Looks like Rask might be calling it a career which would give the Bruins an extra 7.5 mil to work with if i'm not mistaken. They don't have the prospects that the Rangers do, but they are gonna be big time bidders come the TDL.

Reporters need to fill space in newspapers so riffing on possible moves makes sense. Real issue was not moving up in draft to get a center like Mercer as NJ did. How can anyone be pressing the scared red panic button with the team tied for first place and a pretty deep bench of prospects. Good problem to have.

You are mistaken. Rask was UFA and then came back for around minimum

Rask has a salary of 1M.

I'm not seeing this. Did Rask say he might be done?

Nevermind - I see the Athletic had it last night.

Bergeron just got hurt and Marchand probably getting a few game suspension. Where are they going to be in two weeks? I'm not sure this is the year the Bruins look to go all in.

On the flip side, when you still have a talent like Bergeron maybe you go for it every year.

Howden is producing well in-line with 3C expectations, and still makes < $1m.

Maybe he was hated on this thread, but his depth would benefit this roster more than the 4th Drury got for him.

Reaves and a 4 for Howden and a 3rd rounder
Feel better ?

If I had to guess it's the shoulder injury he's had since the first week of the season.

He's been managing all season and it got re-aggravated to the point where he couldn't play.
I see, I wasn't even aware of that shoulder injury. If that's what the issue is, at least it's not the head, which was what I was afraid of. If it's something chronic, all the more reason imo, to go out and get a top six right wing. Unless people are content with Gauthier, or Hunt, or Goodrow, etc...With all the divisional games coming up, I'd love to see Drury pick up another goal scoring wing regardleess. Show the league we're for real this season, and especially the post season.

Yay, let’s sign another player to a long term deal at 29. This is gonna work out so well.
If I may ask, what is your solution to who plays 2C? Whether it be Strome, Miller, or another UFA, someone will have to be paid to fill in the gap.

I wouldn't be opposed to JT Miller because I doubt Van would want to retain and that would mean the end of Strome after this season which would be a big plus to the team. At the same time, it looks like he's going to be too expensive for only having another year under contract. I think the media are blowing up a scenario that is probably already dead in the water like the Chychrun situation. Drury is asking around but it doesn't seem like he's willing to make a big move.

Is it a problem we have to solve by the trade deadline? We still have Strome for now. We can try Chytil in that spot next year if nothing materializes in the summer, and then re-assess at next year's trade deadline.

Making a bad deal just because you lack better options isn't the way to build a team.

If the Rangers got Janmark and Smith that would be a nice grab for the TDL. Heck even Smith would really improve the foward group with his ability to probably play on any of the top 3 lines. Maybe see if Kessel has anything left as well. Seems like he might have a good playoff run in him.
Sucks we even have to look for a bottom pairing dman since it seems like Nemeth has been pretty bad lately. If he was even half way decent we would be ok on defense with the arrival of Schneider.

Janmark and Zibanejad have chemistry and have played together a fair amount in the past. Janmark is an underrated player. Players like him quite easily are pegged as more top 6 to 9 players, for a reason of course, but he can still play a good hockey game. Kind of comparable to Bratt and Johansson for NJ. After 60 minutes of hockey they can have matched up perfectly OK against some great hockey players. But its perhaps not players whom you feel like are custom made for top 6 roles necessarily. I like the speed Jarnmark plays with, think he would be a good add to this team.

Seravalli: Trade Deadline War Room - Metropolitan Division Objectives - Daily Faceoff

New York Rangers

Primary Objective: Top 6 right wing
Secondary Objective: Reliable checking line winger
Briefing: Here’s the imbalance on Broadway: Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider on the left side, Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko on the right side. Stanley Cup contender on the left; lottery balls on the right. Thankfully for GM Chris Drury, as he navigates his first trade deadline, his arsenal is the envy of the NHL. He has cap space, a full array of picks, and a bevy of prospects to deal. The primary target (by a long shot) is J.T. Miller, who has already played right wing in New York. Reilly Smith also played for Gerard Gallant and would be a fit with Vegas’ need to unload cap space. The Rangers have also talked about adding a responsible checking line winger (think Ryan Carpenter in Chicago) to help round out the lineup. But keep an eye on Miller, as the Rangers would like a reunion and they can afford to sign him to an extension, too.
Pieces potentially in play: 2022 1st Round Pick, Kaapo Kakko, Braden Schneider, Vitali Kravtsov, Alexandar Georgiev

America's Insider Frank Seravalli once again saying some weird shit.

Also says Skjei might be in play in Carolina, which would be .... strange.

Which would be yet another damning implication on player development.

David Quinn and the rest of the organization's player development team ruined this generation of young forwards into playing defense only and not nuturing the natural gifts that players like Lafreniere, Kakko, and Chytil have.

How much did JD have to do with player development? He deserved to be shitcanned based on how Andersson and Kravtsov were handled after being drafted, and how much did he have to do with Lafreniere and Kakko's first years in the organization? Was he the one in Quinn's ear about them playing "the right way" and stifling their offensive talent? I'm starting to think maybe Dolan made the right call after all.

I think they'll all figure it out given time, but can the Rangers as a team wait around for that to happen with the window just starting to open?

I don't think anyone can point at absolute rules or that its theoretically even possible to "prove" something on this topic. I.e. its simply not possible to run an experiment were you let a kid play his D+1 year in the AHL and then his D+1 year in Europe and compare the outcome.

But having watched Europeans in Europe and then NA for 30 years, I have to say that someone that thinks its a good idea to bring over a teenager from Europe to the AHL must be seeing something I can't see because an -- overwhelming -- amount of circumstantial evidence exists indicating that its a terrible idea. In plain English, if you take 20 kids that stayed longer in Europe and 20 kids that went to the AHL as teenagers, 95% of the first mentioned category developed better than expected and 95% of the later category developed worse than expected.

I called out JD when we hired him and for a while -- as I am sure some remember -- because he is the exact type who never would object against a notion that you should rush over kids to the AHL when they were 18. You need to have your ear to the ground and really be on top of things. Not rely on how things were done in the 70s.

I was iffy when he mentioned Ryan Carpenter, then the wheels fell off completely when he said Kakko & Schneider are in play.
