There is a Geico commercial. Cave men with modern clothes were shown doing every day mundane tasks. "So easy, a caveman could do it" was the message. Managing a rebuild is just like that. Acquiring more draft picks and trading away veteran players that aren't part of the solution is more good than bad. Zibandjad is the only player that shouldn't be dealt. He's more part of the solution moving forward than not. That's it.

So easy, a caveman could do it.

This part is easy. Now comes the hard part—evaluating talent.

There was a commercial where an old lady is wondering where the beef is. There is no beef. That's what signing Panarin would be, because he's a slight build. He's not beefy. Lacks beef. He wouldn't be able to live up to his contract and we'd be left wondering where in fact the beef is.

Smart lady, that "Where's the Beef Lady" is.

As I've said, I go back and forth on wanting him.

However, 10-11m is fine. It's exactly what we signed Gaborik for.
For me it doesn't, it changes is if it's miraculously 9 or lower and not for 7 years. If they won the lottery for Hughes then things make a lot more sense.

Is it really? Hmm maybe since I don't recall many I hadn't realized it was legal. If that's the case, then sure try to get it done!

We aren't signing him for a discount. 10-11m isn't what it was 10 or even 5 years ago. As I said, that's basically the Gaborik contract. For an 80-85 point player, it's fair market.

I don't think it's ever been done in this situation, but I don't see why it wouldn't be legal, and Lebrun says it is, so...

I know people said getting Hughes/Kakko would make them more likely to have interest in Panarin but with Adam Fox reported to have interest in coming here would he do the same?

That price doesn't make sense for us. I only think Gorton would be involved is if it is on our terms. A la Shattenkirk.

Probably. Getting an elite PPQB prospect would signal that we are all in for next season

Which was why I was surprised to begin with. The Rangers shouldn't have to give up too much in this scenario providing we are his top choice.

It seems like we're his top choice. Are we his only choice, like Tim Erixon? Makes a big difference.

Exactly and I wouldn't;t give as much for Fox now like we did for Erixon. Different circumstances for our team as well, as that time we really didn't have anything on the way with Mcdonagh having just graduated, Sjkei not drafted yet etc.
