It’s evident that the main things this team is missing are: speed, good forechecking, and face off wins.
Who fits this mold? I honestly don’t think we should resign Copp. He’s way too slow and gets hurt often, look at him. Can barely skate right now.
I would love to get a Gourde type player. Speed is the biggest issue because they aren’t fast enough to get their own dump ins. It’s been a problem for a long time, it’s why we only have offense off the rush. No sustained pressure.
I'm very happy with how Chytil has looked these playoffs. I wouldn't be opposed to Copp 2C, move Chytil to winger and get a great faceoff/matchup 3C. Would Turcotte fit there? Or not reliable yet.Copp went up against Staal and held his own. He's a perfect middle6 Center for us He has more offense than Staal and IMO pairs perfectly with Panarin. Finish the line off with one of Kakko, Chytil or Laffy at RW... who knows, maybe even Othmann

Would love Goodrow and Motte on the 4th line that come up to defend leads.Barclay Goodrow can play that role. Sammy Blais or Othmann on that other wing. Doesn't necessarily have to be another add. I'd re-up Motte for line 4, find a cheap veteran 4th liner and ride that roster. You can find some of these guys for under a million per season (see Spezza in TOR, Perry and Bellemare in TB, Stepan in CAR)
Kreider Zibanejad Lafreniere
Panarin Copp Kakko
Blais Goodrow Chytil
Motte (Vet 4C) Trivigno/Hunt/Reaves

Motte 3-4 years / $1.85M
do it.
I would still bring back Copp & Motte. Their versatility lets everything else to fall in place. I foresee next years lines looking like:
Panarin-Mika-Kreider
Laf-Chytil-Kakko
Blais-Copp-Othmann
Motte-Goodrow-Reaves/Hunt
That looks like a really solid forward group if we can make the cap work.

Haven’t kept tabs on him since his draft, but maybe he could be a good buy-low option? Former first rounder
Kreider has earned a demotion
He's gonna end up playing 3rd line eventually anyway and he'll still be on PP1
No matter the lines tho, it is a solid group

fair enoughDumb take. You can be "ok to play" but not 100% and still better than the alternative options.
Yeah, I'm not expecting much here based on his North American performance, but considering how much turnover we're going to soon have in the organization, it seemed like a worthwhile idea to keep tabs on a former first rounder. Maybe a change of scenery will work out for him and he can find a role as a 3rd line winger if it all works out.Would love to get him for free, but getting him wouldn't be a 'big deal'. Don't really see him as a future NHLer.
I mean you absolutely can.fair enough
but then you can't use it when explaining the series loss either.
