There's a difference between doing that and having fun when you do the offer sheet and then saying that they were absolutely just offer sheeting him out of spite. They tried to trade for him and when they couldn't trade for him they offer sheeted him. Then when they offer sheeted him they added the funny part into the contract. You're reading too much into that though. It's widely reported they tried to trade for him prior to the offer sheet and they were rebuffed. Yes don't just give away a 1st and 3rd I'm an offer sheet compensation to troll another team and make Twitter memes...
I'm not sayin that they didn't want the player. But most teams don't go offersheet a team's player after trade talks fall through. And they certainly don't do it and then troll and entire fanbase about it. And they don't completely overpay a player what he is absolutely not worth unless theres something added there. If you don't think "payback" was on Tom Dundon's mind you're sorely mistaken.

He's produced at a 55 to 60 point pace in the past two seasons. Not sure where you're getting that from.

Andrew Copp Stats | Hockey-Reference.com

Doubt he's getting 18-20 minutes a night here.

He's probably replacing Strome at ES, but I wouldn't put him on this teams 1st PP unit.

In fact as early as next year, I'm stapling Lafreniere to tjat unit with or without Strome here.

Let someone else pay Copp 6x6

I mean they didnt overpay for the player long term, they overpaid one year to get control of the player. If they intended to overpay him long term it would have been more than a 1 year deal.

Usually teams would offersheet a player and then try to work out a trade in the trade window when they felt they were in control of the situation after the offer sheet. This was different. If they legit engaged in trade talks than the value of the one year on the offer sheet was PURPOSEFULLY high so the habs wouldnt match it. That is why it was one year. They didnt piss away a 1st and 3rd to just troll the habs/ Come on, you're smarter than that...

On October 4, 2021 I was led to believe Tinordi would never clear waivers so to say I’m shocked right now is an understatement. A small victory has occurred here today.
So you're telling me a guy with over 400 career AHL games cleared waivers?
