so much for puck management.

Is it our system?
No puck support?
laziness/effort?

I think you all need to dig deeper on these stats. Who matched up against Panarin? Who on the opposing teams had the most takeaways? What zone were these takeaways in? Is Panarin constantly getting double teamed? Where does Panarin rank in takeways/60? What is the +/- of offensive zone takeaways and giveaways? Like I don't know gets counted. The stats might just point to Panarin having a lot of back and forth exchanges in the o-zone. Or it might show he's giving the puck away with risky passes. Or how many are because he passed the puck to Nemeth and Nemeth just missed the puck and an opposing player "took it away" and Panarin got stuck with the GvA?

This board will be impossible when the Rangers get knocked out. The Rangers made their deals. The long-term contracts will be difficult to move even if the Rangers had the ability to deal them. These players are here. Figure out a way to work around them.

The giveaway stat for everyone on the rangers is off because of G1 against Pittsburgh. The rangers were credited with SEVENTY FIVE giveaways. Four or five guys had at least 8. It’s obviously incorrect and just a bad job by the scorekeeper.

In game 2 they had 23. In game 3 they had 5. In game 4 they had 4. In game 5 they had 34. In game 6 they had 3. In game 7 they had 4.

What’s the common theme? Whoever was the official scorer at MSG in games 1,2,5 lost their mind. Those aren’t reasonable numbers so even referencing the stat is pointless

It was clear Reaves would be locked into the lineup when his contract was immediately extended for no reason

In season he serves a purpose . If this team was healthy w Goodrow and Blais he would be sitting

Next year you add at the deadline again

I think we can find players who serve a purpose that can do it without having the number one worst xGF% in the league among forwards with 500+ minutes (387 players).

I’ll say the same thing that I said earlier - those questions become irrelevant when Panarin’s giveaway number is so far removed from the pack and so much larger than any other player of his caliber over the past several years. Also, those questions seem kind of useless when we can answer them pretty easily by watching the games. This isn’t a massive sample size where one can’t reasonable remember HOW Panarin accumulated all of those turnovers. It’s 9 games. He has 23. They aren’t from “passing it to LOL Nemeth”. They aren’t from driving the play in the attacking zone. They’re horrible, lazy turnovers that show he’s unwilling to play good fundamental hockey. Getting challenged at the blueline? Hmmm I could make sure the puck gets deep or I could try a spinning no-look behind the back pass to no one. That’s a move that accounts for at least 4-5 of the turnovers because he does it repeatedly. Dangling at your own blueline and getting stripped? That’s another couple.

By the way, compared to his 23 giveaways in 9 games… he has 6 takeaways, good for 111th per 60.

I’m not sure how this is even arguable to anyone who watches this team regularly.

He's not getting the toughest matchups.

He's been poor. Miles below what Panarin is actually capable of.

There's no need to dig further. This is the worst he's ever looked as a New York Ranger and most likely as a NHL player.

It’s evident that the main things this team is missing are: speed, good forechecking, and face off wins.

Who fits this mold? I honestly don’t think we should resign Copp. He’s way too slow and gets hurt often, look at him. Can barely skate right now.

I would love to get a Gourde type player. Speed is the biggest issue because they aren’t fast enough to get their own dump ins. It’s been a problem for a long time, it’s why we only have offense off the rush. No sustained pressure.

Stop referencing the turnover stat. It's meaningless. Different arenas track differently. Different areans bias different for home/road teams. If you think someone (Panarin) has a lot of turnovers that's fine but using the giveaway stat to prove your point does nothing.

Dude you only talk stats.

Ok. And I know which stats are good and which are bad. I'm telling you this one does not matter.

The stat is useless and insanely biased. Or it just so happens when you look at EVERY SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME played this year NYR/PIT just coincidentally happen to have spots 1-6 in giveaways all occurring in three games.

There were eleven games all season where a team was credited with 25+ turnovers and yet in the playoffs these scorers claimed it happened 6 times in 3 games in one series already (Yes, one of the games went to 3OT so we should expect more turnovers in that one...still the numbers are way out of line).

In fact the most turnovers ever credited in an NHL game was 43 by the Sharks in 2005. And these scorers are telling you two teams exceeded that in the same game. The most in the playoffs prior to this game was 38 by the Stars in 2008 so the numbers are massively out of line to other long OT games too. It's a nonsense stat.

Panarin is staying put. I hope he gets it together for the rest of our playoff run, but regardless it's pretty early to think he's in decline. Maybe next season removed from strome will help him get back to his play driving ways

I'd look at Kupari. Not that the Rangers will (too young and inexperienced) but he's an effortless skater that would be the best skater on the Rangers instantly. He doesn't fit with the troglodyte Kings at all.

Pitt saw this post and immediately resigned Rust at $5m per
I think they'd trade Kreider first. Panarin is too instrumental to their success... not that Kreider isn't, but it'd make the most sense to approach him before the NMCs... Triouba is nearly as much a piece... others can do what he does... not as well... but one of Arizona's firsts (assuming they have multiple) and Hayton.

Kreider needs to get the sandpaper back in his game. He was a more physical player when he entered the league. we need more physical forwards in the top 6. Still too soft and not great along the boards and in the playoffs board work matters. Winning those 50 50 battles. Rangers are not strong enough to win board battles. The playoffs is showing that

The kid line needs major minutes next year, plus more PP time for Laffy and Kaapo. Goodrow and Blais do not fix the top 6 issues we are seeing now.
Yes....but they will improve the bottom 6 and force Reaves to play a lot less games . Blais speed is a huge plus ...if he can stay healthy. Gauthier had his shot at that role this season but refused to play more physical and in all likelihood has played his last game here .

Team will be even better next with the kids taking another step and replacing Strome in the lineup

Would love to find a way to keep Motte and bring Stastny in

We're gonna dump Nemeth, either with a pick or prospect attached

Kreider Zib Laf
Panarin Copp Chytil
Motte Stastny Kakko
Blais Goodrow Reaves

Haven’t kept tabs on him since his draft, but maybe he could be a good buy-low option? Former first rounder

Pittsburgh gave Rust 6 years/$30.75M. $5.125M AAV. Would Copp take that deal? That would be a fair price for both sides. Copp turns 28 this July. The Rangers would probably prefer 4 or 5. years. McCann got $25M over 5. Hyman got $5.5M AAV for 7 years.

Danault. RNH. Rust. Hyman. There are SO MANY examples of guys taking these types of deals recently at about the same age with very similar production. Low $5's is the number.
