Some of you folks are torturing yourselves thinking that there’s any chance that we can get Lundell from Florida. Just let it go

I was suggesting we get him from Arizona after Florida trades him there.

Lundell and a small add for Chychrun.

Hey Arizona, want to accelerate your rebuild? How about 3 pieces instead of 1? Kravtsov, Nils, First.

It's much more than just the kids. It's easily to point them out because that's the only time we see them and we internally want them to be studs... He finishes the chances he gets. He's not creating... NO ONE is creating. Especially in Laffy's case.... he needs an extended look in the top6. It cannot be any worse than it's been over the first half of the season ( speakin of 5v5 play )

The entire team is a disaster 5v5. I can't objectively judge the kids when superstar all world talents, like Panarin, have been struggling 5v5.

Exactly.

I will go so far as to say the only thing this team is doing right now that's not an absolute trainwreck is getting pucks on net for Kreider to tip in.

Sure, Zibanejad and Panarin are still scoring here and there and Fox is all-world, but you expect those things because they are super stars. A true contending team gets more from elsewhere. Hell, a regular playoff team gets more from elsewhere.

The Rangers are getting nothing from nobody except that Kreider is scoring a goal a game right now.

Good for him, it's not to discount it, but it is to say, that's the only thing they are doing well right now. That, power play, and goaltending. They enter the zone and they start looking for shots through that he can tip in. It's their entire offensive scheme when he's on the ice.

From the beginning of the year I was happy to reach 2nd rd. But we legitimately have 6 all star players this season..Fox, Bread.Igor.Trouba.Kreider.Mika................so the urge to go for it is not too wrong.

Trouba is definitely not an All Star.

Quite honestly, it just sounds like Chris Drury is doing his job and checking in on the available rentals and then offering everyone some combination of Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Jones, 1st, and 2nd because they're gone by the summer anyway then all the insidurrs are interpreting that as Drury hot for action. If he's the stale bread no nonsense GM people say he is, his "here's my offer, take it or leave it" approach would give the appearance that he's serious and horny compared to other GMs that will do a lot of foreplay without ever offering a package and then go into a bidding war toward the deadline.

That package could bring back a stud young forward.

Just keep it on ice for now.

Almost every true contender is up against the cap. Teams will need to send money out or have money retained in order to make big additions. The Rangers don't need either.

I ask this, what teams can fit Giroux at the deadline? He has an $8.275m cap hit.

Same thinking for Kessel. $6.8m cap hit.

Same thing with Domi @ $5.3m.

Also Debrusk.

Let's look at the deadline cap space as it stands now for some of he contenders
[TBODY]
Tampa Bay$0

Edmonton$2.663m

Dallas$1.143m

Washington$2.074m

Pittsburgh$4m

Carolina$1.8m

Florida$1.623m

Toronto$0.928m

St Louis$0.318m

Colorado$0.76m

Calgary$5.56m

New York Rangers $33.78m
[/TBODY]
This is what I am talking about. So many of these teams who could be interested in the higher cap hit guys will need to send money back. How attractive will that be for those teams trading those players away? So not only will sellers need to find teams interested, they will need to create a market and be concerned with taking money back or retaining as needed to make it work.

This SHOULD be where the Rangers can step in as an attractive destination for some of these higher cap hit guys at lower costs than usual.

That is, unless some of the teams that are completely out of it step in to facilitate as 3rd parties and things get complicated quickly.

This is a big deal for me. There does not need to be any retention on a rental. Now, if there is a pursuit of a non-rental, this team will need retention based on next year's cap structure. Some of these other teams may have expiring deals that give them extra cash for next year.

Being in the rental market isn't bad. This team needs a boost to do something this year. This franchise is getting world class goaltending, has a strong top 4 defense with a Norris trophy winner, elite PP and PK, with big high end forwards.

The teams above may make a move to add a piece, but how impactful can they get, especially in division. Pittsburgh is the one team that can really make a splash, but have one of the weaker farm systems.

How far off is this team if a top 6 winger and 3C is added? Moving Chytil to 3RW at that point.

Kreider-Zibanejad-T6 Winger
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-3C-Chytil
Goodrow-Rooney-Reaves/Hunt/Gauthier

I think either Chytil needs to be on the wing or off the roster for them to do something in the playoffs. At center, I don't see a player that will help in a playoff series. Dallas needs to fall off. Pavelski is the perfect player for this team.

If the following trade was on the table, would you, do it?

Arz sends Chychrun to Florida for Lundell and then Arz flips Lundell to the Rangers for Miller?

I'm not crazy about given up Miller but for Lundell--2C solved.

Without a second of hesistation, yes. I would even add. Want a first round pick? Done.

Miller is good but he's getting slightly overrated simply because he's on the roster. Jones, Lundkvist, and Schneider, and possibly Robertson, all remain positive top 4 projections, if not more, themselves.

I have lots of faith that Lundell is eventually 1C capable. Maybe not as an 80 point dynamo but when you give him wings like Panarin, Kakko, and Lafreniere?

The Rangers should accept salary in exchange for picks. Whatever they do, they are not going to eat up all $33m of their own cap space.

Take on salary for Western Conference teams in exchange for picks and assets.

Or they haven't gone beyond VK+1.

I don't think that going beyond that is the hold up, but they can sit back and watch this play out and decide whether or not they want to get back in when its go time.

This is how I feel about it too.

I doubt we would have seen multiple outlets report their interest as significant and aggressive and even list pieces they were offering to them being completely out of it in a matter of days.

The more likely scenario is we made an offer and told the Coyotes that was our best offer and Drury is taking a back seat to see where things stand as other teams get more serious.

We have the chips to beat most packages if we want to, (exception being Florida giving Lundell) we can make that determination when the time comes.

Give Gorton his babies. 2nd and Hajek.

Lekhonen is a really strong player. Would be a nice add especially before people start bidding up the price tag

He plays a similar style to Fast. As long as you don't overpay him, the team can create a good mix of swiss-army knife type players that can allow you to have a more balanced lineup. You would have Lehknonen, Goodrow, presumably Barron and Rooney all in your bottom 6 which is a strong group.

Daddy cringe back at work

Lehkonen would make a nice 3RW.

Gavrikov would be a great target. Columbus is enough of a question mark now that you may be able to shake a player like that loose. Still seems unlikely. Giordano has to be available with the season Seattle has had. Take Blackwell back while you’re at it (half joking!).

Giroux and Pavelski would be huge veteran additions at center that would make me say, okay, we may actually be a contender this year. We have the cap space. The question is more about giving up the assets for pure rentals when it may be premature. Then again, Giroux and Giordano won’t be available as rentals again next year. It’s a tough decision because I can imagine:

Kreider - Zib - Laf
Panarin - Giroux/Pavelski - Strome
Barron/Blais - Goodrow - Kakko
Hunt - Rooney - Reaves
Lindgren - Fox
Giordano - Trouba
Miller - Schneider
Shesty

Chytil, Lundkvist, Jones, Kravtsov, 1st, 2nd, Gauthier out?
