I think that would be what the team would prefer.

But Kreider is going to be the more moveable of the 2 after this year is out.
I just cant see them moving Kreider. For what he's brought @ $6.5. I'm sure it'd be much easier to trade Kreider given his performance and lower cap hit

Trouba has been solid. He's still no where near an $8M player. I do not care what people say.

Being pragmatic, we need to keep the players earning their cap hit... and move on from ones over paid.

If Laf is going to remain on the third line for the foreseeable future, how much impact will he actually have? We’re all, or mostly all, complaining about his lack of impact.

If there’s no plan to move Kreider or Panarin, or to have Laf switch positions, it is absolutely reasonable to table offers for other prospects who fill a position of need.

Is this ideal? Hell no. I want stud Laf in this team’s top 6 forever. But there seem to be many obstacles to that end state.

I’ve seen some glimpses out of Lafreniere the last few games. In particular some of that playmaking ability that was so highly touted. To your point though, I have no clue how to get this guy more ice time if he doesn’t switch sides. Panarin and Kreider aren’t going anywhere for several years, and there seems to be no motivation (justifiably) to switch them to the other side given how well both play on the left.

I am pretty curious about trying Laf out at Center as well given his playmaking skills and vision on the ice, and his high compete level. I am sort of surprised it’s not something he would actively want to try. Not saying it would work, just seems like his game on paper would be a fit.

I'm going to get jumped on for this but I don't think its implausible that Kreider gets moved this summer.

That would 100% be a Gorts move. Trade at his high point, not sure if Drury has that same mentality, but completely agree that he should be moved in the off season to clear space for the future.

Yeah but you need to find a dance partner for that.

Won't have trouble finding one for Kreider after a 40+ goal year.
Two dance partners, given the NMC. Very unlikely for either Trouba or Kreider to get moved.

Possibly less unlikely for Kreider, but how many cities would he waive for, that also have the cap space?

I'm certainly not on the trade CK bandwagon, but I can understand it. But if this guy goes 45+25, there would certainly be a market of teams willing to fit $6.5 for goal scoring like that.

The whole LW thing is so easy to solve. I have never seen an organization/fanbase be so dead set on positions. It's like not even possible to suggest someone can learn a different side. MacKinnon is hurt. What does Colorado do? They play Rantanen as C. Tampa moves Stamkos around between LW and C. Flyers move Giroux around between W and C. Ducks move Getzlaf between W and C. The Canucks shift around Pettersson/Boeser. Draisaitl flips between W and C.

Yet somehow it is absolutely impossible for Kreider, or Panrain, or Lafreniere to play a different position?

I mean. Yeah. But what if the Habs, for whatever reason, prefer Laf to Wright/Savoie? Or Bedard next year (unlikely). This whole LW and being buried on the depth chart thing doesn’t seem to be going away…
If these guys are as good as they are/project, playing on the off wing isn’t an issue.

And despite Kreiders play this year, at some point he’s probably going to be moved for money reasons.

But then the question is, how do you replace that 45 goals with the same amount of money? You really can't. He'd have insane value at his current AAV.

Kakko and Laf being this bad is already a huge black eye. I'd be happy for them if they took off elsewhere, proof that we didn't make the wrong choice
Literally nothing is worse than trading a 1OA because he’s not great in his D+2 year and then having him take off somewhere else. The choices for both were extremely obvious and any team in the league would have made the same ones. The issue is we don’t seem great at developing high end forwards and we need to solve that rather than keep putting it off because you can’t get the depth you need to win cups when every productive forward is being paid top dollar

I'm going to get jumped on for this but I don't think its implausible that Kreider gets moved this summer.

We bitched for years about not having late round picks or forwards put up 60+ pts. We finally got one in Buch so we trade him.

Then we get another one of our picks finally break out into the player we wanted for years so we trade him?

This team is horrible 5 on 5. Goaltending and the PP is our saving grace and now we do something to weaken it?

You don't need to replace 45 goals again because his expectation is to score about 25 not 45.
If you think the Rangers would be anywhere near where they are now if Kreider was on a 25 goal pace this season, I think you need some more coffee this morning lol

If I'm Laf I'm begging Gallant to play me at RW, I mean if it's that much of an issue he shouldn't have been #1 overall and everybody I mean everybody got it wrong. I'm a big believer in him that he will be a big time player but he's so humble, he needs to see this RW hole as an opportunity and grab it. Make management feel that he is worth holding on to. Otherwise have fun playing in a blackhole like Vancouver or Arizona. I'd much rather play my offside for a winner than play my strong side for a perennial loser.

i think uncle Larry bringing him up in trade rumors is a shot across the bow for him to try and light a fire under his ass to produce...
wouldn’t be surprised to see kakkos name in the gossip section closer to the TDL for the same reason.... and he needs a new contract

No shot. Trouba and his 8M would be first given Fox and now the emergence of Schneider.

100 times out of 100.

And I've loved Trouba's play this year but he's by far the more replaceable right now.

I'd rather trade neither right now, to be honest. Even if there was a fair offer on the table. Those are both core guys on this roster right now.

i would have to agree.... I’m certainly not counting on this type of season for Kreids next year. but he should be around his normal 30 or so goals/ 50-55 pts.
That’s not bad production when you factor in everything else at 6.5 a year.

the emergence of Schneider also helps with the loss of trouba.
This is my biggest disagreement with our guys that mainly watch the wolf pack.
They all said, Schneider isn’t ready, could use a whole AHL year, etc
Some guys just rise to the occasion when given the chance...
I’m confident Barron is another one..
Sometimes leaving them down there too long is counter productive. You have to have the carrot and the stick.
If the plan is to keep them down there for 2-3 years straight with no playing time/limited playing time on the big club, you run the risk of them getting a bit stale.
Not every player is going to/ or has to put up a PPG in Hartford or lead the team in every category before they should get some NHL action.
In Barron’s case especially. The kid has been playing well down there for the better part of 2 years....
Finally cause of covid/injuries he gets some ice.. in his case it’s been long overdue imo.
He has been absolutely solid with NYR. He should be getting more ice time imo.

it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Robertson has an excellent camp and does a similar thing Schneider is doing by the start of next season as well...
Hopefully Berard/Othmann/Cuylle can be on a similar timeline to Schneider....

Kreider and Trouba are both immensely valuable to the roster right now, there's no doubt. I personally don't want to trade either and I expect NYR brass feel similarly.

That said the cap is going to be extremely tight the next few offseasons with the money they have committed. And there are quite a few players due raises plus a need to continue to upgrade in certain areas.

At some point tough decisions are going to have to be made, there's no way around it. Captain obvious here, I know.

Trouba is not replaceable at all yet. No way Schneider is ready to rake his minutes AND cover up for Millers repeated defenseive mistakes.

Yes Schneider looks good in his first couple of games. Lets see how he does after a longer stint. After all Miller looked like a world beater after 10.

trouba is well respected in the locker room, a leader and is helping miller along nicely.

unfortunately Kreider is not replaceable yet either until Laf or Kakko steps up.
