There's a trade to be had with Calgary, if we're looking for a dman. btw where the **** did this Giordano come from? 35 years old and peaking
Giordano and my wife's Nephew , Ric Jackman, played together in 2007 on a Team Canada Spengler Cup winner one year . So...12 years ago he was not in the NHL .

If Adam Fox can't supplant Pionk, he belongs in the AHL. If he is worried about those seemingly insurmountable odds, he will probably wait until Seattle opens for business because everyone else has the same "logjam".... 3 right defensemen.

Or when that conversation happens, they explain that he will get every opportunity to earn a spot and he won't be denied a spot based on anything other than merit. This isn't the Carolina or Calgary defense.

Brooksie was on the Fox thing last year...

"the Blueshirts might be able to get Adam Fox, the Harvard defenseman who paired with lefty prospect Ryan Lindgren for Team USA at the past two World Junior tournaments."

In the same piece he also threw this out there...

"Gorton is believed to have talked with Edmonton, and might be willing to accept Milan Lucic and his five-year, $30 million contract commitment if Leon Draisaitl comes the other way. There is, however, zero evidence the Oilers have the slightest inclination to make a deal like that, even if it would involve, say Brady Skjei, also an impending Group II free agent."

Kakko would be amazing @ #2 however i just don't think this team has enough "suck" to select there!

Wayne Simmonds is cooked! Nice that you only gave him a 2yr deal, however i don't see him taking that little term. Likely his last contract.

The Rangers have 19 games remaining. 8 home/11 road. It will be 6 home/11 road after their next two games against Montreal & Washington.

Seven out of their next nine games starting on Tuesday are on the road.

View attachment 193269

The teams behind them in the standings are terrible.

Ottawa traded their entire team. Good for Colorado. The Kings have been brutal all year. The Ducks are pathetic. So bad. The Red Wings are competitive in games but they always lose. The Devils haven't had Hall in their lineup since December. He might not play again this season. You never know if Hall will ever play another game for the Devils. He will be a free agent in 2020. They might trade him if he doesn't sign an extension this summer. They have so many other injuries. Their goaltending was awful with Kinkaid. Schneider has played well since returning from his rehab stint. Edmonton is also awful. Another lost season for them.

The Rangers have a tough schedule but those above mentioned teams aren't passing the Rangers in the standings.

Seventh is the earliest possible pick for the Rangers heading into the lottery.

Gorton says the only way this whole thing is going to work is by drafting well. They also need to draft elite difference making talent. That is the only way this whole thing is going to work.
If this club plays like they did last night....they might grab 26 or so points out of those remaining games....or maybe more . I was going to say 30...;)

Simmonds would need a very short term and bigger money. If that’s a no go, then no way.
We get the #2 in the lottery - not by “suck merit”

Adam Fox keeps being mentioned but he's a Junior. He will not be a UFA until summer of 2020. He has to stay one more season after this at Harvard.

@BBKers would love to hear your take on free agency this year for the New York Rangers. Have you heard, in some reliable fashion, that the Rangers have a higher probability to go after one big piece during the off-season?

I understand there are a lot of moving parts (conditional picks and what numbers we draft at) which makes the roadmap for the rebuild/retool in the off-season extremely dynamic.

I don’t know if the sell off stops until we had a star player drafted. We don’t have one now. And unless we win the lottery this year we won’t have one next year either. We have drafted alto of good prospects who are projected to be really good players, but we are still missing the same thing we were missing in the last rebuild.
So you intend to keep on trading players until you get the first overall pick. And then intend to pray that it is not one of the many busts that are drafted at the top. And if it is, then you continue to trade players each year until you do finally hit on one.

Sounds like a very sound strategy. Could be waiting a long time.
Star talent. Homegrown star talent too, not the gaboriks nashs or panarins.
ZBad and Kreider do not qualify?

He did have an interesting tidbit regarding Kreider a few pages back. If things going according to plan on draft day, he mentioned that he’s heard that there’s a pretty good chance they re-sign Kreider and present him with the captaincy. It seemed to get glossed over by everyone.

You're not going to like his answer.

You've been beating this drum for a while and it isn't any more ridiculous than the first time you said it. They aren't blocking anyone. Fox can't become a UFA until August 2020. By then, all of Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk will have one year left on their contract. Any or all of them might be traded after July 1st, 2020, when their actual money owed is significantly less than their cap hits.

Worst case, they are all gone at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Do you honestly believe that Fox is going to refuse to sign with us because of them?

You think he would sign at the age of 23 without getting a hint that he can make the NHL team?

We could get Vesey and Hayes due to having openings. There is a reason for why didn’t even pass the first selections for Will Butcher.

Also, everyone — always — assumes a problem will go away. Surely Staal can be traded, surely Girardi can be traded, surely Brandon Smith can be traded and so forth and so forth. Surely Brad Richards could be traded, surely Wade Redden can be traded, surely Chris Drury can be traded. They have frontloaded deals and what not. Is paid little money.

Yet, they never are traded, never. I’ve yet to see anyone else really question if Shatty can be traded, that kind of amazes me. How can you guys be so sure that he can be traded?

Shatty was pacing what 25 pts when he didn’t get all the top PP time. TDA is pushing him right now, doing a better job offensively. Shatty isn’t getting younger. Has been injury prone.

Supposedly the cost for taking on Callahan’s last year of his contract is a 1st — but when Shatty hits the market in two years everyone will throw themselves at taking on his last year.

I’ve been wrong before and I will be wrong again, but is it really ridiculous to be fear that Shatty won’t be tradable?

He's owed 2 million real dollars at that point. Even if he can't be moved for an asset at that time, he could be moved for a different contract that is attached to a forward.

Who ever said Richards, Drury and Redden could be traded?

Smith has spent time in the AHL. He's currently playing on the 4th line. If you think he's going to somehow block a prospect like Fox, should he become available, I want what you're smoking.

Any of these players can be bought out if necessary. And Fox and his agent aren't stupid. They know the Rangers need defense. They know that Shatty, Staal and Smith aren't going to be here long. You're worried about 1 year when Fox and his agent are worrying about his entire career.

Fox isn’t signing with anyone. Finish your degree kid. Your path is lined

And for that reason, Carolina should re-up ferland. He’s a good player. Unlike Ottawa, come out with something

A lot of people, at certain stages. Stage 1 Euphoria. Stage 2 Not as good as expected, and it make no sense in trading them now since their value is at the lowest. Stage 3. We will always be able to trade them later. Stage 4.Horror.

But maybe I am just wrong on this one, and it will be easy to trade Shatty. Hope so! I don’t get how you guys can be so comfortable with it, but maybe I am missing something.

Gag- If we can trade Shatty, great. Will Adam Fox sign here if we are set at RD and got there guys who can play PP there? Nope, I can basically guarantee you that he won’t. He will have a ton of suitors and get promised everything and anything. If you can dragging with ‘it’s only for a year’ you are lost.

I'd look at Stralman next year.

Shattenkirk needs to be dumped ASAP. Whatever the return
