Brooks believes Lundkvist's value will drop to zero if Drury doesn't move him.

I don't think Lundkvist has done anything to drop his value. He was our top prospect in a highly thought of group of prospects going into this season. He's 21 years old, adjusting to a smaller rink while being paired with our worst defenseman. I can't see his value dropping like that.

What I like about JT Miller is he can be Stromes replacement after this year. We make one run at it this year with Zib/Strome/JTM down the middle and then JTM moves up to the 2C (or stays there). He has one year left after this, so his cap hit is a known entity and can be worked around. We might have an internal guy grow into 3C by next year as well (Chytil/Gaut), and it gives us an extra year to move Trouba/Kreider.

This is all pretty moot if we think Strome would come in at the same cap hit, but if not, JTM's 5.25 is pretty in line with a good 2c these days.

Not saying anything about Karlsson, but your post made me check in on Brett Howden, and to my enormous surprise, he's having a really good season--across the board. His scoring totals are a bit inflated with a high shooting percentage, but even if it came down, his rates would be pretty consistent with his time here. But his playing driving numbers are absurdly better--going from one of the worst in the league to very good.

Always worth keeping in mind when we think about our players individually or those on other teams--fit, role, usage, teammates, systems, etc. are huge factors for anybody. We all should've known this by now after the Trouba-Pionk swap, but we keep seeing it over and over.

Why do forward kids feel so squeezed by the Rangers? Now we have Howden as an example, a kid who didn't look like he enjoyed life much with the Rangers blossoming in a new environment. Suddenly he looks healthy and alive, while people complain about Laf and Kakko lacking balls and looking like there is no oxygen in the room - like Howden did before them.

Rangers add JT Miller and resign Strome - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
I don't think it's realistic that Kakko gets an offer sheet, and the roster I'm suggesting actually has 1 full less McKegg than our current roster and still has $1M in cap space. All 4 lines are as good or improved on what we have this year and the only loss on D is Nemeth, who hasn't been good anyway. If the question is "does this fit under the cap" the answer is yes.

That roster doesn't work. It has exactly 20 players on it, 12 forwards, 6 defense, 2 goalies. No extras at all? You are short two salaries! And Kakko at only $2.3, keep dreaming.

This is fantasy. It will not happen, it will not work, and on top of all that it's assuming JT Miller at 50% which also is not going to fly for a Vancouver team with cap issues itself and wants a haul for Miller even without retention. I'm not paying an inflated price for Miller just to have them keep 50% of the cap charge.

This is a day dream, time to move on.

Its because it isn't the player, its the team. And honestly, I think a lot of people are going to have career years/career resurgence in Vegas. It is probably the best city to play in.

Just more JT Miller smoke. But fair point. I doubt he’s just pulling it out of his ass though.

I also happen to agree with him which is an unpopular opinion around these parts.

I'm fine with moving Lundkvist for a forward with term, I just probably happen to disagree on which would be acceptable.

And he actually played well while he was here. His metrics show it.

Don't pay attention to the delusion that is trying to diminish his value.

If he has no value then hold onto him and he'll win a spot at some point and then his value will skyrocket again.

Especially with Kakko who seems really quiet and lacking in confidence both on and off the ice.

Kakko really needs to mature mentally as much as he does physically, he needs to start playing with confidence and purpose and trying to dictate things instead of acting like a scared teenager who is over his head. He has the size and skill to be better than he is right now in the NHL, his biggest shortcoming thus far IMO has been his confidence.

King Hank said it took him three years to feel like a New Yorker. Three years. And that's an extraverted Swede who thrives in social settings with the limelight on him. Kakko needs time to grow and that's alright. But people are children and cannot wait they want everything now, now, now.

Also I don't think Kakko or Laf are in a position to dictate anything. They adapt to what Panarin et al do and that's that. Once they are the big boys who drive their own lines they can dictate. That's the way of the Rangers.

Is Miller actually better than Strome? Isn't paying an asset haul, and then letting Strome walk, basically wasting assets for no upgrade or minimal upgrade? All you get out of that transaction is a loss of your top tradable assets and 1 extra year of whatever the difference is between Strome and Miller, at which time Miller will want a big raise that you just told Strome you couldn't afford to hand out.

You need a long term player, or a player who you will feel comfortable committing to as an upgrade over Strome. Miller is neither. He's a rental with an extra 12 months on his contract. He's not a long term piece, he's not a core component, he's not an upgrade to our top 6, that's just an extended rental.

And the way of the Bruins. And the Capitals. And the Lightning. And the Islanders. And the Devils. And the Oilers. And the Avalanche. And the Predators. And the Hurricanes. etc.

I am on board with trading Lundkvist but lmao at that Miller trade.

Trade McDonagh & Miller for Howden, Lundkvist, Hajek & Namestnikov
Trade Namestnikov for a 4th rd pick
Trade Howden for a 4th rd pick
Trade Buchnevich for Blais & a 2nd rd pick
Trade Lundkvist & Chytil to get Miller back

Absolutely ridiculous lmao

Yeah those trades are awful, but if we can get JT Miller back for Nils & Fils, you can't turn that down. No f***ing way the Canucks make that trade, however.

The Hockey Writers make claim that the Rangers have shown interest in Detroit's Troy Stecher, Nick Leddy, and Vlad Namestikov. Idk how reputable the source, but none of these names appear to make much sense from a Rangers perspective, imo...although I've always liked Nick Leddy. Veteran puck mover, can play special teams, responsible in his own zone. Reminds me of Tomas Kaberle.
The Hockey Writers is very erratic depending on the writer but I could definitely see interest in Leddy and modest interest in the others. Modest like 4th-5th round/marginal prospect interest. Leddy will be moved somewhere.

It’s really going to depend how he finishes this year in the A( if still NYR property) and next season..
I don’t think he played bad on the rangers, but he certainly was overwhelmed at times in the physicality department and looked a bit gun shy offensively...
It’s a real tough spot for him currently, because for at least another year, maybe two he’s 4 th on the RD depth chart.
Not really in a position to showcase his talents, at least at the nhl level.
Hopefully he and Robertson get the brunt of 1st pair minutes in Hartford together.
If he’s not here at the TDL, I’d wager he’s prob gone in an offseason deal tbh.
I’ve been saying for a while now, neither Schneider or nils we’re going to spend the better part of 2 years in the AHL...

In all seriousness, the Rangers dropped another ball there by not bringing a Finnish player to help Kakko acclimate. TBH I'd still do it because Kakko still doesn't look too comfortable around teammates.

P.S. How many Hockey Gods are out there?

tough to call... it’s not like having shesty/Geo/panarin (Buch for a bit)helped the kravtsov situation....
Another Finn might be what he needs, or some older vet to really take him under their wing. He’s so tentative and cautious it’s frustrating.
The good think at least in his overall play he’s getting better and more accretive, but it’s just taking a longer time for his offense/production..
Who knows, maybe the injury was around longer/affecting him more then we all thought??
Just what I see, he still plays like a kid amongst men, hopefully 1 day it clicks for him and he realizes he’s a man too and he stops overthinking/ being so tentative
