Less than two years ago, Gorton made this statement when the Rangers signed Shattenkirk to the 4 year contract.

Shattenkirk goes to Rangers as free agency starts

Gorton is giving a max 7 year contract worth upwards of $77M for a free agent? I want to see it.

We don’t know where the cap is going. The NHL and the PA are having CBA negotiations right now. They have been meeting for a while trying to avoid another lockout in two years.

Escrow is a major issue for the players. They could agree to changes in the escrow system for a flat cap. Don’t use the inflator. The cap is the cap. The players won’t lose a % of their salaries because of escrow.

No escrow for flat cap.

Both sides have an opt out in September 2020. They want to get something done this summer.

The escalator exacerbates escrow, it doesn’t cause it.

Does anyone else get the idea that the Rangers are quietly planting ideas in Henrik's head that might cause him to rethink gutting it out through the rebuild?

I think that idea was presented last season when Gorton approached Henrik about waiving his NMC. He followed that up by trading Nash, Grabner, McDonagh, and Miller before moving Hayes and Zucc this deadline.

I think Gorton was very clear to Hank about what was going to happen here.

Did anyone catch the Dave Maloney and Kenny Albert interview with Jeff Gorton on Wednesday night between first and second period?

Maloney sent out a tweet before the game and I listened to it. I have tried to find a clip on post here but they didn’t post it anywhere.

It was a good listen. A good % of the 17 minute intermission.

Gorton was asked about the status of the rebuild. Gorton said the plan is for the Rangers to be a good team for a every long time. Not one of these teams which is good for a few years and then has to retool again. The Rangers have traded away so many good players and people but it was necessary. He mentioned a few of them.

Gorton likes Chytil at center. He has more room to skate and create.

They like Georgiev’s progress. Gorton said now is the right age for Shestyorkin to come over to the NHL. Same age as when Hank came to New York. The Rangers will see how much of an adjustment Shestyorkin has to make to playing in North America. He didn’t say anything about trading Georgiev. They didn’t ask him.

He was asked about the three first round picks from last June. They want Kravstov here for next season. They really like the progress made by Miller at Wisconsin. Gorton compared Lundkvist to Stralman. They hope Miller and Lundkvist can be a top pairing for the Rangers in the future.

Maloney asked about free agency. Gorton said the Rangers are looking for veteran character players to help the young players play the right way.

Everything was about the long term. Be patient with this player and that player. Waiting for the young players to develop. He didn’t sound like someone eager to accelerate the rebuild with a huge free agent signing. Time will tell.

I'm still several pages behind this thread but in case it hasn't been posted. . If you do find it please share.

Telling him what was going to happen and then experiencing it are two different things.

Totally agree. Look, I’m fully committed to the rebuild. I’m fully committed to being patient, but as of right now I’m not too optimistic with those 3. Howden hit the rookie wall and still hasn’t gotten up. He doesn’t have an elite skill set with a high ceiling so I assume he’ll end up being a 2/3 C, Lias hasn’t shown anything at all. Chytil has been the biggest disappointment of the 3 imo. He has the highest ceiling and best skill set. Literally his season highlights can be broken down over a one week period where he scored a few coast to coast goals. Other than that, he’s been a weak perimeter player. He needs to bulk up, grow into his body, and practice his puck handling.

I am trying to stay patient. We basically have no choice. But it's very tough seeing these 3 make virtually no impactful contribution on the ice night after night.

All this talk of need for elite talent, and it's true, but at this point, Ill just take a little validation that these young guys are on their way to being full time NHL'ers. Baby steps.

Calgary and San Jose are two I can think of. But it's possible the stronger option might be retirement and a return to Sweden.

Who’s doing San Jose the favor of taking that Jones contract? I don’t see how there’s any way they can bring in Hank, keep Karlsson, and re-sign their main guys.

I don't see elite contribution from any of those three guys. Do I think they are going to be excellent support players when all is said and done? Yes, I do.

Kravtsov was only the start of the wave of potential prospects with elite potential. The Rangers should grab another one this year. Looking like a top 5 pick. The Rangers haven't drafted top 5 in 20 years. This year and next are the years to get your building block, elite prospects. Don't f*** it up, Gorts. No pressure.

I continue to believe that the odds of Lundqvist retiring are greater than the odds of Lundqvist waiving his NMC and being traded.
This.

It was reported at least one team inquired about the King at the deadline (going off memory, may have been more- pretty sure that team name was never mentioned). I don't think anyone formally asked Hank if he would waive his clause, but I would bet $1 to the thought there was a "ya still sure" informal question posed to him...

No one thinks Hank will sign a 2 year deal to be a 1A/1B type goalie situation at a small chance to get one last shot at the playoffs?

21-22/22-23 could be PO years.

It's possible, but I think it would be surprising.

I just get the feeling that when that time comes, for everyone involved, it might be best to turn the page.

And hockey sense.

Chytil has 20 plus pts as a 19 year old that played out of position (and yes gorton is right exactly for the reasons he stated Chytil is a center)

That’s hardly no progress. He’s struggled for sure but almost everyone has at this point.

Howden and Lias should have spent the entire year in Hartford imo. Howden earned his spot so I get why he was here but when he really started falling off he should have been sent down and that’s before the injury.

Pionk should have never been playing the mins he’s played. I don’t think he should have been in the nhl at all.

So overall not crazy the way we’ve handled our really young guys. But guys like Mika buchy DeAngelo Strome even Skjei imo those 22 to 25 year old guys have really thrived and or shown much improvement under Quinn.

Kravtsov will be on this team next year. Hajek as well. Maybe our top pick that’s to be determined. And our kids will be a year older. I think I’ve seen enough from Howden and Chytil that tells me they’re going to be a lot better next season

It was Columbus and got a snap-no.

Thinking Lundqvist will retire early is super-wishful thinking. He was not a soft negotiator on his deal and that was for a reason. 5.5M in real money in his last year is way too much to walk from.

Fox continues to show me he can’t skate for shit. No size either still just as small as he’s been for the last two years

He’s more Pionk than he is DeAngelo for me. Like I said I’d take him for free but he wouldn’t play 20 mins a night for my team

The wildcard with this rebuild is all the other picks we have acquired and the hope that maybe a couple of those pan out. Where would Boston be without Pastranak, Tampa without point? It's too early to judge the rebuild until we see some of these guys progress. Morgan Barron for one has really looked better than a late pick.

The owner JG's boss, did say it. So, if he tells JG to be in on Panarin, to give the Rangers a legit young superstar to build around, sell tickets, and generate excitement for an otherwise grim looking upcoming season, you think Gorton is going to tell Dolan no?

What did Dolan say? And since when does he make personnel decisions? Gorton isn't taking his cues from Dolan. Gorton makes the personnel decisions and Dolan signs off on them, not the other way around.

I was talking about that a couple days ago..

It might be more realistic than we think.. This year or the next
