEAST 2 years. 2. this team went to the ECQF with Erik Christensen as no. 1...

Actually, that was his response to people during the depression who didn't want government to try to do anything to stimulate the economy. They insisted that, in the long run, everything would just work itself out. Keynes felt that by the time that happened it would be too late to help most people.

I like how you throw Pionk in as if he would have any value in that sort of trade

Watching the playoffs this year has actually been fun cause I'm not stressed out watching the Rangers. But a few things have popped out to me. 1 - I really don't want us trading Kreider for a guy like Trouba. And I don't think Karlsson is a good move. He seems to be dealing with lots of nagging injuries all the time and I think it's because he's overcompensating for the ankle still. I just don't see that contract aging well. And I'm not sure there will be any amnesty buyouts in the next bargaining agreement. Not unless the cap is going down again. If we trade Kreider it's gotta be for 2 or 3 young assets/picks. And I think one of those assets could be the 8OA from the Oilers. But the question is, assuming the pick is the centerpiece of the deal -- who would have to be there or fall to 8 for the Rangers to pull the trigger? Podkolzin? Zegras? Boldy? I could see a deal being Kreider for 8OA + Yamamato or Cooper Marody. Or maybe better, the oilers have 2 third round picks. Maybe snag their early pick 3rd rounder and then flip that for Adam Fox. So, the deal becomes kredier for Boldy and Fox. or similar.

people are getting greedy. We're not getting another top 10 pick.
If we played our chips right we can. Bye bye Kreider. Oilers need to pull a Columbus and start bringing in talent. How long are they going to rebuild? Same with Buffalo. Both of those teams should be all over Kreider on Draft Day.

For as much as I love size, this is pretty much an assinine statement. So if you had the first pick, would you pass on Hughes?

Have you ever heard of a recent Ranger? Let me see....who was it.....some dude named Zucc, I think.

# WeNeverGetaGoodPlayer

1. I reported you as a troll, you blatantly are trolling me with your hashtags
2. Zucc was drafted #1 overall? He was not drafted at all. And Zucc is not afraid of hits in fact he hits plenty, while the Hughes brothers are very elusive and hard to hit is some junior leagues, they won't be as elusive in NHL, I saw the highlights of them and it is going to be short and painful NHL careers for those 2 with their brand of hockey.

he gets hit right there on that play, so much for being elusive and getting hit only 5 times in his NHL career.

What's your point? The kid took the hit to make the play. That's a good thing. If the guy shied away from contact and looked scared to play, it'd be an issue... but it really doesn't look like that, does it?

I think that it's potentially possible because the Rangers have THAT many pieces. With that said, it'll hurt. It's not going to just be Kreider to move into the top 10. Also, people are starting to get greedy asking for 4OA and that is def not happening.

Would you trade an 8th overall pick in a deep draft for an impending free agent when you have no realistic chance to compete? When you have very little talent beyond your top 2-3 players and little cap room to make changes? Do you see any world where Kreider, a guy who has played his entire college/pro careering the northeast, and facing unrestricted free agency resigning in Edmonton?

There is no chance Edmonton makes that trade straight up, much less adds to it.
