Speculation: Roster Building Thread - Part XXXV

Trouba is the most important piece in the defensive unit right now. Do we not remember what we looked like when he went out last season?

He's a big game player as well.

KAM Trouba is our top pair. Our matchup line. We need to get a suitable partner for Fox

Kreider has really honed in on his training and diet, especially after his health woes. IF only he was given authority over the whole team

Doesn't Carolina have a army style fitness test? There's a reason they can attack for 3 periods.

Zibs is normally with Prentiss, he stayed in Sweden for the wedding.

Had a dream I was out at a wedding or party and my friend texted me the Rangers are getting killed. I look at the NHL app it's 10-4 Red Wings and I look at the goalies and was horrified to see it was Igor. Last time I had a dream like this they were in OT against the Flyers both teams put up a ton of goals and the Rangers won 8-3 the next day.

Lock up the over.

Actually I think Cuylle and Othmann will for sure be there because I think there is a contractual obligation for the prospects. I expect Nils, Jones and Robertson to be there for the summer as well. Would be awesome for Kreider to take Cuylle and Othmann.

I don’t know where this conversation comes from, but you only trade Trouba once Schneider proves he’s ready to take over his role, which has not been remotely the case this year.

Trouba is a unicorn and not many in here seem to understand that. This guy is 2nd in the league in blocked shots and 8th in hits, all while putting up 37 points this year so far(and only 4 of those points were on the Powerplay, since he doesn't play on PP1). We can't talk about "filling shoes" with this guy - that's an extremely unfair ask of any of our young Dmen. Trouba is part of the very core of this team, without a doubt.

I see a lot of over complicated roster moves which typically doesn’t happen. Would love to resign Vatrano and even Motte but we don’t have the cash along with signing Copp which I think is a bit of a necessity. Chytil and Lundkvist will be used to get an upcoming C. We’ll pay to get rid of Nemeth maybe in the form of Gauthier or Georgie’s rights. Flame away

Just curious but would anybody trade Lundkvist for a mid first round pick if there was a good center available to draft?

would another team value Lundkvist that much?

he just doesn’t seem to fit in our plans anymore, though I think he still will be a solid NHLer

Yes. I think if they could have done a prospect for prospect for a C they already would have.

Normally you'd trade him to bolster the contending window but they're so cap strapped they actually can't. All the guys they pay significant money are actually good and/or have NMCs. Lindgren's 3M is nothing, Nemeth's 2.5M is nothing.

Who is this mysterious ELC center who is better than Chytil that some other team will be willing to trade?

We have enough cap space to re-sign Copp. If we can move Nemeth, we should have enough to re-sign Vatrano. That's really all we need to do IMO. I like Motte, but we can't afford him and Vatrano, and Vatrano to me is the more important player.

I would seriously consider it, yes. The team where it may make some sense is a team like Seattle who has a hole in their prospect pool in the age range of 20-22 because they didn't exist. They have a boatload of 2nd rounders both this year and next year

If given the option, it's Vatrano, but I like the idea that is Vatrano prices himself out, the team could circle back on Motte.

Vatrano is a unique player for this team. He is a very good skater, straight-line guy, plays an underrated gritty game and likes to shoot. Most of that description is rare so far at forward. In saying that, he SHOULD fit in well on any of the top-3 lines moving forward and he's the type of guy who, if signed to an appropriate contract, could be traded in the future should a young player, say Othmann, push for time in NY and they need to create space.

Haven't you learned by now that the grass is always greener with prospects and that they're always sure fire bets to be better than proven NHL players?

Rangers don't really have to do much the next few years. Resign Copp, maybe find a way to get Vatrano in if they can clear enough room. I'm not sure I'd trade Chytil just to make room for Vatrano unless something great is coming back.

The work is finding a good backup and drafting centers. Between Othmann, Cullye, Berrard, and maybe a sleeper like Edstrom, Trivigno, Ruscheoff along with getting Kravstov on the varsity squad, they're fine at wing.

D they're in pretty good shape.

So if we have our 1st rder.....who would be available as a C prospect in the bottom half of the 1st?
