Jack Hughes, Lias Andersson for Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser. I feel STUPID even typing this. Not happening.

The latest Bob McKenzie's podcast. He posted it yesterday because of Good Friday. The Rangers want to be aggressive this summer. He said the same things last year. Bob brought up Panarin. He also said Panarin is a stronger possibility to the Panthers with Queeneville in Miami. If the Rangers don't get Panarin, who are they getting? It's not a great free agent market. Earlier in the podcast, he said the Wings want to be aggressive too. They aren't planning a 5 to 7 year rebuild. The Rangers are in the same boat. The Rangers rebuild will be entering a second full season. Nobody wants a 5 year rebuild. It shouldn't take 5 years. It will take more than 2 years.

He was asked about the Rangers trading Kreider? Bob said the Rangers were all ears on Kreider at the deadline. Gorton doesn't have any untouchables. He is open minded.

Someone asked about Yzerman and the Wings. Bob said everyone in the hockey world believes Yzerman will end up in Detroit in some capacity working with Holland who has just one season left on his contract. Apparently, Yzerman has seen every top player in this draft. The feeling is Yzerman is getting familiar with the young players in the draft for when he takes joins the Wings. TB won't have a top pick in this draft so why did he spend so much time looking at every top player? For a guy who wanted to spend more time with his family, he spent a lot of time scouting players outside of TB's pick.

@Alluckks

Yeah, facts are that NYR have never — or? — had that real ‘bring the fans out of their seats’ type of player in his prime. Kakko isn’t that guy either, Kakko may be much more valuable, or not, but Hughes is really exciting to watch even if you don’t know hockey. Always buzzing.

I am fairly sure that we will get Kakko and not Hughes. If I am the Devils it has to make a lot of sense to get that 1-2 Hughes/Hirscher punch. One is a little more responsible than the other, one is a bit more loose cannon, but in a good way. They have Hall at RW. Could be an exciting season for them next year, get Hall to resign there.

But you never know, Kakko can play center. He is a real winner.

If we get Hughes, I would be really excited. More so than Kakko. Then you go get Caufield. Lias would be perfect in a more defensive role next to those two. I just think it’s easier for us to make a team complete around Hughes than around Kakko. But both is fine.

I actually think it should be a three way race with Turcotte in the race, but I am not going there. Even I have limits for how much I can disturb the peace at this place... ;)

A few more McKenzie Rangers related notes. The Devils are taking Hughes. The Rangers are taking Kakko. They are not going off the board. Kakko is their pick.

The goaltending situation will be sorted out by their play. The Rangers have Lundqvist and the two young Russians. We will see what happens.

Vancouver has known since before that Petterson draft Gorton has coveted him. You don't come calling about a pick for Hughes without expecting EP to be Gorton's demand. Franchise wing for franchise center that shared a bathroom growing up with your defenseman. Demanding Petterson makes us the least weird side in this equation.

It's not happening regardless, Hughes will be in Jersey. But I'm confident either Kakko or EP are rangers next season.

Georgiev is Bulgarian. Brooks made the same mistake in his article last week.

This is going to be the easiest pick the Rangers have ever made. There's a clear Top-2 in this draft. NYR pick whichever one is left over, which is likely Kakko.

Gorton should be all ears on Kreider. Ive said this a few times, if your not interested in signing Panarin you should be interested in resigning Kreider unless it's some sort of sweet heart deal, which is extremely unlikely.

Thank whoever you want that the Rangers didn't cave and sign him for 7.5M/season. <whew>
I mean, I think a lot of that was his agent whispering in his ear. I forget the exact quote, but it was something like "The Rangers pay UFAs, but expect family to take less."

Juxtapose that with Zuccarello, who has always been willing to take a discount, both in term and AAV, to be where he wants to be.

With that being said, I don't begrudge players trying to milk every last cent out of their contracts. They have a very limited amount of time to cash in, and some of them are permanently damaged by the time they wash out of the league. I just think Callahan's agent didn't do him any favors by leaking shit to the press.

Being born in Bulgaria, doesn't necessarily make you Bulgarian. It gives you the option to become a Bulgarian citizen, but Georgiev has the Russian nationality

The situation is comparable to Robyn Regehr. He's not a Brazilian citizen either, despite being born there.

Yep. Pretty sure he’s got dual citizenship.

The Devils are taking Hughes. It’s pretty simple. You get fired for picking Kakko at #1 and getting it wrong. If you pick Hughes and get it wrong you still get the benefit of the doubt.

Which pretty much echoes what Valiquette said.

Even if the Devils thought the differences between Hughes and Kakko were negligible, it's hard to against the guy who's been in that top spot for several years.

Having said, when 100 percent of scouts surveyed keep saying that Hughes is tops, I really do wonder just how close it is.

I don't see why Canucks would be desperate to unite the Hughes brothers before either has even played in NHL. But if they are then the trade with the Devils makes a lot more sense. No more reason to discuss the Canucks trading for 2nd overall.

No elite game changing players like Panarin are available next season or the following season at a younger age, Hall is next season but I’m more impressed with Panarin. Backstrom too, but he’s 32 and I would imagine him staying, I just feel as if Panarin is the most attractive UFA piece in recent years being the age he is and how much more productive season after season he gets despite the lackluster environment.
