I'd push for term with him. At 28 years old, a 4 year deal should suit him and the team well. See if they can push him down to $3m
If we are talking about Vatrano,

10 over 4 years for a team that is on the up swing.

He's gonna gauge more money elsewhere with a limited chance of winning, or decent coin on a team that is just opening the window to contention.

I'd let him walk for more than 2.5 per.

Motte wants $2M per.
I mean
The Rangers have tried to sign Strome. They haven't been able to re-sign him. The Rangers have a number and Strome wants more. Strome is the Rangers self-rental. He is signed for $4.5M. He fits their cap for this season. Strome can get a bigger contract somewhere else.
Correct. And that’s their excuse to let him walk

Chychrun at 50% is enticing. How much would that cost?

Drury has been extremely savvy... at this point he deserves our trust. He's targeted all the right players

Kakko & Lindgren for Chychrun @ 50%. Not sure id do it, but it would be a ballsy move to improve the D AND make space to retain key guys. The summer should be interesting. As has been mentioned, the playoffs will reveal a lot about where the team goes next.

I'd have reservations about trading Kakko for anything other than a forward returning our way. If Kakko works out for us, great. If management decides they want to move on, then I think he should be packaged or swapped for a forward. Chychrun would be more of a luxury than a critical piece for us. Trading away our forwards for defensive upgrades at this point I think is low return and high risk.

I’d throw in goat to reduce salary.

It would be ballsy and should get drury fired.
We know what chychrun is, he’s a top 4 d signed to a solid contract and controlled cost.
We know that Kakko has a ton of upside and was compared at times to hossa.
While yes I get the mystery box analogy sometimes you ride the sunk cost until you know what you’re getting out of it.

Goodrow has done EVERYTHING asked of him when they traded for and signed him.

He's not getting traded a year in regardless of what you may or may not think is the best path forward.

He's a guy that can legit slide up and down the line up and not hurt the team. In case of an injury, or late in a game protecting a lead, that is a HUGE player to have on your team

That’s fine, but neither is Kakko getting traded. He is also basically already a better defender than Goodrow.

And in the unlikely event that it was one of them that needed to be moved, it’s Goodrow before Kakko.

Not sure why this is so “unrealistic” as it’s been said.

I dont know but Drury would need to get creative. Im not advocating trading him, just that its probably what it would take to retain Strome & Copp.

What about convincing Trouba to waive, bumping up Schneider and Nils or Jones, and then you have room for Copp and Vatrano and Strome?

If they could convince VK to come to NY for the rest of the season and PO's, he'd add a nice dimension to our 4th line with Rooney and Goodrow,

Kreider - Zibenejad - Vatrano
Panarin - Copp - Kakko
Lafreniere - Strome - Chytil
Goodrow - Rooney - Kravtsov

that's pretty good depth
If Kravtsov plays on the 4th line, he will take the first plane out of JFK back to Russia

I stand corrected. Motte wants over $2M per.

I like Motte and would resign him in a heartbeat if the price is right and his contract fits in well with our cap situation.

That said, are we at all sure Motte wasn't brought in as a pure rental to replace Blais for the duration of our playoff run?

IF the Rangers trade Kakko (I think it would be a big if). I dont see it as being part of a package for a defenseman. I'd think it would be a hockey trade for a comparable young center like Dach. It would also likely mean that both Strome and Copp priced themselves out of re-signing the the Rangers.

I don’t think a serious Stanley Cup contender should ride sunk cost. Kakko needs to show something rest of season. JMO.

Yep, agree with this. I think you play your best players when it counts. It all has a funny way it working itself out anyhow. You’d be shocked at how drastically a human being can change when the circumstances are truly sink or swim. Time to take off the training wheels and see what’s what.

He's a first line defensive forward already.

He just needs to get the ball rolling on his offense, though without any PP time he was gonna pace for about 30 points.

I don’t know. That just seems like a really nice way of saying he’s a 3rd line player. I haven’t seen much offensive upside to his game (in contrast with Lafreniere, who I think flashes his offensive upside from time to time).

Nothing wrong with a decent 3rd line player, but he’s coming off his ELC now is all.
