Regarding JT Miller, I remember getting roasted on here for suggesting that he simply didn’t want to play in NY. I don’t recall a player looking so miserable in a NYR sweater, until Kakko showed up, but I digress.

Does JT even want to come back here?

I don't think JT hated playing in NY.

I think JT hated playing for AV. In fact wasnt the word that he may have enjoyed what NY had to offer a bit too much?

Where would JTM play? On Panarins RW? or do we slot Strome on RW? That line would be a disaster defensively.

Does it give the Rangers some negotiation power with Strome?

It's so bad that we moved him for Hajek and Names and now we're probably going to give up a kings ransom for him.

Chytil and Nils/Kravtsov for JTM at 50%? I don't even know what he'd be worth.. He's essentially a 2 year rental

Honestly I'd give him a shot at C with Laf on the LW.

Try to get 3 legit lines going.
meh... we haven't even had 1 line consistently going all year.

If we could have 2 consistent offensive attacking lines, we'd be a contender.

That third line will never get the ice time JT is getting right now. JT is scoring like he is because he’s playing a lot. That won’t happen here.

Outside of maybe 15-20 league superstars, points = opportunity.

I always thought there was something weird about him being included in that deal. It didnt make much sense to me. Whether it was JT wanting out, or if there was something else going on with him in the room or off ice... Maybe Edge has some insight

Miller was what 24 when they traded him to TB? A center who had 40 points in 63 games, on the upswing of his career. They also knew Hayes would likely not be extended the following year going into free agency - so you were going to lose two centers - something they still haven't recovered from.

Unless Drury was against the move at the time and it was all Gorts getting burned by Stevie Y, I dont see a reunion between the two

Give Gorton his babies. 2nd and Hajek.

Lekhonen is a really strong player. Would be a nice add especially before people start bidding up the price tag

I've mentioned Gauthier + 3rd in the past. Lehkonen is an interesting case because he will need a new contract at years end. I love him as along term piece here too

Giroux is interesting for a couple of reasons:

1) He has a NMC so that will more than likely rule out a few teams who MAY have interest
2) His cap hit is HUGE, so this will also dwindle the market of teams even remotely possible
3) He mainly plays RW now

I was suggesting we get him from Arizona after Florida trades him there.

Lundell and a small add for Chychrun.

Hey Arizona, want to accelerate your rebuild? How about 3 pieces instead of 1? Kravtsov, Nils, First.
I know what you said, but I think you’re misunderstanding that Florida simply isn’t moving Lundell. It took absolute teeth pulling to get Vegas to move Peyton Krebs for Jack Eichel, and Florida is not going to move a much better player than Krebs for a player that’s not as good as Eichel. I’m a huge Chychrun fan too.

Florida is in the prime of their contention window and are getting absurd value from a player with multiple years left on his ELC. They can make a Chychrun trade using other assets because they have an incredibly talented team and some very good prospects. It just doesn’t make any sense for them from both a business and a hockey perspective.

Plus, the theoretical proposal is just quality for quantity. That pick will most likely not turn into any significant asset, and neither Kravtsov or Nils are going to be better players than Lundell. If Arizona wants to accelerate a rebuild, they’d simply keep the better player and build around them.

I do think it is important to find a way to get a 3rd line going offensively. Having 3-line scoring depth in 2014 was hugely important.

It was, but that was partially because we had a bunch of 1B players out there and no real star power. No top PP either.

In 2014 our leading scorer had 59 points. That team only survived on well balanced scoring.

He's a cranky guy. He doesn't outwardly look or seem that he's enjoying his time in Vancouver either.

I’m okay with it because he’s still strong on the draw even if he doesn’t play center a ton. He could go RW on the Zib or Bread line and bring a lot of punch and veteran savvy as a rental. We are one of few teams that can take on the cap hit, etc. He can take key draws though which is nice.

How much would Lekhonen and Yamamoto cost?

I've been saying for a while Chytil & Geo for Yamamoto & Skinner/Kosk whatever gets it done faster. I'd prefer Skinner in hopes that he can surpass Huska/Wall on the depth chart and replace Kinkaid as backup next season.

Leko would be a great add but I feel like Gorts might try to get Drury to overpay. I wonder if Jarnkrok could be a cheaper similar option. But if Leko is say 3rd/4th & a prospect like Gettinger then I would be all for that

Would Blais still be an RFA in the summer of 2023 if we gave him a cheap 1 year post injury bridge contract to keep the price down?

We've been winning without much at 5v5. With every line of consistent scoring, we get that much better.

Zibs and Strome lines have not been good enough 5v5. Whether its system issues or personnel. Having our top6 get on track is top priority

I am not super hot on going after a bigger priced rental, but if you are, I think he is the guy that makes the most sense.

What do people think the cost would be?

I think the Rangers have to put Miller in the deal to get Chychrun. I'm personally not opposed to that. If they did agree to move Miller, the add probably wouldn't be two additional high value pieces. I don't think Nils+Kravtsov+1st gets it done.
I'm not hot on Kessel. At this point in his career, he's a playmaker, not a shooter. Ther Rangers really don't need that. And the prices he will command (at least a #2) can be better spent elsewhere. Someone will eventually trade for Kessel (Pittsburgh or Minnesota)

If Miller is the cost for Chychrun I'm not opposed as long as the rest of the add is minimal (ie a second).

Then other seconds and thirds and Hajeks and Gauthiers for Lekkonen types and call it a wrap.

Are you hearing anything about this?

Miller, Krav and a 1st gives me some pause but I probably do it provided the plan is to slide Jones into that 3rd pair with Schneider next year. Maybe look for a rental like Gavrikov?
