I know people said getting Hughes/Kakko would make them more likely to have interest in Panarin but with Adam Fox reported to have interest in coming here would he do the same?
I don’t want Panarin but trying to say he wouldnt wanna come here is a weakkkkkkkk argument.

If we want him, we’ll get him.

We are trashing many teams for just having no bottom and sucking year in and year out.

But a team I have to admit that I am really impressed with is Arizona. They are probably missing the POs by a point or two again this season, but they have had no goaltending it seems like, AND they are what 6m under the cap and has like what 15m in LTIR contracts they have taken on.

I just love like their line-up last night:
Panik-Stepan-Keller
Grabner-Richardson-Hinostroza
Crouse-Dvorak-Archbald
Galchenyuk-Cousins-Garland

And then a fairly big and strong blueline that isn't without talent.

Talent and speed all through the line-up. Only one forward bigger than 6'1.

Their GM has been ridiculed and trashed pretty much, but overall I think he certainly has been able to put together a roster with very effective players.

I think they potentially could become pretty scary if they had the resources to use their cap space for a few addition and if they got goaltending all season.
Calgary Flames have had a 21 point improvement over last season....anything is possible . I think we can be much better in 2 years time . Kids just need a year or so to season....not all will be ready next season....some will even need an extra year . A bit more muscle on a few next season could also pay dividends as will a full season of ADA and Lemieux and our much improved Buchnevich . Add a spot or two of some character and battle hard every night . When the time is right.....add the extra sauce to the roster . No sense having it cooked too far ahead .

I think Adam Fox is significantly better than Neil Pionk however he’s not Better than DeAngelo. If you can get him for a third round pick or for free next summer by all means it’s great but he’s not as good as people think imo. He just doesn’t skate well for his size at all.

Oh don't you worry about that as this organization has made it quite clear on how above all else, they value high character guys.

Why would he want to come to a team that has virtually no chance of being competitive for the next several years? Unless you are prepared to massively overpay him. In which case, sure, if you want him (willing to pay exuberant price), you will get him. But at 7 years @$11m, he will have many offers from teams that are in much better position than the Rangers are right now.

I could have also used the word seasoned veteran instead of character guys . Either way will work I think but still would prefer them to be able to keep up versus another 4th line . Having a designated goon like McLeod defintely not the answer .

Is that pick a 1st rounder?
No. Because the two of them combined aren't getting a 1st in a million years, let alone as part of a package that includes a prospect already.

It would likely be Vesey+Pionk for Fox+3rd or 4th. Addition of Vesey might even get them a 2nd if their GM is bad.

Fox would be a sick add. But he is playing next year in college, right? Or if he could go to NY, is there a shot at him leaving early with plans to go back for his degree?

The Fox situation also create even more of a noteworthy situation at RD. Another small PMD RD. We have three already, and Nils Lundkvist not being extremely far away. Sure a couple of years, but then he should start to knock on the door.

Calgary surely dealt Fox as damaged gods and Carolina surely acquired him in that capacity. Carolina can never get market value for him. From my POV, with a Pionk for Fox deal we would be giving up way to much. Pionk is improving his overall game slowly but surely just looking at this year, and that Hajak-Pionk pairing looked promising. Staal always referred to much to Pionk. He needs to move the puck faster, he is hugging it a little bit to much instead of getting the puck to the forwards before the defense can set up. Fix that, and have him pick his spot better for using the stickhandling and skating skills he undoubtedly has, and he is a solid looking young D in this league. That holds some value, he can log minutes, many are looking for warm bodies at RD.

Shatty has produced lately, but seriously, are we icing a right side on defense of TDA, Fox and Shatty next season? TDA should get more PP time, Fox must get some. Shatty without offensive minutes won’t get 20 pts, he would totally become unloveable. Can Gorton trade Shatty at the draft?

Play Staal as the only real vet on defense.
Staal-TDA
Skjei-Fox
Hajak-Pionk

Then keep Smith, who probably is unmoveable around as a 7th D/13th forward. Our blueline has been healthy this season, normally you miss more man hours. Smith can fill in as both a LD and RD, and he hasn’t been totally offside as a 4th lineer doing some PKing.

I am starting to like the outlook of that blueline. It’s unpredictable. It plays with speed. That unpredictability shouldn’t be underated. Just sets forecheckers of balance, it disturbs teams setting up defensively. You don’t know what you will get. I once played a Swedish U16 National team with my U18 team. It was so annoying, every time you went after a D it turned out to be a D who had amazing talent and could pull off whatever stickhandling move, 2 years is a lot at that age and we were so much better on many levels but still lost, just couldn’t get a grip of them. I’ve noticed that phenomena several times afterwards, PMDs has a bigger impact than making that pass that leads to a goal or whatever. Teams without them just get contained, they face confident defenders knowing what they will get. Teams that OTOH have blueline a with a lot of puckmoving ability rarely ends up in those situations where it feels like they could play for hours without scoring. Even in the situation we are now it’s showing a lot IMO, thx to TDA, Shatty and Pionk. We are never really contained, we create some chances.

K’Andree replaces Staal down the line. I could live with that:
K’Andree-TDA
Skjei-Fox
Hajak-Pionk

With inside pressure from Lundkvist, Rykov, Reunanen and co. Also likes the age on that blueline, slightly older than our new forward core.

We might have a Panarin in our system already or nab one in the draft this year or next...that would be much better option for us for 77 Million and the timing would also suit much better . In a perfect World....Kravstov scores 35 next season for us . Chytil takes a huge step....and Buchnevich improves even more and Lias pots 15 . LOL....OK...one can dream ....:D:popcorn:

There's no certainty that Fox is NHL ready right now.

Also, Bob noted that he'd have to sign with Carolina prior to a trade in order to burn an ELC year.

Unsigned college players don't have much value. Vesey is a legitimate 3rd line player in his mid-20s and Pionk is a 2nd pairing D, at worst a 3rd pairing D, in his mid-20s.

Fox has less value than Pionk.
Pionk is really bad and vesey is worth at most a 3rd round pick. Id trade both in a instant for Fox

I am also not against keeping Smith for another season and somebody might even give us something for him at the deadline . He can skate...is versatile and can also fight when needed . He just takes so darn many stupid penalties though....I think he is a perfect 4th liner and he will also be playing for a new deal ...so never know ...he could be the real deal LOL....hungry vet . One year won't kill us .
