I mean, if the plan is to trade for Miller and extend him to a modest 4 or 5 year deal while the team's window is open, then fine, I can roll with it if he's the guy that's the 2C for this contending window. It just means Strome walks, which I'm also fine with.

I wouldn't empty the cupboard for 18 months of Miller, is all. If the Rangers are trading their 1st and a top 5 prospect in the system, it better damn well be for more than a year and two playoff runs of that player.

I can live with Nils, Kravtsov, 1st going for an EXTENDED Miller.

If Miller is the guy to slot in behind Zibanejad, it still lends a huge hole on the roster at 2RW. Enter Brennan Othmann. He will have every opportunity to make the team out of camp next year and cement that spot opposite Panarin. Kid's got a quick release and has a little sandpaper. He's a good match with Panarin on paper.

Bring Rooney back. Chytil and Gauthier dealt for I don't know what.

Kreider-Zib-Laf
Panarin-Miller-Othmann
Barron/Trade?-Goodrow-Kakko (shutdown line)
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves/UFA/Barron/Trade

For what it’s worth my 2 cents?

I think Drury will get his man. He wants Miller

I think it’s going to take our first round pick and most likely Lundkvist and another D prospect Robertson sticks out to me.

and we won’t be done. Just don’t know what else he wants to do but you’ve got other pieces still particularly Kravtsov and even Chytil

I’m really interested in where this Drury lusting for Miller talk comes from. Is there an actual source leading back to Drury (who seems to not say Jack shit along those lines) or is it just the usual fan/media smoke bullshit?

JT Miller doesn't become current day JT Miller if not for being traded twice. If the Rangers kept him he's a different player today.

If his name was something else no one would be worried about the optics of re-aquiring him so why does it matter? Drury should be identifying who he wants and going after them based on the present day.

By the way the irony shouldn’t be lost on people that the Rangers basically gave away JT Miller a few years ago and fast forward to today where they’re about to pay out the ass to get him back

The Ranger way if I ever saw it

They'll do the same thing with Chytil.

Which would be yet another damning implication on player development.

David Quinn and the rest of the organization's player development team ruined this generation of young forwards into playing defense only and not nuturing the natural gifts that players like Lafreniere, Kakko, and Chytil have.

How much did JD have to do with player development? He deserved to be shitcanned based on how Andersson and Kravtsov were handled after being drafted, and how much did he have to do with Lafreniere and Kakko's first years in the organization? Was he the one in Quinn's ear about them playing "the right way" and stifling their offensive talent? I'm starting to think maybe Dolan made the right call after all.

I think they'll all figure it out given time, but can the Rangers as a team wait around for that to happen with the window just starting to open?

The wild card in this trade season is that Vegas may not be able to wait until the last minute to make a trade because of their need to shave cap. Let’s say the Rangers move for Smith or Karlsson (highly unlikely) That takes a big potential bidder out of the running for a team like the Canucks. This situation, along with Rutherford’s propensity to act sooner that later tells me something is coming soon.

Oh baby now we're cooking. I agree with everything you said here. Gorton & Davidson's best contributions to the Rangers were acquiring the stars who make up the current core of the team. As for drafting and development, putting David Quinn & Nik Bobrov in positions of power in those departments were idiotic.

Every European player the Rangers have drafted has been a disappointment, and every player they tried to develop at the NHL level stagnated. Fans were confused why Gorts/JD were shitcanned, but if you peel back the layers, the reasons become glaring the obvious. Cutting lose Fast, Staal & Hank after the bubble embarassment, to pay noted malcontents Tony D, Lemieux & Georgiev was just icing on the cake. But thats a story for another day.

Let me give you a tip; I saw Ortmeyer play in the USHL and would never have given him a chance to be an NHL player. He worked his ass off to get where he did.

You should work as hard as a poster to improve as much as he did as a player.
I remember hearing an interview with Blais were Sammy stated that when St. Louis sent him to the AHL he had a coach who said that if he wanted to be an everyday player he had to be willing to be a physical player. He listened and changed. Now he is a human canon ball.
Those are three players who forced and kept themselves in the NHL by doing whatever it took. That’s a message they can pass on to our prospects with the walk to back up the talk.

If Smith is gonna cost 1/3 of what Miller will cost give me Smith by a wide margin. Even if he is a ufa. 65 points in 84 playoff games sign me up. Miller has 44 points in almost the same number of games. Smith 5 gwg miller only 1. and Smith has more 5 on 5 points as well.

Chytil hasnt shown a fraction of what Miller did for the Rangers before the trade. JT had some growing up to do clearly but he had multiple 20 goal seasons, including a 56 point year in 2017.

Yes, of course, but JT Miller didn't get off to a fast start in his career either. I honestly think people just forget how young Chytil came into the league, and how young he still is. He strikes me as the type who will take off at some point, but it probably won't be here.

If the Rangers got Janmark and Smith that would be a nice grab for the TDL. Heck even Smith would really improve the foward group with his ability to probably play on any of the top 3 lines. Maybe see if Kessel has anything left as well. Seems like he might have a good playoff run in him.
Sucks we even have to look for a bottom pairing dman since it seems like Nemeth has been pretty bad lately. If he was even half way decent we would be ok on defense with the arrival of Schneider.
Watched an interview today with a sports writer who covers the coyotes. Morgan something. He claims the ask for Kessel is a 2nd rounder and as of today no G.M. has been willing to make the offer.

Good info thanks. I would do a third for him but I don't think we have our third this year (Reaves trade?). Only has 5 goals but does have 24 assists.

I think the style of player he is fills a need for this team and cant be discounted. He comes with some grit and wont back down. A guy who will drag his teammates into the fight in the top6 is a big need imo. Doesn't have to be JT but I think that's the type Drury will be after.

I just think it’s a complete waste.
Miller plays in all situations, but he’s not knocking anyone off the 1PP this season...
he’ll prob PK and play Rw with strome/panarin or 3C....
If we want that type of player, go get Copp instead...
Is miller an overall better player? Sure.
But 1 extra signed year before needing a new big contract at 30??? Terrible idea

Why not pursue both Miller ($$ retained) and Smith if you are the Rangers? They have the assets and the cap space.

Dolan literally ordered Drury to pursue star players when he canned Gorton. So there's that. I'm expecting this type of terrible trade partly because Drury feels the pressure to do something from above. If Drury dazzles us all with brilliance using his enormous cap advantage and trade capital to pull off a series of smart, timely moves I'll be delighted. I'm not holding my breath though.
