Pesce is carrying him. He’s played a lot of minutes because they’ve had injuries.
Pesce is the one who has been injured. Everyone is healthy now and Skjei played 25 and 22 minutes in back to back games this week. I can't imagine they're thinking about trading him.

Given everything we know about the Rangers, why should I think that JT Miller wouldn't come back here and just be the same JT Miller he was for the Rangers?
I fully believe he would. He largely benefits from being the top offensive driving force there and having the powerplay flow through him. There are decent odds he wouldn't even be on PP1 here. If I were to bet on it I'd say he scores at his Rangers-esque 50 pts in a season pace if he were to come back. Don't want or need that. The guy isn't some great 2 way player, nor does he elevate the team around him. He doesn't encapsulate someone built to lead in the playoffs either. I'd much rather spend lesser assets on players like Lehkonen.

Trading Schneider not only makes us much worse for the future (for many reasons) but it is debateable makes us much worse in the present (with or without Miller). Its a dumb dumb move in every way you look at it.
As of now we have a tough go at it with our bottom pairing. What if Trouba or Fox is out for a bit? No Schneider to fill in.

Seravalli: Trade Deadline War Room - Metropolitan Division Objectives - Daily Faceoff

New York Rangers

Primary Objective: Top 6 right wing
Secondary Objective: Reliable checking line winger
Briefing: Here’s the imbalance on Broadway: Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider on the left side, Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko on the right side. Stanley Cup contender on the left; lottery balls on the right. Thankfully for GM Chris Drury, as he navigates his first trade deadline, his arsenal is the envy of the NHL. He has cap space, a full array of picks, and a bevy of prospects to deal. The primary target (by a long shot) is J.T. Miller, who has already played right wing in New York. Reilly Smith also played for Gerard Gallant and would be a fit with Vegas’ need to unload cap space. The Rangers have also talked about adding a responsible checking line winger (think Ryan Carpenter in Chicago) to help round out the lineup. But keep an eye on Miller, as the Rangers would like a reunion and they can afford to sign him to an extension, too.
Pieces potentially in play: 2022 1st Round Pick, Kaapo Kakko, Braden Schneider, Vitali Kravtsov, Alexandar Georgiev

America's Insider Frank Seravalli once again saying some weird shit.

Also says Skjei might be in play in Carolina, which would be .... strange.

I still don’t doubt the NYR interest in JT, but Seravelli is out to lunch thinking Kakko/Schneider are available, but not mentioning Lundkvist.

Yeah, I'm not sure I buy this thirst some of my fellow board members think NYR management has for JT, but he's a real good player these days. The COST is the issue. plus the fact that whatever we trade for him, you can basically add Ryan Strome as well. And then come the end of NEXT year we have ZERO to show for it. I certainly don't see him bringing a Cup. So it's basically, Krav, Nils, 2022 1st, and Strome for Miller for 18 months, and then ZERO, with in all likelihood no Cup to show for it.
It just seems like really bad asset management to ME.

They're not going to trade Kakko for Miller.

If they trade Kakko it would be at next year's deadline at the earliest if his current play continues.

They said that last deadline and we all know how that turned out.

So you're saying they may or may not do that again...

Except that Vegas can’t TAKE any salary back. Haha. That’s why they would be making the trade. Not for the return as much as for the cap space, no?
Send them a second and a third rounder for Smith and keep Gauthier . He is worth keeping even if we spot him as the extra forward next season at a cheap deal . Keep Reaves from playing so many games and Gauthier still has that thing called potential/speed /size ....he draws penalties...and is fast...we need fast on this team.
