The media is such a wart. Panthers sign an undrafted OHL goalie that is like #6 on an NHL team depth chart and these scumbags are saying "oooo? fueling panthers trade speculations?" that a team picked up a completely free asset that has a 5% chance of being an NHLer. All this frenzy over nothing. Dragging hard working posters on our board into the mud and shit on the mainboards.

My sense is that the Rangers may or may not do something at the deadline.

This feels like a much larger deal than just Miller from Van. Miller & Garland? Add Smith in Vegas and a couple of other pieces and there could be quite the turnover.
Honestly, I kinda got the same vibe while listening to that. Like it’s more than just JT Miller. I don’t think it would be Garland. I just looked at their d core and it’s brutal so I doubt they’re looking at any of Vancouver’s d.

Goes to show you never know how it'll translate.

He had good anticipation and could read the plays well all through juniors. Plenty of creativity, good vision, and I would say a deceptively good shot, too. It's still there, but he's talking a backseat too often and getting too comfortable doing it.

Scouting reports talked about his skating and never-quit work ethic, but I don't see either of those things standing out at the NHL level, and both are important up against NHL-level defensive pressure players with next-level ability to read the play.

Even if his skating is just average, the work ethic will get you through a lot. He needs to get his ass in gear (like he was doing in short bursts) and gain some confidence.

Ortmeyer was hired in June 2017. It's not like he has a decade of no results under his belt. Most of the players drafted since he's been with the organization are 22 years old or less or much less.

Draft picks that have played in the NHL since 2017?

Andersson
Chytil
Barron
Kravtsov
Miller
Lundkvist
Keane
Jones
Kakko
Lafreniere
Schneider

5 of them have played over a hundred NHL games. What's your metric?

most of those players were not properly developed though... Also how much of player developing do they do with prospects that are playing in Europe or Juniors or college?

Nah, they just look at some of their old videos when they weren't playing in man's league and reminisce

Looks like a totally different player.
I know it's such a dead horse but we need to fire entire player development team (Jed Ortmeyer Tanner Glass and Co) into the sun. These kids are being trained to play the most vanilla, low risk, replacement level hockey INSTEAD of their brands of hockey that got them drafted here. 2 of our top picks got bullied out of North America, Kravtsov even said he will play AHL hockey for a different org just not the Rangers. Slats was right in cleaning house but we need to complete the overhaul and get a new player development department. Something in this org stinks more than the public knows. Playing vanilla replacement level hockey worked for Tanner Glass and Jed Ortmeyer but it's not the right approach for high end raw talent!

Ugh the ask right now (on good authority)from the Canucks is Braden Schneider. They had him as a top 10 pick in the 2020 draft so I’m not surprised.

going to be quite the sell job to walk down to Lundkvist from Schneider

They can ask all they want. Doesn’t mean they will get. Plus who else is offering a prospect of that quality?

Can always walk away from the deal

If we wanted Miller we could have kept him. But we decided to Trade him before he broke out. If we do the same thing with Schneider I'm getting a mental breakdown.

yes, try hiring people that can develop your prospects into productive players.
 Some of you are so dense. Maybe, just maybe not every prospect pans out. Maybe some of the failure belongs to the kids themselves. And maybe it was just bad scouting and drafting the wrong kid. So many variables to this. But sure lets make no moves and hold onto every prospect we have until they ALL turn the corner and become quality NHLers. Because that happens for every other organization right?

I’m just telling you how highly they think of him and they have from draft day. That’s who they want for Miller. They also believe Miller is their best player. Something they’ve said publicly this year and internally it’s the same feeling. It’s not going to be easy to get them off Schneider. They have no pressure to trade him this deadline if ever.

I'm resigned to Schneider+Laf+1st, because Drury.

It should be no more than Kravtsov+ ONE OF Chytil/1st/Lundkvist, but it won't be. It'll be a huge overpay, Miller will suck, the players we trade will break out, and we'll just sit here as our championship window gets even farther away as we continue to burn resources.

Then the Rangers will look elsewhere. I have no problem with it personally.

I raid Vegas for Janmark and Smith and add a bottom pairing LHD like De Haan, Kulak, or Sekera and call it a day.

Save the big trade for the summer.
