You're not wrong. I also think that the light returns at the deadline have to do with a strong top end of the draft this year. The first round and early 2nd round look very strong.
It's also the way the economics are working now. NHL stars are going the way of the other major sports and demanding pay days. That puts a premium on young, ELC players. The middle gets squeezed. The idea of paying a Bozak or Ladd big bucks is antiquated. They aren't bad (mid level players in general) but you can't afford to pay them what they traditionally commanded.

Hayes fits a legit need for Winnipeg and he could put them over the top. At the same time, Winnipeg needs the next wave of promising players to fill the holes from truba and Little... cheaply. They have to pay these stars while filling in internally. Lemieux was probably available because he is RFA. You will close your window by dealing cheap talent for rentals or even overpriced mid tier players.

Rough article from Brooks on Libor Hajek. Pinning him as the make or break in the Tampa trade and highlighting his struggles. Few times I've seen him he's looked good yet unspectacular. Liked his efforts in the preseason as well.

Not really shocked by the big club this year, except for the resiliency of the roster to win some close games vs good clubs. The Pack performance, however, is scary.
Larry Brooks is subhuman waste. It’s always been apparent in the past, but he’s been particularly special this year.

Personally there is just to much fight in this team for them to fall in the standings even w/out Zucc and Hayes. I still think they will wind up 8-12.

I think 7 is likely, like RB said. We're 9th right now, just need Chicago and Vancouver to pass us. They are both 1 point behind, though we have a game in hand. Chicago has been playing well, 6-4 in their last 10. Vancouver hasn't been playing as well, but both aren't that far out of a playoff spot in the west.

I have a hard time seeing any of the other 6 teams pass us though. Wherever we end up, we have to hope we win one of the top 3 picks. If not, then we have to see what we can do to trade up and get the guy we want. I doubt we'll be able to trade up into the top 2 in that case, but if there's a guy we really like in the 3-5 range, then it's possible.

I can see those clubs passing us, but my fear is Arizona and Buffalo. Yotes win 4 ina row and are only 1 pt ahead of the Rangers. I think we will catch them.

Looking at this time next year it is probably gonna be the last year of selloff. Vesey, Names,Fast, maybe Krieder and Shatt will be probably made available. Then the back filling with some Grade A Vets

What does it mean to backfil with Grade A vets?

I don’t know if the sell off stops until we had a star player drafted. We don’t have one now. And unless we win the lottery this year we won’t have one next year either. We have drafted alto of good prospects who are projected to be really good players, but we are still missing the same thing we were missing in the last rebuild. Star talent. Homegrown star talent too, not the gaboriks nashs or panarins.

I think the big sell off is done, ofcourse Shattenkirk, Smith,Staal will all be out there and Namestnicov. But unless Kreider wont sign at a reasonable amount I dont see any bigger names being moved anymore. We have 3 1st rounders between this and next with the potential of 3 more with the conditions...2 possible...3 unlikely..1 maybe...hopefully. I think by the time this draft is over we will have a good look at the future.

Adam Fox will get a degree from Harvard and decide where he wants to play. Kid is smart

Harvard’s Adam Fox has ‘true mark of a great player’ – Boston Herald
Fox grew up in Nassau County on the north shore of Long Island just 30 minutes from midtown Manhattan, which is a prime reason he has always followed the exploits of the New York Rangers.

Rumor has been for a long time that he wants to become a UDFA and sign with us, unfortunately we will probably not have a fair shot at getting him since we have an extreme vet log-jam on the blueline...

More on Fox...

After learning about other hockey players, Fox began to have an admiration towards Adam Graves.

“I grew up a huge Rangers’ fan and always saw the great things he would do off the ice as well as being a great player on the ice. My parents always told me what a great person he was.”

Rangers need to send Graves and Quinn to go see him in Harvard, similar to Vigneault and Drury going to visit Vesey.

You've been beating this drum for a while and it isn't any more ridiculous than the first time you said it. They aren't blocking anyone. Fox can't become a UFA until August 2020. By then, all of Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk will have one year left on their contract. Any or all of them might be traded after July 1st, 2020, when their actual money owed is significantly less than their cap hits.

Worst case, they are all gone at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Do you honestly believe that Fox is going to refuse to sign with us because of them?
