It's not that it's impossible, but three of the guys on this list are going to get raises as they were on medium term deals that are now up and are seen as 'team friendly' right now in Kadri, Strome and Trochek. That skews the list a bit.

What's is important to understand is the Rangers don't have someone like this they can sign for just money more than likely. Look at the UFA list, it's not a great list in the salary range we are discussing. The next option is to trade for someone and while that's an option, the guys who produce at this range have a high value to their teams for good reason, which means the cost will be high to acquire them in terms of assets.

The UFA list is fine. Stastny, Getzlaf, Namestnikov, Cousins, Stepan, Rodrigues, Gaudette, Brassard, Bozak, D. Strome (trade), Domi, are all viable options not to mention the internal ones such as Chytil who has already produced there and Barron. Do these guys look great? No. Neither did a bunch of the other guys before too. Some are old. Some are slow. That's fine. That's part of the reason they come cheap. I'd rather chance one of those guys and assume they will be able to handle the role for cheap and spend my money elsewhere than spend 5-6M on a 2C when we need the money.

This is a false narrative. It's has been widely reported that the canes tried to trade for him before they offer sheeted him. If this was about retribution than why did they tried to trade for him?

I would like to know when the initial overture to acquire KK was extended?

A few days before the OS? or weeks/months

if it's a few days, the Canes had every intention of OS'ing the player.

they probably tried trading for him and offered less than the offer sheet obligations ( or similar )

It would have been easier to extend him and/or he'd have a better cap hit.

but I fully believe they did it in spite

With how shy he is I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing through it and was just scared to say anything about feeling hurt lol

A ton of guys "play through" injuries because of that warrior shtick that goes around. If you aren't playing with a broken leg or a jaw then you are a soccer player.

Much like post covid Ziba, McD's broken foot, Jagr's labrum some guys rather deal with the criticism of "poor play" vs not toughing it out.

Yes....but spite what the major factor in why it was done. Right down to the signing bonus and the tweets that followed from the Canes themselves.
You don’t sign players out of spite. Spite is a nice bonus. Canes tried trading for him first, then they did the offer sheet.

So am I reading this right that Gallant would rather go 11 and 7 then play Barron potentially?

what are we doing here Gerard?
I’d argue this says more about Barron than Gallant. Barron needs a change of scene. He’s probably trade fodder at this point.

No where did it say we were giving up all of those pieces in ONE SINGLE package. Those names were being discussed. Big difference.

I didn't say it was all of those pieces in one single package.

Nonetheless Vince says a lot of "ands." Obviously it was some sort of package involving some combination of some of those pieces.

That's why I said "pick 3-4 of those pieces," and it beats Vegas's offer.

If that's the case then I have to suggest it might be the coach who needs a change of scenery.

It's his mother f***ing job to get these kids going.

What do people think of a possible Goodrow/Kakko combination on the third line when Kakko gets back. Chytil's time is running out and Goodrow is really the only other center that can cycle and consistently puck hounds like Chytil, who is the center Kakko has worked best with in the past. You can kind of recreate a lesser skilled version of the Kreider/Chytil/Kakko line that worked well last season. Put a Hunt or Goat or Barron on the left side and it could work. If it works you can trade Chytil or give him one last shot on the top six to raise his value or see if he can stick.

I agree, it would give them a glut on the left side and some time to see it play out. For all we know, they bring Chychrun in and he flops and he is the one they let walk in 3 years...
I’d like to think that there’s a list or a whiteboard of players for each position that the Rangers covet most. If chynchrun is say #3 on that list, then management has write a plan/ equation to get it done. So my guess is that the way to solidify the left defense is this type of defenseman.
The supposed list for #2 center may also be a longer list. Chances are extremely high that none of the contestants for #2 center are available currently. Thus fox a weakness when you can.
I’m also guessing/hoping that a right wing becomes available before the deadline to fill another weakness. Time will tell. I hope drury explains it if they succeed in trading for chynchrun.

Since people are so adamant about not having Kreider on the third line despite the fact that most of his production is on the PP, which he'd keep, then the lines should look like this:

Panarin - Zibanejad - Kreider
Lafreniere - Strome - Kakko
Chytil - Goodrow - Gauthier

I think that leaves the third line a little lacking in firepower, which is why I'd put Kreider there and move Chytil up to where he could actually play with some offensive drivers which would maybe spark him, but it's verboten to suggest moving Kreider to a spot where everyone would thrive if it somehow diminishes his prestige, apparently.

Btw you can clearly mark me down as someone that doesn’t particularly want JT Miller

I’ve seen this show before, and I’m good. Especially for the cost, Canucks fans seem to be under the impression they’d get someone like Schneider++ for Miller

no thanks

It pains me to say but i am quickly losing faith in Kakko/Chytil. Between injuries and ineffectiveness, its hard to see the upside hitting. And while they are still young and have time, the contract situations for both is going to complicate things.
Different timelines imo. Chytil I’m losing faith in, Kakko I’m not

is Gallant just telling Drury to go after guys that he had in Vegas? This guys’ stats look like nothing special, unless he’s great defensively which I haven’t looked at yet

You shouldn't but they did. They paid him way more than he was worth and then went on a troll fest afterwards. It was a huge part of it. That's not something that's new for that franchise either, their owner is incredibly spiteful.

And this, frankly, is the time to test new things. We're 'in' the playoffs by a 16 point margin. Jones and Barron should each get longer looks. Can always put Nemeth and McKegg back in the playoffs if the kids are shitting the bed.
Not to mention resting guys every once in a while.
