I actually think Lundkvist has been pretty good recently.
Hajek has proven to be a competent 3rd pairing d-man. He has been much more decisive and is using his skating to make plays which is great to see. If he can become even a 3rd pairing d-man that's a nice surprise. This is another example of a player just taking some time to make the jump to the NHL.
In saying all of that, Chytil, to me, is not a NHL center. His game needs to be simplified and he needs to play wing. Goodrow is MUCH better at center and this team needs a 3C. Seems like a natural fit there.
We have that player. Goodrow.
Or am I reading a different website with pages upon threads of multitudes of OP's mentioning Larkin, Horvat, and Karlsson because Strome is a black hole in the 2 zones facing his ass.
And disappears every playoff series we've played since we acquired him.
Per cap friendly, the Rangers have ~$28m in cap space at the deadline. It's not an either/or thing.
Yeah, and it looks like he is going to continue to improve. Keep him or trade him, we SHOULD be getting value out of the kid. Can't f this one up.I actually think Lundkvist has been pretty good recently.
Chytil has the size, the skill, and the skating ability. He's just not reading the play well on a consistent basis and not getting to the right spots. He's like Gauthier in that you'll get these flashes, but it's just inconsistent. For a while, he was looking good with Gauthier and Laf, but he just had zero luck/finish.
He has played over 200 games but is only 22, so I'm still pulling for him, but you have to wonder if Drury sees the clock ticking on his potential and may value him as a trade chip.
Given our lack of centers and question marks around signing Strome, I have to think the organization would prefer to keep him, but to say this season has been disappointing for him thus far would be an understatement. I was hoping he would at least end up in the 30-40 point range. The underlying numbers last year seemed to suggest that he would be getting closer to a breakout, but instead, he seems to have regressed.
His face-off numbers have improved, though still below 50%. Corsi is just about bang-on 50%. He is also getting more offensive zone starts. PDO is a bit below 100. On paper, he should be producing more than he is.
On the other side, he has fewer hits, fewer blocked shots, and fewer takeaways. He is getting some PP time, but as he's on the second unit, it's usually when GG sends them out to finish up the last of it.
Chytil and the organization both need to decide which type of player he's going to be. If they want him to be an all-situations center, they need to do the same as they did with Kevin Hayes--drive that home, growing pains and all. He needs to become a bit more of a puck hound, use his reach, his size, and his skating ability, and he needs to still improve on his face-offs. He was touted as having a 2-way game in his draft year. We need to see that develop at the NHL level.
If they want him to be more of an offensive threat, they need to make some changes ,too. Either way, he doesn't have the same ability as Mika or Artemi for reading the play. If he's going to be an offensive player, he needs to use his size and speed and get in and win battles. He said his idol was Jagr, but he doesn't play that type of game.
So that was our game plan all along, Turk is a maestro.
Well I obviously stand corrected on the cap space issue but I still think it is a pointless and unrealistic move. If EDM wants to move him it will likely just be in a trade for anything they're acquiring and not giving away picks for no reason. Most of the teams that are sellers can afford the cap hit or they can retain some. That would also not be a good trade for the Rangers to make now as it would reduce their deadline cap space whereas Edmonton would want to make it now to increase their cap space later so the incentives don't align. I don't think they want to trade him now anyway. They need him.
This is a terrible idea. Koskinen is horrible, worse than Georgiev for certain. I’m not downgrading in goal to do Edmonton a favor.I'm not sure many selling teams will be jumping at the opportunity to add Koskinen, the Oilers ran in to that this past offseason. If you watch the Dave Tippett presser from last night it's clear they have lost all confidence in Koskinen and with Smith out injured, again, they need cap space to address that concern quickly. They are sinking. Even if the Rangers were to make this move, hell they could expand it to be Georgiev for Koskinen + and roll with Kinkaid and Koskinen as 2/3 goalies it would address their needs. The time is now to jump on that opportunity.
Would claim Rask.
Not to mention on an expiring contract. We lack depth to make it in a seven-game series. Here is free depth.Interesting thought, I wonder if he would be worth it. He's at least better than McKegg.
Would claim Rask.
I think at this point we all need to realize that Strome will be resigned and just hope its for 4 years at around 5 to 5.5. That takes him to the end of Panarin's deal and would be a reasonable cap hit to manage.
Getting past that, they need to upgrade the 3rd line center position, and while Goodrow can do it, he looks a lot better on RW. Since Strome is likely to re-up, the smart thing for the Rangers to do is spend their excess assets (Chytil, Goat, Krav, Nemeth, Georgiev, a d prospect, a pick) to get a team to eat half of a salary. People mention Gourde and Karlsson cause they are both a great fit to replace Chytil this season. Z-Strome-Goude/Karlsson-Rooney is a much better center group. If they dont move Kreider to the right, then it, also, give Laf a much better center to play with on the 3rd line.
I imagine Goat will be moved. So will Chytil. Also, I have always supported making the trades sooner rather than later. Chemistry is a thing and giving the team more time to gel before playoffs is the smarter approach.

Your point makes dispassionate sense but hockey is not a dispassionate sport. At best Gallant would be looked at as overcoaching, fixing something that isn't broken, etc.The reason would be that you suspect even better performance from everyone else with the line changes.
Does Rask stink that bad ?
On waivers but makes 4 mil
