Just looked up The Vault episodes. One that i remember watching was the Rangers playing in an outdoor game in Las Vegas in 1991. Another one that i don't remember seeing but would love to watch was Ranger Brawls, best brawls in their history.
Wasn’t that also hosted by Fran Healy? Or was that something else?He did a show called MSG vault where they pulled some Ranger game out from the old days, some near complete games.
Most ranger fans if they follow football are also giants fans so there’s that too .
He did a show called Halls of Fame where he chatted with hall of famers in different sports. It was sponsored by Halls, the cough drops lol.Wasn’t that also hosted by Fran Healy? Or was that something else?
That’s just as good marketing as the former Rolaids Relief Award in baseball. He did a show called Halls of Fame where he chatted with hall of famers in different sports. It was sponsored by Halls, the cough drops lol.
Loved that show.Wish they still did itHe did a show called MSG vault where they pulled some Ranger game out from the old days, some near complete games.
and @Whoot Whoot it depends which era; Bob Page did it from 1988-1998. He was the Caucasian guy with black hair who was very sarcastic and had the voice that sounded like he was narrating Larry Brooks's articles. He was a Detroit guy who went back after Dolan dismissed him for being too opinionated and sarcastic and did college football and local sports talk and now is retired in Florida. He's on X a lot and still occasionally podcasts. He's still very opinionated and sarcastic. Very surprised he hasn't chimed in on Al yet.Probably Bill Daughtery.
Bob Page was the best on Sportsdesk and would tell it like it is. Then MSG sanitized itself with simple propaganda.
I watched a game from 2001 a few years ago, and a young Al Trautwig and an old Stan Fischler. Man, that brings back memories. RIP Al!
Eh it's not really right to joke about in my opinion. Look, I very much dislike Stan Fischler for many reasons both as a fan in the late 80s/early 90s and when I applied for an internship with him in the early 2000s and he was very crabby on the phone to a young kid who just wanted to get into hockey, but let him enjoy the later years and tweet. He doesn't even live in the NY area anymore. And that prick Fischler's still alive. Doesn't that suck?
That just mean us fans are also getting older. It's a shame how MSG didn't give him a sendoff when he was let go or did he retire due to illness? MSG better do it right. Maybe top 10 on Air videos of Al during the pregame would be a nice start.RIP. Shame to think all the original broadcast team old timers are all getting up there.
Interesting tidbit. Dude had a house!

Al was a Rangers fan.Real bummer to hear this news earlier. Al was one of the pillars of a lot of our youths along with Sam/JD/Bruce Beck/Bob Page and for you older fans you might remember Mike Quick and Mike Crispino pre his Devils days. He had this humor about him that always made you laugh and feel welcome. When he was on national broadcasts, it was very similar to seeing Kevin Burkhart when he left the Mets like "our dude made it!"
When the NHL came back in 2005 and he would eventually host Hockey Night in NY, my friends and I would always order pizza or Chinese when it was on Thursday-Saturday Nights, get a few beers, and tune in for what we ended up referring to as "Al's doofey party" because he'd always have guests and the conversations were fun.
I met him very briefly in 2009 before game 3 of the Rangers-Capitals Series and some fans asked him to sign a puck to which he said "I'll sign it as Ovechkin so it goes up in value."
He was a funny dude for all the right reasons and represented everything right and good about the cable era of NY sports (like 1980-2015ish before NY hit the famine).
It was a bummer how things ended at MSG. That's Dolan. Since he was an Islanders fan growing up and still rooted for them throughout his entire life, I hope they do something tomorrow pregame and Sam gives him a shoutout on March 22nd.
While it looks like his book won't be finished, I hope they can take parts of it and his memorabilia to come out with something for the fans.
