Devils fan coming in peace. Just out of curiosity let's say a scenario happened where Montreal takes Slafkovsky (the pick we really want) would you guys trade Lafreniere for our 2nd overall pick? I know this trade will never happen because rangers & devils never trade with each other but it would give you guys a top talent center.

No

I think I've seen you share some of their stuff before, but do you happen to have Evolving Wild's contract projections for Motte?
Athletic has him at $1.3M value but that's for this past years production

I think Evolving Hockey has him at 4 years $2.45M... seems high

4x2M for Motte is great. The deal we should have given Fast.

Panarin Zibs Kakko
Laffy Copp Kravtsov
Kreider Chytil Blais
Motte Goodrow Reaves/Hunt/Brodz

that's what my depth chart looks like.

Still think we're lacking 1 more 2way component. If we could upgrade Chytil at 3C and then move him to RW would be the optimal route

The close-up of Laf in the penalty box after he took the high sticking penalty caught my attention a little bit. He had not played a ton, but was chipping for air on the bench. These guys has a lot of growing potential not only in terms of maturing their game, but also physically.

Not a chance

I mean you absolutely can.
I think 2015 mcd was playing on a broken foot.
He played through it, but he was a shell of himself.
Guys play through things but sometimes the injuries hit the more important players and there’s really no other answer other than it sucks.
It falls on deaf ears.

Healthy enough to play, I'm not interested in hearing about the injury as the cause for shitty play.

It's a BS excuse

Not be insulting or anything, but trading the 1st overall for the 2nd overall doesn't seem like a smart move. I'm sure Dolan's eyeballs would roll into the back of his head if Drury pulled something like that off with the Devils of all teams.

There's a better chance of trading Panarin than there's trading Laffy. He is the cornerstone of this generation. He will be the Captain. His number will be retired in 20 years.

If our RW wasn't so weak, I'd say Kakko may become available.... but slotting Chytil and Othmann at RW can chage that. Kravtsov sticking as well.

Fox and Panarin overpaid :sarcasm:

I'm being facetious but I still think we could have gotten Fox cheaper. It is what it is.

I can't wait to see Seattle or Ottawa give Strome 7x7

As others have said, it’s a no from us but… you did come in peace so I figured I’d give a more in depth answer.

I get your logic entirely with asking… Devils could use some high end wingers for Jack and Nico and the Rangers need that young top six cost controller center. Additionally Laf hasn’t lit the world on fire, so it’s certainly a reasonable question. In reality, it may even be a move that would be smart for the Rangers long term. However, Laf keeps showing us just enough to keep our hopes really high and is a very likable kid with future leader written all over him and has brought a decent game in the playoffs, showing to be one of the few guys who will mix it up. Even so… he hasn’t lit the world on fire and if Wright pans out as even a 70 point center one day, it’s probably a smart trade for the Rangers. But when you factor in the Devils aspect of it and the possibility for Laf to haunt us for moving him, plus the overall animosity between the teams and the rarity of moving a #1OA so early in their career… there’s just no way I could see it happening.

But I will give you full credit for asking a question that honestly could make sense in several ways, under different circumstances.

Yes. That's why it's so great to see they are our best line already. In 2 years they should be so much stronger yet.

Easy now

I'm not even 100% sure Fox's number will be retired yet.

Let's swing back to the "First line forward" level optimism.

Kreider needs to get the sandpaper back in his game. He was a more physical player when he entered the league. we need more physical forwards in the top 6. Still too soft and not great along the boards and in the playoffs board work matters. Winning those 50 50 battles. Rangers are not strong enough to win board battles. The playoffs is showing that
Would a new strength coach help or just a mandate to listen to the strength coach?

i will happily eat crow if i'm wrong, but i don't like a Copp resigning. i just can't see that ending well with his injury history and poor skating as it is. we need speed down the middle, this guy can barely stand half the time.
another problem being that this team has enough dead cap space as it is, and it's a problem if we sign him and still have the same problems.

He's not a poor skater. He has 1 good leg. He's great in transition.

Watching the last few games, it feels like the imperative need is speed.

Carolina's speed only enhances their defensive game and our guys have a tough time finding space.

For defense, I'm just wondering what Drury has planned. I'm hoping it means Nemeth is out. I wouldn't mind Braun back to serve as a reliable 7th D, but I'd like to see Jones, Robertson, and a younger UFA like Sami Niku or Sebastian Aho battling it out for the 3LD spot in camp.
