So I have seen some arguments about our team not being stacked. I'd like to disprove that with the notion that our team is really an anamoly. We have a chance to keep the fun train going for many years.
We have a 50 goal scorer, a ppg center, an over a ppg winger who elevates, a ppg winger in copp who is clicking with a 2nd line center in strome.
Chytil is playing great lately and hopefully doesn't get injured during the playoffs. If he does, then the guy is starting to become glass. Someone woll probably get injured during the playoffs. It always happens and i pray to god it doesnt, but should it be, we need to make sure we have the depth to survive. Kakko scored 2 and i think he will click with chytil. He has looked bogger since coming back. He trained a lot on skating. In the offseason i want him to work on speed.

We have a ppg defenseman- read that again- and a very heavy top pair of miller and trouba, both of which are meant for playoff hockey. One of whom is half a ppg defenseman and the other a .25 ppg defenseman. Fox- lindgren will start to get more rest before playoffs. Fox will be fox and we will bitch at lindgren, but the guy is still not bad. Hes not elite, but we have 3 of 4 in terms of an elite four.we have braun who was a top pair defender fighting for the bottom pair and schneider, who whilst making rookie mistakes, is playing exceptionally well for a 20 year old. Most dman take til at least 23 to crack a squad.

Shesty is the vezina favorite and even though, he is not as sharp right now, it's better he goes through the stretch as he gets used to less shots. Remember, shesty excels when we are getting outplayed badly and he is facing a crazy amount of sucessive shots. That hasn't really happened lately. He faced 25 against carolina for example. Don't give me metrics on goalies. There is only one that is maintstream and that's gsva, which he is the highest rank in. Either way, he also only has these moments for like 3 minutes where he is beatable. In a 7 game series, he will lock in by game 2. I promise you.

Playoff experience is a knock on our team. Even with the tdl acquisitions, we have only one cup winner in our ranks (goodrow who has been great btw, blais is done for the season) and that's fine. Our team is ready. We are 4th in the goddamn league. We deserve respect for our team. Im ready for the battle.

Give Hajek some games. Nemeth returned from his latest issues. Rotate Hajek into the mix to get Lindgren and KAM some rest before the playoffs. Braun allows them to sit Fox and Trouba in separate games.
I have no idea why they would dress Fox in a back to back against Philly who had 6 guys out and also on the back of a back to back....ideal time to rest Fox. Go figure.....

What’s the deal with Hartford? Will they make the playoffs?

If not, you’ll have 3 games at the end of the season where they’ll be able to call up some guys after the A season is over. Jones. Nils.

Sit the entire top 4 the last 2 games of the season.

Motte is done for the year, idk why they don’t just come out and say it. They talked around Rooney and Kakko’s injury and they were out like a third of the year
Gallant just came out and said it. the Lafreniere stuff is much stranger, like he nailed someone's wife. still the whole french disrimination?

Fox is allergic to the gym. I think the Norris and contract got to him and he felt he didn’t need to work hard. I hope this fall off is a wake up call.
Zibs will be with Kreider and Prentiss. We’ll see about the other kids.
I love takes like this where people have no idea what training regemine these guys have outside of social media posts. Fox is still young and living up to a Norris and trying to "do more" coupled with that injury around the all star break that was clearly nagging him has affected his game. Fox's problems have been bad decisions which he never showed in his rookie year. If you think he is going to turn into a 5"11 215 lb horse by going to the gym in the summer more I got a cold dose of reality for you.

I spent time with Prentiss this summer lol. It's not a take. Even Fox's buddies from World Juniors talked about how he was too busy going on golf trips and didn't want to train.

My "take" is after winning the Norris and getting paid he decided he didn't need to work hard in the offseason.

Do you live in his head too? Good thing what makes Fox elite has nothing to do with physical skills. Gretzky looked like a dude off the street. It's how he processed the game faster than anyone else that made him who he was.

I'm not going to spend the time tearing down this entire post. I'll just add two points here.

1. Saying it's not a stretch to have your highly touted kids make NHL debuts at some point is one thing. Throwing them to the wolves on a team that will be expected contend for the cup next year by tossing 3 rookies into the lineup in minutes that were eaten by high quality veterans the prior season is another. This is the kind of shit Edmonton and Buffalo do and we've seen the results.

2. I kinda can't get over the fact that you're really penciling in guys who have limited, or in Robertson's case zero NHL experience and just assuming that it's going to lead to roughly the same results as this year. Trouba is one of the most important players on this team. I realize he might be overpaid but it is inarguable that he plays a gigantic and critical role on this team and is a huge reason for their success this year. Do you recall what the team looked like when he was taken out of the lineup at the end of last year?

The Rangers have done wonderfully with developing recent defensive prospects (Miller, Fox, Lindgren, Schneider) and what you're suggesting is to throw that patient plan out the window and go to a sink or swim narrative when it's completely unnecessary. Next year we should dump Nemeth and slot in Jones. Perhaps mid-season, or after next year, if all goes well, we can dump Lindgren and bring another rookie along. What you want to do is completely tear down an upper echelon defense and replace it with a bunch of unproven prospects.

The only change in the top 4 is Schneider in for Trouba and Schneider is already in the process of proving he can handle an increased role. It’s a downgrade but it’s offset by the improved forward depth we can afford.

The bottom pair is no different in quality than this year.

Arthur Staple answered reader questions for a mailbag feature. He wrote a couple of opposing players told him they believe Fox is playing injured. Fox got injured in late January against Columbus. Staple knows the Islanders players very well. Maybe they gave him that information. The Rangers have played the Islanders twice since Fox got injured.

Staple also wrote this about Kakko

Asked a longtime European scout about Kakko not too long ago. Here’s part of his answer on Kakko and high Euro draft picks who come straight to the NHL in their teens: “It’s not even a question that Europeans should be kept in Europe for X number of years. We’re in a world where expectations of entry-level players on your team because of the cap blinds us to kids’ development track. … We put them in environments they’re not prepared for, get frustrated with them, they lose their confidence. We need to be better students of history at times.”

He also spoke about the Rangers (not his employer) having a bit of a track record recently with European draft picks and the push/pull of when to bring them over and how to handle them once they’re here. Kakko isn’t in the Lias Andersson/Kravtsov track — he’s been an eager presence — but he’s still only 21.

The Rangers need to be patient here.

Othmann gonna force his way onto this team out of camp next year. Laffy will have to shift to RW full time, where he has shown he can play well.

I don’t agree with either of these things. Othmann should also not make the team if he is going to be stuck in bottom six because we’ve seen this story before. I don’t think the Rangers can develop Lafreniere and Kakko at the same time, let alone all three of them at the same time. Trying to recreate another kid line shows the Rangers have learned not nothing. Nobody that has a say in things thinks Lafreniere is a RW either. He hasn’t shown any consistency there and got dropped for Vatrano who isn’t a world beater but certainly doesn’t have Lafrenieres pedigree either.

My big issue isn’t necessarily talent, it’s that a lot of these pieces don’t fit together right now and adding Othmann to that mix; another talented winger with skating issues makes this worse. It’s very obvious that the right compliment for Kreider and Zibanejad is a straight line sped guy who has a shot that can threaten. That’s no one on the team besides Vatrano (and I kind of like the idea of Chytil there). Panarin? Who knows what that line is going to look like, but frankly I’m very uneasy extending Copp - who I like - without seeing him center there. Need to keep the team sensible. We shouldn’t start the clock on Othmann until he is in a position to succeed. I’m not convinced he would be by next year

Thanks to back to back shutouts, the Rangers are now 2nd in the league in goals against average at 2.47. Carolina is 1st at 2.43. We've given up 188 goals and Carolina has given up 185.

So not only are we competing with them for the division title, but also for the Jennings trophy.

Both teams have 6 games left, but we have the harder remaining schedule. The only playoff team left on their schedule is the Rangers, though they do have to play the Islanders once, who have been playing well. Rangers also play the Islanders and of course Carolina, but we also have Boston and Washington. It's going to be hard to pass them as long as they hold the tie-breaker. The good thing for us is that 4 of our 6 are at home and 4 of their 6 are on the road. Both teams have been better at home this year.

All this should make for a very interesting game on the 26th.
