So you intend to keep on trading players until you get the first overall pick. And then intend to pray that it is not one of the many busts that are drafted at the top. And if it is, then you continue to trade players each year until you do finally hit on one.

Sounds like a very sound strategy. Could be waiting a long time.

ZBad and Kreider do not qualify?

If zibanejad and Kreider are carrying this team you think they’re legitimate cup contenders?

He did have an interesting tidbit regarding Kreider a few pages back. If things going according to plan on draft day, he mentioned that he’s heard that there’s a pretty good chance they re-sign Kreider and present him with the captaincy. It seemed to get glossed over by everyone.

I did read that but there was no explicit mention of UFA plans, I saw Simmonds in a potential line up and that was it — so are we getting Simmonds? Not too thrilled about that. I know I wouldn’t get a straight forward answer to jeopardize his connections, just thought I’d shout it out though.

Stralman is 32 and on a decline. Hard pass.
We're talking about a stop gap who can play fundamentally sound hockey. Not a long term option

I haven't seen a decline in his play. He is what he is. It's ok to have 30 years olds on a team. We're not icing a team of teenagers.

He'll 35-36 next time we are competitive. All he's doing is taking away a spot from a young player.
We don't have any RHD that he'd be blocking. He'd be replacing Shattenkirk; I really dont like Shattenkirk and assuming he's gone

I’d really like to sign Brian Boyle to a short term deal. He’s an effective depth forward and a leader wherever he goes. That and his size would be a nice addition. I’ve mentioned a single year deal for bigger money than he can get elsewhere. 1 year @$3.5m. The team isn’t competing next year but he’s be a good guy to have around the team and a nice rental piece at the deadline.

IF the Rangers trade Namestnikov, I’d take a single year flyer on Colin Wilson too.

Don’t look now, but Zibanejad has become a legitimate 1st line center who holds his own against any center in the league. The only reason his point total isn’t higher is because he had Fast and Namestnikov attached to each asscheek for a month.

And Kreider is the best netfront player in the league and one of the best drivers of possession in the league.

In answer to your question, show me the talent that surrounds them, and you’ll have your answer. If Kravtsov becomes a quality 1st line player, Chytil becomes a strong top six player, the next two drafts add the missing pieces in the top six and on defense, Zibanejad and Kreider won’t be the ones carrying this team to a Cup. But they'll both be major contributors.

The Rangers have 19 games remaining. 8 home/11 road. It will be 6 home/11 road after their next two games against Montreal & Washington.

Seven out of their next nine games starting on Tuesday are on the road.

The teams behind them in the standings are terrible.

Ottawa traded their entire team. Good for Colorado. The Kings have been brutal all year. The Ducks are pathetic. So bad. The Red Wings are competitive in games but they always lose. The Devils haven't had Hall in their lineup since December. He might not play again this season. You never know if Hall will ever play another game for the Devils. He will be a free agent in 2020. They might trade him if he doesn't sign an extension this summer. They have so many other injuries. Their goaltending was awful with Kinkaid. Schneider has played well since returning from his rehab stint. Edmonton is also awful. Another lost season for them.

The Rangers have a tough schedule but those above mentioned teams aren't passing the Rangers in the standings.

Seventh is the earliest possible pick for the Rangers heading into the lottery.

Gorton says the only way this whole thing is going to work is by drafting well. They also need to draft elite difference making talent. That is the only way this whole thing is going to work.
That schedule says to me, forget the tank.

No way. We have a number of young, cheap, competent options for bottom six. Boyle has never been more than a great 4th line player. You get a player like him for an impending Cup push. You do not overpay to bump decent depth just to have a stopgap. Let the old players move on.
