Is it a problem we have to solve by the trade deadline? We still have Strome for now. We can try Chytil in that spot next year if nothing materializes in the summer, and then re-assess at next year's trade deadline.

Making a bad deal just because you lack better options isn't the way to build a team.
Not at all. I'd wait until the summer to weigh all options. See who makes it to UFA. Different players may be available for trade. It is an issue that does need to be resolved by opening night of 2022, though.

I can't believe that people are advocating for Chytil whom has looked like a lost puppy this year and increasing his role on a team entering a new contender window.

Janmark and Zibanejad have chemistry and have played together a fair amount in the past. Janmark is an underrated player. Players like him quite easily are pegged as more top 6 to 9 players, for a reason of course, but he can still play a good hockey game. Kind of comparable to Bratt and Johansson for NJ. After 60 minutes of hockey they can have matched up perfectly OK against some great hockey players. But its perhaps not players whom you feel like are custom made for top 6 roles necessarily. I like the speed Jarnmark plays with, think he would be a good add to this team.
I've wanted him since he was on the outs in Dallas. Has played well in two deep playoff runs with Dallas and Vegas as well.

Speedy player that forechecks well that has a nose for the net. What's not to like?

Watched an interview today with a sports writer who covers the coyotes. Morgan something. He claims the ask for Kessel is a 2nd rounder and as of today no G.M. has been willing to make the offer.

Kessel and Reaves are close. They were roomies in Pitt in 2017/18. Some good video of them out there. Reaves standing behind doors scaring him and whatnot.

Kessel is a weird dude. Has the body of a beer league dad. Seems like he is always on the brunt end of his teammates jokes. Players impersonating him, etc. His off ice training or lack there of is always a topic. Not sure if that would work in Gallants world, however the guy has played like 946 consecutive games.

But...If there is one thing he can do its shoot the puck. Interesting if he could be traded for with less then the equivalent of a 2nd rounder. Maybe a Hajek and a 4th?

The intriguing part of this. Kessel as a shooter with guys like Panarin, and Fox feeding him the biscuit! Kessel scored 20 last season. This year he is playing with Travis Boyd. In addition to that, Kessel has been a pretty solid playoff performer. 96 GP, 34 G, 47 A.

Question is...At age 34 how cooked is he?

I was iffy when he mentioned Ryan Carpenter, then the wheels fell off completely when he said Kakko & Schneider as in play.

Unless they are gunning for a Lundell or Zegras, I SINCERELY doubt Kakko or Schneider is in play.

I watched him closely with Vegas. He's might be an upgrade on McKegg & that's it.

Edit, you might have been quoting someone else. Thought you were talking about Carpenter.

Seravalli: Trade Deadline War Room - Metropolitan Division Objectives - Daily Faceoff

New York Rangers

Primary Objective: Top 6 right wing
Secondary Objective: Reliable checking line winger
Briefing: Here’s the imbalance on Broadway: Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider on the left side, Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko on the right side. Stanley Cup contender on the left; lottery balls on the right. Thankfully for GM Chris Drury, as he navigates his first trade deadline, his arsenal is the envy of the NHL. He has cap space, a full array of picks, and a bevy of prospects to deal. The primary target (by a long shot) is J.T. Miller, who has already played right wing in New York. Reilly Smith also played for Gerard Gallant and would be a fit with Vegas’ need to unload cap space. The Rangers have also talked about adding a responsible checking line winger (think Ryan Carpenter in Chicago) to help round out the lineup. But keep an eye on Miller, as the Rangers would like a reunion and they can afford to sign him to an extension, too.
Pieces potentially in play: 2022 1st Round Pick, Kaapo Kakko, Braden Schneider, Vitali Kravtsov, Alexandar Georgiev

America's Insider Frank Seravalli once again saying some weird shit.

Also says Skjei might be in play in Carolina, which would be .... strange.

The Rangers can afford to sign Miller to an extension? The schools in Philadelphia must teach different math.

There are many problems with what he is saying. For a while there it seemed like the Silver Fox was the next Bobby Mac, unfortunately, I don't think we have seen Bobby Mac's replacement yet.

This is like a comically bad translation

Or wishful thinking from other GMs.
That's what I'm thinking.

I'm guessing his list of players who are in play from the Rangers is just what he's hearing from other sources as to what pieces are in demand from the Rangers and Kravtsov bc eveyone knows he's getting moved. I don't think this info is from the Rangers at all.

Have to think Schneider is untouchable at this point with how he's played, if he wasn't already.

Kakko should be very close to untouchable because not only has he played better than his numbers indicated and he's still so young with potential, but he will be very cheap on his next deal which we need. Kakko would only be moved in a deal to bring in a star player. If they weren't moving Kakko or Schneider to get an Eichel deal done, they're not going to do it to get JT Miller.

Lundkvist and Chytil should both be listed as pieces potentially in play from the Rangers.

Karlsson and Miller are practically the SAME AGE. Karlsson makes slightly more than Miller now, but is signed for 5 more years @ $5.9m. What do we think Miller is going to ask for on his next contract and what is the term? 6-7 years @ $7.5-8m? That's going to be a rough contract that starts at 31 years old.

Let's look at even strength production because a team with Kreider, Zibanejad, Panarin, Fox and Laf/Kaako is probably mainly going to need to produce at even strength and limited PP time.

Karlsson
2020-21
39 points in 56 games
54% FO
30 points at even strength
+3.1 CF% at even strength
1.0 goal per 60 at even strength
1.3 assist per 60 at even strength
0.7 primary assist per 60 at even strength

2021-22
17 points in 32 games
49.8% FO
13 points at even strength
+5.4 CF% at even strength
0.6 goal per 60 at even strength
1.0 assist per 60 at even strength
0.8 primary assist per 60 at even strength

Miller
2020-21
46 points in 53 games
53% FO
27 points at even strength
+0.5 CF% at even strength
0.8 goal per 60 at even strength
1.2 assist per 60 at even strength
0.8 primary assist per 60 at even strength

2021-22
46 points in 45 games
54.3% FO
24 points at even strength
+2.6 CF% at even strength
0.9 goal per 60 at even strength
1.1 assist per 60 at even strength
0.6 primary assist per 60 at even strength

Based on the price to acquire and contracts, I lean towards Karlsson
